AI Slop is killing our channel (Kurzgesagt)

First the internet, next our brains.

Mfks will be dumb as hell in 25 years. No critical reasoning, no reason to remember anything. You can just ask AI to do it for you.

Speaking for myself, I'm just withdrawing from the public internet more and more. I'm watching YouTube less and focusing on the channels I've been subscribed to for years only. When YouTube puts videos from new channels, I make a point to say "Not Interested". I'm also looking at news sites much less. I've been spending more time playing games, reading books, watching TV/Movies, and writing.

Protect your brains people. It's rough out there.

I stick to GAF for gaming news, YouTube subs for personal interest vids and a few messenging apps to keep in touch with friends.

No Insta, Tik Tok etc...

I swear I had this idea for months now that the whole AI thing will somewhat backfire and bring people more together down the line as people will just become sick of where this is going. I'm not joking that as time goes on I become more inclined to join in person meetings at our company due to this. Also last time I made an effort to call my friend and talk to him on his B-Day instead of messaging him.

AI is slowly ruining the internet for me. I also only watch my known channels I've been following for years and have no interest in something new because of that.

It will be interesting to see where this is going.

Yeah same, hell I've just started into Lord of the Rings, haven't read the book since I was teenager 1400yrs ago, such a bloody fantastic book and so different to the movies which the wife and I watch every year, had completely forgotten everything about it and it's fun seeing all the changes that Jackson made for the movies and then the little snippets of dialogue and Easter eggs that he kept in that nod to wider characters and events

AI will be the major catalyst for future mass layoffs and further increase the divide between the rich and the poor. IMO, more bad than good will come out of AI advancement.

We need some sort of app, or extension that blocks AI slop.

Is this irony?

I did a search to see if someone had started a Youtube extension for flagging AI videos and channels and this was one of the first links. A possible AI generated website that links to nothing.

Not sure that is safe.
A site that refuses to use HTTPS in 2025 is very suspicious.

Morality-wise, ethics-wise, this junk they misleadingly call "AI" is wrong by every metric.
Should illegalize their training data, considering that it's little more than large-scale piracy. That would bottom-out this entire thing in one fell swoop. If the companies had to put forth any actual effort, "AI" would quickly lose whatever "value" it has.

I don't know about AI, but things like google maps and even map markers in video games has done a number on a lot of peoples spatial awareness I've noticed.

The internet was made by humans to humans, not to chatbots.

AI is an internet polluting machine that can only exist thanks to all of the Internet Data and greedy billionaires who think that a super advanced text predictor can somehow replace the workforce and creativity. I've had to completely gut the use of social media, now I only use GAF and follow channels I trust.

Not only that, but when the bubble pops it will be 2008 market crash levels.

There are three possibilities moving forward:

1. A company recognizes that people don't want more AI, they want less or none of it, and they capture a large swath of internet users the same way AOL did in the mid-90s by offering an AI-free walled garden. The normal internet turns into a permanent sewer-like AI underworld full of people who don't know, care, or can afford to "upgrade" to the more human-centric internet.

2. People simply start using the internet less because it becomes so fake, so inauthentic, and so full of AI slop that even the most brain-rotted users no longer get enjoyment out of it. This is the most optimistic scenario.

3. Internet users embrace AI, or simply begrudgingly accept it, and we move into a future where almost everything we interact with online is AI-generated or enhanced and the signal of human voices is overwhelmingly drowned out by the noise of bots replying and talking to each other.

I think the future of the internet is going to be back to forums like GAF where human moderators can kill off the bots. Small to medium sized communities rather than the mega social networks.

I used to like this channel a lot, but around covid the videos got a little preachy. Best to embrace generative AI instead of trying to buck the trend.

I'm seeing this happening as well.

Porn sites are the first ones implementing AI filters because they are open-source and heavily moderated funnily enough. Most of social media is likely to die if it keeps going.
