Aion US Beta 2 (June 19 - June 22)

godhandiscen

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.

The game is a looker and so far it is fun. I already preordered my CE. Anybody else playing?

edit: BTW, that intro screen is rendered with the game engine. The game looks that good.

Just preordered earlier this week and spent a couple hours playing now. It definitely feels like an Asian influenced WoW, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Amazingly there were tons of players and the game ran smoothly (both in terms of framerate and server stability).

Played a warrior to 6, definitely an enjoyable change of pace so far.

I find the lack of screens disturbing but I'll settle on some more details about the game from people who played it. The art style looks different and fresh so it has my interest.

Yes, I was impressed too. I was looking at dozens of characters in the initial area and the game ran incredibly smoothly. I have never seen a better MMO engine.

I am posting them, give me a second.

Looks interesting. What's the monthly fee going to be? Is it going to be the standard $10 per month?

They haven't announced it yet. Also, isn't $15 the standard?

Played for about 20 hours on the other Beta with the English patch, first MMO that I've played in a while, not bad, but definitely felt the grind when it came time for the kill 50 thing quest.

Not much flight up to there either.
I will be passing since it costs money :lol

I've been wanting to play this... when's the open beta happening?
Well, you can just go to a Gamestop, preorder the game for $5 and they will give you a code. You can play this beta with the code. If you don't like it, you can ask for your money back.

Played the Korean beta with the English patch. It definatly feels like WoW which is probably why i'm going to pass. 3 years of WoW kinda burned me out. Ah well Mortal online let's how you can persuade me.

I got my Summoner to 21 and Templar to 20 in the Chinese version till I had to start paying. Was pretty fun, for the most part. I never really felt the grind till I got to 19. Well, not with the Summoner. I felt it with the Templar at times. Oh well, I'll pick it up when it comes out here in the Fall.

Played the Chinese Open beta. Had lots of fun with it. It's not anything like WoW. Probably will pass on it though. It's more like Lineage which I'm not really much of a fan of. It's very Korean in terms of MMO play style.

Have they released the system specs for this yet? It looks interesting, but I don't know if my rig can run it. I could run Crysis on mid settings, but that doesn't have hundreds of people running around the same area like most MMO's do.

*edit* It looks like I will be able to run it, at least the recommended specs. Probably have to run it at low settings though. Still, I've been getting more and more interested in this lately, I canceled my WoW sub a month ago, and I need something to fill the gap until SW:ToR comes out.

It's running off the Far Cry 1 engine, so you should be fine. The game runs pretty smooth. You'll get some lag, like everyone else, around the main populated cities. Nothing real bad though. I'm going by my experience in the Chinese beta.

Has anyone figured out how to run the beta on Windows 7 yet? Gameguard isn't compatible with 7 yet and causes Aion not to run. There is a hack out there to get it to work correctly (by swapping some files from a game that does work with 7), but it yields BSOD's for me whenever I try it.

Have you tried this? I'm running Windows 7 RC 64 bit and it works fine for me.

Level 28 gladiator and 20 cleric on the chinese open beta/retail, I'm now in the EU/US beta events but I'm a little burnt out so I haven't been playing all that much.

Aion isn't revolutionary but NCSoft has learnt from the success of WoW and made a solid MMORPG that caters for the West and East markets. Most likely I'll be playing come retail.

It really should just go into open beta or retail, it's very polished with little to no bugs but unfortunately sense and NCSoft West don't go hand in hand.

I wish you could fly everywhere, heh. I remember before I was under the impression you could fly almost everywhere, but sadly that wasn't the case. Well, that is till you gain access to The Abyss. The whole area is free-flight.

Bah, now I feel like playing again.

What are you going to be Templar or Gladiator, godhandiscen?
I don't know yet. What should I choose? I can only play today. I am going on a roadtrip tomorrow.

hm.. this looks pretty compelling. Dunno if I could lay down even five bucks for a beta that only goes for 3 days tho. I really don't understand why new MMO's don't have OPEN open betas that don't require pre-orders, anything to help them compete against that one game that I would be playing right this second if my server wasn't down.

Depends on your style. However, early on, I would say Gladiators are more fun to play(Polearms ftw) and kill faster. So maybe you can go with that since your play time is limited. Or you can try a Summoner, those also level pretty fast.

I don't think this is the only beta. They have different phases if I'm not mistaken. So while this one may be 3 days, they'll have more play times down the road leading up to release. I think this gives you access to all of them. Not sure though, I haven't read much into it.

I played the Chinese open beta and loved it. I reached lvl 15 but then the beta ended.

I'm not much of an MMO guy (last MMO I played was FFXI) but I'm definitely getting this when it comes out.

It basically will run 3 days every couple weeks until released, with a possible larger beta later on. Each beta is testing a certain area of the game.

Reminds me SO much of Lineage 2, of course there is no surprise it's ncsoft.. It looks nice but I probably wont play another mmorpg til Lineage 3 whenever that is announced in 2011 :lol

There will be at least two more BETA events after this one. Also, you can chage your $5 for Gamestop credit later on if you don't like the game.

Which is all well and good, except for the lack of gamestop on my continent.

I really liked what I managed to play. I doubt I will be back in time to keep playing on Monday. The PVE combat is the most satisfying I have experienced in an MMO since AoC. Ability chains work really well. Also, NCSoft is pro at making MMO's. The game feels incredibly smooth and bug free. WAR didn't feel this polished until months after launch, and let's not talk about WoW. Sadly, I didn't get a chance to try the PVP.

You can even get the code emailed to you if you pre-order on EBGames.com.

I haven't played the game yet, so I'm not sure if I want to plunk down money for it... and wouldn't you know it? You can't cancel the order after the code has been sent!

So oh well.

Whutup gaf ....I confess.... I am a horrible horrible long time lurker, looking to make good with some screen shot goodness. :D Love this game, first MMO I actually ever preordered.

Looking forward to perhaps meeting up online with some of you guys sometime.

Damn you GAFfers! I don't need to be spending more money on games this month, dammit.

And I just cancelled my WoW subscription - that monkey was off my back... *sniff*

Ahhh... Who am I kidding. Game looks awesome and if I ever get back into Development, I'm hiring gaffers as my marketing team. You totally sold me on this one.

Did they mention anything about end-game content? Or will it turn into another CoH, 1 end-game raid and nothing for 6 years.

Any new game that has kill stealing is doomed to a small audience when the major game the past 5 years hasn't had it.

Wait a minute....this isn't just for certain servers?

Nope. There's no such thing as a "tap". Whoever does the most damage to the mob gets loot rights. I don't know how well that plays out in the higher levels, but in 1-10 that sucks if you're a warrior. It takes a while to kill something, so a mage can fire off a spell or two and get loot rights even though you've already engaged and attacked the mob.

A good amount of people are complaining about it on the beta boards, but there's also a good number of people crying about how if they're not pounding nails through their dick, it won't be fun, so don't you dare change this.

There's a lot of neat things going on with Aion but my main concern is over shit like this. Its Korean roots show through and I worry it's going to be some Lineage 2 grind-a-thon.

Log on the server and try picking an herb/fruit thing. Notice the bar that pops up and how long it takes, then wince as you seriously consider this game's western future.

Wow, kill stealing? That right there is enough to turn me off completely. I don't have the time or patience for that kind of antiquated MMO crap. Next you'll tell me there is XP debt if I die.....
