AIAS is such trash.

I think one year they had a PC game that, while it didn't in best PC game, it won for Best game overall. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE.

Lots of nominations for Viva Pinata. It doesn't look like it'll be the winner in any of those categories, but it's nice to see a game that didn't sell a ton get nods in so many categories.

How on earth is Okami not nominated for Art Direction? Of those nominated Viva Pinata should win.

Also Zelda being nominated for Gameplay is pretty meh in my opinion, since Zelda games have had the same basic gameplay since the first one. It's a traditional game. A nomination should have been given to a game that's pushing the envelope.

Kill.Switch didn't have active reload.

I'm surprised Fight Night Round 3 didn't get more love.

Smackdown vs Raw 2006 nominated as fighting game of the year? and DOA4 isn't?

and this is a touchy one here, but Zelda: Twilight Princess for story & character development? No, just no. I'd also argue about its nomination for game play engineering. Seems like this game is only there because of the hype. You can defend the gameplay all you want, but Zelda Twilight Princess was just plain mediocre at best for story and character development.

Heh, Resistance not included in online play category. Good research guys.

(unless this is a UK event? Edit: No, I see the game elsewhere.)

I'm sorry, but perhaps there was another game that let you swing a sword, fish, shoot a bow and arrow, etc. like you would in real life that I missed. Could you please point me in that direction?

Im pretty sure it came out in 2006. 99.9% sure, at least in the U.S.

Yeah, late December in America I think and early January for Europe.

But Smackdown vs Raw 2006 came out in November 2005.

Unless it's a mistake and they mean SD vs Raw 2007...but I presume that this is a copy & paste list from the site? unless they really screwed up and made a mistake on the website.

I think that theres a high chance Gears of War will go down as the most overrated game of all time.

If Zelda, OOT didn't exist, I'd agree. That or Halo.

It's even stranger to me not to see it up for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Design...

WTF?

You've got to be effing kidding me.:lol

Gears of War gets a nod in animation and innovation, arguably its two weakest categories yet games like Okami, FFXII, Valkyrie Profile and probably many others I'm forgetting get snubbed? Come on. Hell Twilight Princess was probably more innovative than Gears was. Plus it had much better animation.

Wait... what? You may as well have given the same nomination to Red Steel. Gears deserves some friggin awards, but this isn't one of them (neither are the afformentioned categories that Systems_id listed).

Having Call of Duty nominated for Art Direction is already a joke in itself, but NOT having Okami nominated in that category makes it completely preposterous.

Also, I agree with sp0rsk : why, please tell me why Gears of War is so overrated. It can win Graphics awards hands down, but other than that, why should it be so "unique" and awesome? o_O

OOT and Halo both deserve the acclaim the got.
and gears doesn't? Just because it may not appeal to you doesn't discredit the game. Gears raised the bar in this industry on many levels and deserves it's acclaim.

Maybe I don't understand what you mean... but well, in every previous Zelda game you could do all of those things. The point of my post was that I'm not sure if Twilight Princess has done those things in a way that makes it's gameplay significantly more due of awards than the many other quality games released this year.

If you're interested in being pointed in a direction where you can swing a sword, fish and do much, much more I'd suggest Okami.

Outside of getting nominated in way too many categories, Gears actually got snubbed in one. They should have been nominated for best soundtrack. It was amazing and cinematic. Again, terrible research by AIAS, a joke.

There's something seriously wrong with these lists.

Gears deserves nominations, but not THIS many. Good grief. They should have gone all out and nominated it for family GOTY.

Of course, Viva should win something.

well, technically, that little countdown was a countdown until he hit the "submit reply" button, so it was accurate for him too.

Same deal.

You didn't say it loud or obvious enough.

CAPCOM ISN'T PART OF AIAS SO THEIR GAMES DON'T GET NOMINATED. I think it's because you have to pay to be in AIAS and capcom doesn't want to pay.

Uh, negatory on that. The music was produced very well, but it tried to be way better than it is. Using an orchestra does not provide a free ride into "good music" territory.

Gears is innovative for the co-op alone and dont trash the annimation because its actually really really good.

Its predictable that Gears would get called overrated after it passed 3 million in sales.

It deserves every win it gets.

One could say how Zelda has been done over and over again, but despite that, it is still one of the better formulas in Adventure gaming. For a game that size and of that scope, it does an incredible job of giving the player a very seamless world without getting in the way. The dungeon design in itself is excellent. As far as I can remember, almost every room in the dungeons has something for you to do in the sense of solving a problem or puzzle. If you want to knock it for being unoriginal, thats fine since it doesn't do much different from other Zelda's and definitely shouldn't win an innovation awards. But don't knock its actual game design as that in itself is very solid by any standard.
