If there is anything conservatives have always given us it is myriads of talented artists, from country singers to other country singers. I expect this movie to be almost as funny as Pluto Nash.

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
yeah, that was bad.

zucker should take a cue from his friends matt and trey when it comes to political humor.

i did laugh out loud at the taliban training video, though. felt dirty afterwards.

I'm fine with a parody movie of the far left but this looks to take it into the wrong direction.

Put more effort in it, plz.
definitely the wrong direction.

i couldn't get out of thinking, "is this guy just having a laugh about neocon stereotypes, or are these things really getting him batshit insane?", like the hollywood hates america stuff. because saying something like 'boy, hollywood really hates america' takes me straight out of enjoying your comedy and plops me right into wacked-out fox news mindspace.

That confirms exactly the vibe I got from the trailer. If they didn't tell me in print articles, I wouldn't know the movie was an attack on the left because it looks like a parody of the right. It's fine to disagree and dislike Moore, for example, but his stances against downsizing, outsourcing, gun violence and media fear mongering don't exactly scream "I HATE AMERICA!" to most normal people, so it's natural to think people portraying him that way are mocking themselves.

There are actual jokes to be made. Instead, we get "thank Allah for the ACLU" and "Moovealong.org"?

If this is the best they can do, I'm proud to be an Arab-loving Communist.

The thing about how he's drinking pomegranate juice at a meeting between Hollywood and the Media explains a lot.

This reminds me of that Fox News attempt at a Daily Show rip-off, in that there could be funny right-leaning comedy -- honestly, that's the bread and butter of a lot of South Park jokes, although they don't wear any ideology on their sleeves -- but that show, and this movie, miss the point. A tit-grabbing Michael Moore clone? Moovealong.org? Zombie ACLU staffers? This is boneheaded nonsense. The Daily Show, to contrast, tends to hit any target worth a joke. This is polemical through and through, from the details given, and completely stupid to boot.

I'd never call the Bush administration "right-" (meaning conservative; and conservative meaning "maintaining the status quo") anything, except in terms of social issues. Government has increased leaps and bounds under Bush, and he certainly hasn't been fiscally conservative.

It's incredible how many people miss this fact. I lean towards the socialist side of things in many ways, but nothing drives me crazier than A: Watching Clinton's surplus fall so far into the red, and B: People calling the administration responsible "conservative."

Even from my viewpoint, I can see what makes sense about fiscal conservatism. What happened to those people? Wasn't that the heart of conservatism? I can digest that as a different viewpoint that could end up working just as well, in different ways, than my own. But the current conservative reign? What the hell ARE they, even? I know they seem to really dislike gay people. They default to censorship (which breaks social private barriers -- is that a tentpole of social conservatism in some sense?). And the highest-ranking members think socializing the Wall Street fuckups without any checks and balances that legitimate socializing would enact is a good idea.

It's not right vs. left. It never has been, and it certainly isn't now. There's just some strange populist ideas that have formed within both "sides," neither of which make much sense when properly examined.

By a true definition of the term as it was established, current war-mongering types are actually liberals.

To take it back to this film: This helps nothing, calls out nobody who hasn't already been called out in some less boneheaded fashion. And it defends an ideology that is murky, at best, against one that can only be defined in simplistic, murky terms.

9. AMERICAN CAROL, AN 1,215,000
10. RELIGULOUS LIONSGATE 1,129,000

damn, hopefully religulous pulls ahead

American Carol is in like over 1000 more theatres at least according to Box Office mojo.

Eh... That's actually not THAT bad. It's actually doing an okay average considering how few theaters it is being shown in.

The Christian film Fireproof, on the other hand, being shown in even fewer theaters, is doing amazing considering the size of its intended audience. Its budget was seriously nothing because it had a lot of volunteer work. I think a half Mil or something.

AND: Religulous is doing really awesome! Only 500 theaters.

No, it's a lousy number for a wide release, period. Religulous' numbers aren't that impressive, either.

Religulous can't be considered a wide release though...

It's semi-wide... wait, on second thought, I take it back. It's the second-highest per-screen in the top 10, so that's not bad.

Hcoregamer00

The 'H' stands for hentai.
I saw the film yesterday, it was quite funny.

My favorite moment was easily the Terrorist training video and the Christian Terrorists.

:lol

Sol..

I am Wayne Brady.
This is an outrage

as an "leftist" or whatever the fuck that means i do wanna see it. We must support Farley's brother WE MUST!

"Obama would be a slave if the Civil War was never fought" doesn't even make sense. His family is from the opposite coast of Africa, and came over centuries after the foreign slave trade ended.

Kinitari

Black Canada Mafia
I wanna watch it, just so I can poke fun at it in good conscience.... but I just really don't want to at the same time.

Now that it's officially bombed, Zucker can do what he should have done and take this awful movie back to 2004, when half the country shared his retarded Manichean worldview and Michael Moore was still relevant.

Saw the first 10 minutes of it and found it funny, I'll have to see it soon. Its about time someone makes a decent movie like this, hopefully I'll see more movies like it after someone decided to break the ice.

edit:

We have had heard from numerous people across the country that there has been some ticket fraud when buying a ticket for An American Carol this past weekend.

Please check your ticket. If you were in fact one of those people that were "mistakenly" sold a ticket for another movie please fill out the form below. Hold on to your ticket so we can have proof.

If you have noticed other irregularities with the theatres in your area please let us know in the comment section below. For instance, Rated R film rating (when in fact we are rated PG-13), posters not being up, not being listed on the marquee, image or focus problems, sound issues, etc.

Please email us a picture of your ticket stub to fraud@americancarol.com

We are investigating.

Wow. I assumed Religulous would totally bomb given its infidel message. Well, it has got some good reviews.

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
:lol

What the hell would a ticket stub to another movie prove?

Indeed. Still, the Naked Gun trilogy gives him a free pass to do whatever the heck he wants.

It was so much better when it was Zucker-Abrams-Zucker and not just Zucker. Bah.

Honestly, I think the first Naked Gun picture was the last good one. The latter two dropped off big time.

Ticket irregularities? Theater attendee suppression? Regardless if there's any basis to those claims, the irony of those claims given the political tilt of the movie is probably the funniest thing to come out of this sad affair thus far.

:lol The excuses start already.

Face it guys, you suffered from incredibly poor timing. A pro-Republican movie coming out right at the time when most of America is pissed at them for having royally fucked up the whole country? Not gonna fly.

Like I said, the whole movie seems like it should have been made four years ago. Not that it would have been funnier then, but at least Michael Moore was significantly more relevant, and the American public as a whole was a lot more sympathetic to Zucker's worldview.

How come conservative humour is so weak? How come it's all about slapping liberals and dehumanizing their opponents. The Fox Daily Show clone suffered the same problem. No wit, no clever observation, no pointing out of hypocracy or double standards. All they do is hit you over the head with their version of events, regardless of how divorced from reality it seems.

EDIT: Checking Rotten Tomatoes, it can boast a 15% rating. Oh Kelsy, as if your career wasn't sinking fast enough. We'll always have Fraser.

This movie out on the internwebs. Most of the laughs are in the first couple of minutes. After that it becomes more propaganda than comedy. Also why the fuck did they directly steal a scene from Onion Movie? If you want to watch it I suggest DLing it. Financial support it and they might bankroll more crap like this.
