AIAS nominations up. Gears of War leads with 10 nominations

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas Ubisoft Montreal Ubisoft

Call of Duty 3, Rainbow Six:Vegas do not belong in the art direction category. I dont know how the hell they didn't nominate Okami or Zelda:TP for those 2 spots. WTF are they thinking?

Meh! I think Halo is more overrated than GOW.

I don't think either is overrated. There is no such thing as overrated. They are rated as they are rated.

Overrated is a message board word that means nothing in real life.

Game Play Engineering. I like that sound of that so much I'm going to use it as my own. And that phrase is exactly why I think TP is so good. Any game that can make a simple block puzzle so much fun has got to be working some magic behind the scenes.

You know what's funny? It seems any game that's hyped, turns out to live up to the hype and a great game, then goes on to sell millions automatically becomes OVER-rated.

It never fails. Halo, GTA, GOW, etc are all great games and not overrated in my book. They usually get exactly what they deserve.

What happened to a game just being rated? Is there such a thing? If GOW would have stopped selling at 1 million, could it have just been called rated?

I don't get it.

I don't understand Lego Star Wars getting the Animation nod. I mean they're animating lego people! There are like 3 points of articulation. That doesn't seem very hard to animate. Or are they simply rewarding the amount of expressive-ness they achieved with the simple movements?

I would say Resistance was too late for the awards, but it launched soon after Gears and even before Zelda.

I have no idea why they didn't pick it.

But remember, there's always a snub. Remember when everyone was expecting Metroid Prime to face off against Splinter Cell and they didnt' even nominate Ubisoft's game?

One bright spot: You know what's missing from the overall category?

You guessed it. A PC shooter. They pick one of these games just about every year.

No Okami mention in that category. Those nominations just failed.

Call of Duty 3, Rainbow Six:Vegas do not belong in the art direction category.

why not? outside of Okami not being nominated which is an obvious thorn in peoples cornflakes, both games look fantastic

Gears of War gets a nod in animation and innovation, arguably its two weakest categories

... animation in Gears isn't good or something?

"...yet games like Okami, FFXII, Valkyrie Profile and probably many others I'm forgetting get snubbed? Come on. Hell Twilight Princess was probably more innovative than Gears was. Plus it had much better animation."

what? Gears isn't innovative and FFKOTORII is ?!? Okami !?! come now.
Zelda has better animation than Gears? I know there are opinions and everything, but seriously ... are you sure about this?

Hey GhaleonEB, you got that Halo 3 invite yet? I kinda root for you to get one. Biggest fans should get it first IMO, they can and will appreciate it.
Nope, but I'm getting Crackdown, so no worries. The only thing the bundle with the Beta key did was make me pre-order. :)

just because gears of war has no anime characters and nerds can make hentai fanart out of it doesn't mean its overrated

Gears of War is Terminator kind of awesome. It's perfectly suited to the Xbox: kickass graphics, amazing sound, corny dialogue, online play and the cole train. It's that marquee game that every console gamer knows about, and it's just about the first of this new gen.

I recently beat Gears of War over the weekend with a friend....and yes I'll give it GOTY. It's freakin' fantastic.

Could you imagine how cool it would be if epic did a ninja gaiden black type thing with the single player ? New enemies, new weapons, new boss ?

Its already ever so replayable with co-op alone.

So, does AIAS stand for Asshole Idiots Against Sanity?

Gears having the best gameplay "innovation?" Gimme a break.

Don't get me wrong. Gears is a great game. I really love playing it. But I also love driving a Ferrari. While a Ferrari might have a few features that most cars don't have, like having a shift plate on the steering wheel, it still uses the same feature that have been used to drive cars since the turn of the twentith century.

Gears uses the same gameplay mechanics that have been around for. Very fun gameplay, but nothing new.

And what's with nominating VF4? That game came out a few years ago.

I think that theres a high chance Gears of War will go down as the most overrated game of all time.

Wait...what?

OOT and Halo both deserve the acclaim the got.

and GoW doesn't? you're joking right? Why exactly do you think this?
Imo This is THE next-gen defining title out of all next-gen titles at the moment. It deserves all the love it gets. After playing through gears of war, I decided to start making the leap to Next gen, and not until then had I planned to.

How the **** does a game with game breaking game design choices and generally broken gameplay end up being nominated for so many awards? Including one for gameplay design!

Oblivion was enjoyable, and one of the more enjoyable experiences I've had on the 360, but ****, it was a broken game as far as design goes. If it wasn't so overhyped by the press and forum lunatics (like gow, but at least gow has solid game design backing it), it wouldn't have gotten those scores.

That list has a lot of pretty bad games on it and missing a few really good ones. The hell is wrong with this industry...

Oblivion's design is excellent. It got good reviews, and has sold three million copies. Hype only gets you so far. It did a lot right.

SOMEONE ALREADY MENTIONED THAT CAPCOM IS NOT PART WITH AIAS SO THAT'S WHY THEIR GAMES WONT BE NOMINATED IN ANY CATEGORIES.

The Zelda hate around here is so damned funny. People bitch because the gameplay is pretty much the same. Ironically, if they changed the gameplay at all, people would bitch about how it "isn't Zelda."

Agree with you on that. Gears is the only game that made me say WoW over a dozen times.
