Pretty sure Gaga had a huge fight with her record company when she chose Alejandro as a single (instead of Dance In The Dark) for her second album. Also when she had to shoot her "goth" look for the album rather than what her company chose.
I think the company has a lot of control but some artists can override.
Of course these are truths we will never know.
Adele wasn't at that point until after her second album. Back in the day singles were chosen by radio stations, mainly in LA. Not even record companies. For many artists that is STILL how it's done, then they make a music video. For larger artists the record label does it, and spend tons of cash on focus groups, etc..
Only a select few artists can pick their own single.

I think that's mroe because it has almost become a meme at this point. I was aware that just calling someone fat was a bannable offense (i'm not saying Adele is fat or ugly or whatever just commenting on this one point).
I can't believe you use 'vintage' as a commendable term. Pastiche would be more appropriate.

She's overweight but she's far from ugly. She's one of the few women that can carry that kind of really well, and she does.
She also has an incredible voice and makes great (but kinda samey) music.

Yep, those big beautiful eyes of hers are the product of re-touching...in every video, in every concert...all retouched. She goes through life on a 5 second delay, right?

I do agree that I think she could be attractive if she lost the weight, as oppose to someone like Gaga who is ugly no matter how skinny she is
