Wasn't there a rumor about a vita port for 999? I hope so because I'd love to replay it and get more ZE trophies. It's also the best in the series, in my opinion.

Hoping for 999 port news, and no limited edition nonsense they'll inevitably screw up. If they didn't have a history of repeated issues with ZE watch editions I'd be less apprehensive, but apparently VLR also had a ton of issues for those who bought it with a watch.

i've never screeched to a halt so fast on a franchise before. ztd was so bad and aksys's handling of retail issues was so terrible.

I might actually be disappointed if they announce a new game rather than just ports.

After the way ZTD ended I'd like a new game but this is just going to be news about the ports.

Same. After finishing ZTD I sold my copy as well as my copies of the other games. I've never been so disappointed by a game. The only thing that made me hesitate was the thought of a new game eventually coming out and righting some of the wrongs done by ZTD but that seemed so unlikely.

I didn't realize ZTD was a bad game.

What happened? It seemed to be everybody wish come true. All I know that something happen with the preorder watches, but I never read to much into it.

It's not really a bad game, but it's just so inferior to its older brothers.

It wasn't bad, but it also wasn't as good as its predecessor.

Though I'd argue gameplay wise it improves on LVR, which already was a significant improvement over VLR. Since I also enjoyed the story a lot (though not as much as LVR's), I'm happy with the game.

Maybe they will also make new visual novels by the same team under the Zero Escape moniker without directly continuing the story? Like for instance in the Final Fantasy series...

I'm guessing it's just about the remasters/ports. ZE4 would be nice though, I enjoyed ZTD. The story should be kinda done already though, I'd rather it would bring new characters.

1. the returning characters barely act like themselves.
2. direction is sloppy resulting in cutscenes that are a very poor replacement for bust-ups.
3. the main twist is fucking stupid and the writing is awful in general.
4. while 999 and vlr had some ideas it toyed with, like the morphogenetic field and the split timeline, ztd jettisons any of that in favor of bad soap opera drama.
5. vlr is relegated to a bad end in ztd.
6. the english voice acting, while optional, is spotty at best.
7. the pacing sucks: it goes from story-story-story to puzzle-puzzle-puzzle-puzzle and then story-story-story. 999 and vlr mixed it up a lot better.

it's not just disappointing. it's a bad game.

Yeah, seems like the Vita / PC ports.

Though Spike Chunsoft self published ZTD on PC, so I would think that would be the same case here, as they've been self publishing most of their stuff there, and were the sources of the original teases a while ago IIRC. So might just be Aksys teasing the Vita version (though it might be coming out the same time and Aksys will just kinda ignore like they they did ZTD).

Yeah you guys can speak for yourselves, it was definitely a bad game in my opinion. Killed any interest I would have in the future for the series. I loved the first two and can honestly say there was nothing that I loved about the third or even really liked. Like every decision they made to make it different was the wrong one.

We all wanted closure, basically. It ended up disappointing, partially an inevitable outcome I suspect but also because it went in some questionable directions or even straight up unsatisfying routes. But I enjoyed the ride enough and am glad it wasn't Mega Man Legends 3 all over again.

More ports are always nice. I really enjoyed 999, but I never had the motivation to play VLR. It was a nice one-and-done, standalone thing to me. I was really considering playing it when ZTD was announced, but having heard how disappointing it was I don't really feel like playing VLR anymore.

I've only just finished VLR two days ago (loved it as much as 999) and started ZTD with absolutely zero expectations because of the feedback I read on Neogaf.

I can't know if a sequel would make sense since I have no idea how the third game ends, but at this point whatever keeps the series/this style of games going is a good thing to me.

A proper 999 port would be sweet, especially with a few improvements, not like the iOS one which removed puzzles IIRC.

Honestly I think the ze concept could only really sustain a trilogy anyway. I'm just disappointed that ze3 is how it ends.

I'd rather uchikoshi move on to a new project

Between ZTD and Aksys decision to halt dubbing their fighting game localizations, I'd say they've had a pretty terrible year.

That said, giving new fans an opportunity to experience 999 first-hand would be a pretty nice way to wrap up 2016 on a positive note.

No one should be preordering anything from Aksys ever again.

There's not a single line of thought on the game, but I found it to be a huge disappointment. From the characters to presentation to the ending.

I've been waiting to start this series. Please release 999 on PC already. Yes I have 999 for the DS and never played it more than 10 minutes, but I still want to start on PC.

if you have 999 on the ds then you really should play it on the ds. this isn't like other visual novels where the platform doesn't matter.

Anything other than that 999 remake and I'm out, ZTD was such a trainwreck that it completely killed my interest in the future of the franchise

As AniHawk said, play it on DS. It isn't just a case of platform preference for 999, despite outward appearances the dual screens are absolutely essential for the story and a massive plot twist.
