Adam Boyes joins Iron Galaxy as CEO

Killer Instinct is alright.

Divekick though? That was only fun for like two minutes.

It shouldn't be that amazing. In theory, someone could make Crysis run on the handheld at 1Frame Per Second. Would you accept that?

You are comparing a game running 20+ fps on an unoptimized engine for a platform with (likely) little development time to a hypothetical game that runs at 1 FPS under the same circumstances? I'd take a 20 FPS playable version of Borderlands any day of the week...

This comparison is silly...

Great news. I hope that means Lang gets to spend more time with his kids.
I'm sure they got an internship opening for JV too.

Generally, when ports are bad, it's better to look at the publisher than at the porting company anyways. They are the ones responsible for allocating budget/time.

See also: Arkham Knight.

Being hired for an outsourced port is a pretty thankless job as far as making games goes.

Congrats, I'm curious as to what this means for Destiny and Sony partnership in the future since Adam was a big fan and probably helped push it more than it would have been otherwise.

Damn that IG pairing.

Listening to GFB radio, Lang always seemed super busy. I'm not surprised he was willing to step down. It seems like he was always struggling to find time with his family (and look for excuses to watch F1 races in person.)

Hey Boyes, you now have one job: secure the rights to Windjammers and do a remake or sequel.

On behalf of Giant Bomb and the rest of the games loving peoples of Earth,
Cheers.

(Oh and a current gen port of 3rd Strike - with NG and 2nd Impact stages added this time - would be great as well. I'm sure Capcom would listen to you, so make that your follow-up task.)

Edit: All kidding aside: I'm sure he'll be a great fit and that he will enable IG's star to rise even higher as it has been.

So can we expect good ports now?

I sincerely doubt that IG make bad ports because of lack of expertise or leadership. They get given a time, and a budget (that admittedly they were probably the lowest bidders for) and then have to do a job with those constraints. The fact that ports are being outsourced in the first place shows you how highly the publisher of that game values the platform it is ported to.

Iron Galaxy has made some questionable KI decisions but i appreciate them keeping the game alive. Its more unfortunate that Double Helix is stuck making garbage again for Amazon.

There's literally no reason CVS2, Hyper SF2, SF2HD, Darkstalkers Collection, SF Alpha Collection, and 3rd Strike (with NG & 2nd Impact content like you suggested) aren't all on current generation platforms. Those games should all just always be available on everything.

FYI, for people who don't already know, Boyes' and Lang have been best friends for line 20years. They worked together at Midway in the 90s.

For those wondering why IG of all places.
Yeah if I got to be the ceo of a company and hang out with one of my best friends all day, Id probably jump on that too.

So as minor as this is my biggest problem with KI since they took over is they made all the menus terrible.

@amboyes congrats on the new job at iron galaxy

weird...

Makes sense.

But who holds more power now, Lang or Boyes, and when's the cage match?

Also, Lang mentioned recently on the Bombcast, they they wanted to branch out a bit more into all types of indie games, so this makes even more sense.

I hope he can turn that ship around after what happened with Arkham Knight. I want to like them, they're a small studio, some of their ports are genuinely good, and KI is a very nice fighter, but after that and 7 Days to Die, they've lost my confidence as a customer.

I know how developer/publisher relations work, i've been in this industry for almost 10 years. My argument has nothing to do with that. Ultimately BL2 was playable, what he was arguing was that Crysis at 1 FPS is garbage, so naturally why should you care about BL2 which averaged between 20-25 FPS. It was a silly argument.

Now if the argument was comparable with a 20 FPS version of crysis, i am sure a lot of people would be fine with that. Just like most seemed to be with BL2 Vita.

Congrats!

If Borderlands 2 on Vita was the only version of the game in existence I would agree with you. But the mere fact that they got it running, even as shoddy as it runs, is amazing to me. I honestly can't imagine a world where Borderlands 2 runs better on Vita than it does now.

It's unfortunate they never patched it to make use of the additional memory Sony made available on Vita.

Please Mr. Boyes, give us a patch for Borderlands 2 on Vita!

They did, actually. Months later. It wasn't an incredible improvement, but an improvement, nonetheless. It's better than it was from the patch before, but there are still noticeable drops in intense areas.
