After months of Amirox pulling out his hairs...

IGN has absolute physical evidence that there is NO region lockout on games.

Aside from having to know that Japanese game systems use the circle button to make menu choices instead of the westernized X (which was no longer an issue once we were in the game, as it's only global menus that have this import quirk), there was no evidence when we jumped into the game that our system was bought in Japan instead of in America.

I know for fact that when people read this thread they're still going to find a way to be uncertain about region locked games :P

What if the differences between relative humidity in the two regions cause the UMDs to malfunction?

*wrings hands*

Anyway, the folks who made the most noise about this are PSP haters, not the genuinely concerned.

Well...individual publishers can still decide to incorporate regional lockout. :P

I'll cut any publisher who does this! I'll cut them with my scathing internet anger.

Well excuse me for asking a simple, logical question.

Again, are review copies (for everything, PS2, GC, etc.) usually region locked or not?

IGN:
Importers should be aware that, as with any other game system, you should not expect import and domestic versions of games to link multiplayer together -- the systems should connect just fine, but because the US and JPN editions have a different code base because of all the language and tweaks and other edits that go on when localizing a title, the two versions are technically two different games.

No regional lockout is good news, but unfortunatly multiplayer games are not regionally compatable.

Your question isn't stupid, there's no such thing as stupid questions just stupid.. well i gotta go now.

Yeah, I have the same disc they have. I was going to write the exact same thing here, but I wasn't sure if it was indeed a retail copy or whether they were just printing the final reviewables with the disc art. Guess that answers my question.

Anyway, no region lock.

what about US PSP's playing JP games though!?

AND DONT FORGET PAL, err, oops, i mean Poland...

Two US PSP's playing Japanese software should link up, same should work with two Japanese PSP's playing US software. Or One Japanese PSP and one US PSP, both playing US or Japanese software should work as well. As long as the games are from the same region they should link up.

Ah, it doesn't really matter since they say it's a retail copy of NFSUR that they tested. We wouldn't even have this argument if JP PSP games didn't have a region 2 slapped on the back.

The difference is that the PSP is a handheld, and handhelds have traditionally been region-free. Consoles have been the exact opposite.
