Yeah I miss Rik Mayall, also

Dermot Morgan (Father Ted Crilly) I still to this day cannot believe he sadly passed away 1 day after filming the last ever episode of Father Ted.

yes to all three, Rik Mayall in particular, one of the greatest ever

Philip Seymour Hoffman and Robin Williams.

I was watching A Most Wanted Man the other day and got sad that there won't be anymore PSH movies.

I often dream about where Brandon Lee would be today. I think he would be in the same kind of movies that Keanu is in (John Wick). I had to look them both up, Keanu is 50 and Brandon Lee would have been 50 today, so yeah.

Funny you mention Keanu, because I can easily see Brandon as Neo in the Matrix.

Leslie Neilson.

I even worked a quote or two from his classics into a speech I made. That stuff still is still hilarious.

Hackman is the first thing that came to mind, as far as alive-but-retired. It's still crazy to me that he retired on the piece of crap "Welcome To Mooseport" when he could have gone out on the epic high of The Royal Tenenbaums.

Though who knows probably Welcome To Mooseport had been shelved for years.

Saw this thread , 5 minutes later my wife is watching Stir Crazy. Gene Wilder and Richard Prior are 2 actors I miss. Particularly Gene Wilder.

Jim Henson

Things would be a lot different for the Jim Henson Company today if he didn't pass away. He was going to sell everything to Disney (I don't know about the Sesame Street stuff, though). That includes Muppets and Bear in the Big Blue House, Fraggle Rock, and everything else the company owned. Things fell apart after that. Disney was able to strike a deal where they distributed the three existing Muppet movies on video, as well as theatrically distributing The Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island. The deal obviously expired, as Sony distributed Muppets From Space. In 2004, Disney fully acquired rights to the Muppets and Bear in the Big Blue House, but could have had it all in the early 90's had the original deal gone through.

Fun note, the Jim Henson Company made the awesome E3 Nintendo Puppets

I was always a fan of his. I grew up watching his movies, and we were close in age. He was a good actor. I was sad when I heard he died.

Same for me. Similar age and I grew up not too far from him in TN. His life was kind of tragic. His mother introduced him to drugs and even shot him up with heroin at a young age. I believe James Franco has tattoo in memory of Renfro. I think there's an article out there somewhere about it.

Steve Buscemi is in the new Hotel Transylvania movie and is involved with two other movies that are filming right now (Oppenheimer Strategies, The Ridiculous Six). Why is he in this thread?

OP nailed who I thought of from the title - Gene Hackman, probably my favorite actor. He retired and has been having a hoot in retirement, but I dearly miss his work. The man had tremendous range and a wonderfully nuanced voice.

This thread has made me so sad. John Candy, Leonard Nemoy, Heath Ledger, Robin Williams. Dammit. :(

I think the day this man died, a part of me died with him, made my childhood better.
EDIT: Jim Varney (Ernest P Worrell) for those that don't know.

I feel no sadness for people I've never met, instead I almost feel guilty for the two names I'll even mention as dying while they still had years of good work ahead of them, because it's a selfish view to think "It's unfortunate they died, because they weren't done making things that entertain me". The two names are Heath Ledger and Bernie Mac.

Heath is obviously known mostly for Joker, but I liked him in 10 Things I Hate About You. He was a good actor.

Bernie Mac was so fucking funny. Soul Men was a fantastic film, one I need to own it instead of just seeing it on TV every now and again.

James Gandolfini. :(

He went a month after I finished The Sopranos and became a huge fan. I cried so hard and I never cry at celebrity deaths... He still had so much to give us.

Yeah he went way too soon.

This one is pretty sad too.
