Aksys teasing news about Zero Escape series

I mean ZE was by far the franchise I had the most emotional investment in (in any media), so I will certainly be interested if it's an unlikely 4th game despite ZTD. 999 vita port is day fucking 1, but I will probably have to resist preordering after the ZTD watch debacle.

Edit: Also I'm pretty sure that Aksys said that they'd have 999 port news by the end of October so this is probably those news. I'm pretty sure that PC/Vita will get ports (Uchi had a tweet that went like "A Vital Steamsip", so likely steam+vita). On mobile so can't find either tweet.

Edit 2: Fuck ZTD for everything except its reveal

Really, really hope this is news about the 999 port. Sounds lame, but I've had VLR on Vita for a while but held off on playing it because I wanted to play 999 first. A Vita port would be the ideal opportunity.

Is a Vita port of 999 a serious contender among other ports? I'd love to complete the trilogy on the one platform...

1. the returning characters barely act like themselves.
2. direction is sloppy resulting in cutscenes that are a very poor replacement for bust-ups.
3. the main twist is fucking stupid and the writing is awful in general.
4. while 999 and vlr had some ideas it toyed with, like the morphogenetic field and the split timeline, ztd jettisons any of that in favor of bad soap opera drama.
5. vlr is relegated to a bad end in ztd.
6. the english voice acting, while optional, is spotty at best.
7. the pacing sucks: it goes from story-story-story to puzzle-puzzle-puzzle-puzzle and then story-story-story. 999 and vlr mixed it up a lot better.

it's not just disappointing. it's a bad game.

I have to agree with AniHawk. It's not just disappointing, it's awful. It was easily, by far, my biggest disappointment in 2016. It's just not the worst game I played this year because I've played Touhou Scarlet Curiosity last month.

Ah. So it was just disappointing.

That's gotta suck.
I enjoyed it immensely. Was it as good as the others in the series? No, but that's also like saying that this NY Strip is cooked just a little too long versus the two you had before. At the end of the day, you're still having a steak. It wasn't the best of the series, but still one of my favorite games this year.

999 port I hope just so more people have a chance to play it. I blame vlr for how the series ended because at times it felt like both that and ztd didn't care about 999 other than hey guys look characters from that game! 999 is just to good.

I think the DS will always be THE way to play 999, but this series deserves to be preserved.

I also enjoyed ZTD far more than VLR, but I'm clearly a minority here.

Though I'd argue gameplay wise it improves on LVR, which already was a significant improvement over VLR. Since I also enjoyed the story a lot (though not as much as LVR's), I'm happy with the game.

Maybe they will also make new visual novels by the same team under the Zero Escape moniker without directly continuing the story? Like for instance in the Final Fantasy series...

I like ZTD . I still think it's a great game and this comes from someone who has platiniumed VLR twice on his PSN account and i'm not even counting the times i've played 9,9,9

I love this franchise And ZTD was a fine entry.

Very much done with this series, for sure.

The game was an absolute disaster from the perspective of setting up resolutions for all the remaining threads in VLR. Just left sich a bad taste in my mouth.

Anything other than that 999 remake and I'm out, ZTD was such a trainwreck that it completely killed my interest in the future of the franchise

As AniHawk said, play it on DS. It isn't just a case of platform preference for 999, despite outward appearances the dual screens are absolutely essential for the story and a massive plot twist.

I'm still mad I paid full price for it!

I'm surprised at all the hate for ZTD here. I played all three games very recently, basically once I heard ZTD was coming out I went back and played the first two and loved them. Finished VLR about two weeks before ZTD came out and was pumped for that, and I loved it. I thought it was pretty great, on par with VLR.

ÂŻ\_(ツ)_/ÂŻ But that's just my opinion. Probably because I didn't wait however long everyone else did between the games.

I didn't realize ZTD was a bad game.

What happened? It seemed to be everybody wish come true. All I know that something happen with the preorder watches, but I never read to much into it.

I enjoyed it for the most part. Some annoying or odd parts but overall good. Not better than VLR or 999 though.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills, because I really enjoyed ZTD and didn't like VLR. Of course 999 is the best of them, though.

Aksys has no right to ever do an LE or preorder bonus ever again.

This tease is probably for a port of 999 to Steam and/or Vita, if I had to guess.

ZTD is definitely not a bad game. It's the final act/last 10% that totally drops the ball.

When the ending is bad, it can leave a bad taste in people's mouths, despite the rest of the ride being quite good.

Yeah I agree it's a port.

Tbh I'm not sure I even want another new Zero Escape game, last one was kind of underwhelming for me.

This is definitely related to the 999 port. An Aksys employee has been putting short voice clips for the characters on her twitter as well (Clover was the last one she uploaded last I checked).

Regardless of what it is, I'm in. I'm one of the people who actually enjoyed ZTD except for the ending which was a bit underwhelming. But I'm still a fan for life.

It's probably them announcing the 999 platforms. They are putting a shit load of effort to just put it on PC. They've also been teasing some of the English VOs too.

The best enjoyment of 999 can only be gained from playing on the DS.

This nonsense needs to stop.
Seriously, the game will be fine on just about any platform provided Chunsoft doesn't strip the room escape scenes again.
Ever 17 was fine on PC.
Root Double was fine on X360/PC.
There's really no reason for 999 not to work on PC. Really.

I think it's really weird that it has the number 4 and there are four zeroes in a row.

That makes me want to think there will be a 4th game, but weren't ZTD'S sales terrible?

I guess I'll join the camp of ports/steam releases.

But PC players will miss out on
meta DS dual screen story telling

Some people so salty over ZTD, jesus. I enjoyed it. It's not the best, likely the worst, but not actively bad imo. It's just that after having a really novel and impressive headfuck in 999, then managing to 1up the batshit insanity for VLR, it really looked like they had nowhere to go so it felt like more of the same.

Also it felt shorter, likely as you just can't fit as much text into the fully scripted/choreographed scenes of ZTD as they could in the first two, so even if the game lasts as long, there's less writing.

Ok, also some of the new characters were bad and one reveal in particular just made zero sense.

Except that the biggest twist was reliant on the platform it released on.

Regarding the series as a whole, I enjoyed 999 and I LOVED VLR but ZTD was so underwhelming that it kind of dwindled my interest in the series. I just wish ZTD had been more satisfying. It didn't have to be better than its predecessors, it just had to conclude the series in a way that made sense but IMO it failed to do that. I'd welcome DLC but I'm only expecting it to be news on the 999 port which I'll probably double dip on.

If it is news, I'd hope the port lands on 3DS as well, since such a version with higher colour depth/res artwork would also be able to best recreate the experience of the original game. Will be interesting to see how they adapt it to PC/Vita in the meantime though. I'm sure little will be lost overall but it's certainly going to feel like a different experience for good and bad reasons.

Well, sorry for being salty over a game that I desperately wanted to see exist for more than 2 years being a crock of shit

This is what's getting people wound up. I can only assume that the only way anyone can seriously imply ZTD is actual shit is if they haven't actually played a bad visual novel. It's not a two point scale where the options are "Great job uchikoshi" and "Fuck you Uchikoshi".

It's still in the upper echelons of the genre, even if it had questionable new gimmick and wasn't a satisfying ending.

I think people put too much expectation on it's shoulders. It's not a bad game! Probably gonna end up 2nd on my GOTY list, but it's certainly the weakest in the trilogy.

If a random PC game can make your Steam friends PM you during gameplay to do Satan's bidding, 999 can surely handle whatever it sets out to accomplish just fine.
^Need more info please.

I'm guessing this is 999 PC/vita related but I'm hopeful for more.

Where did I hear this before. Oh, right...
,,But this [TV show gone really bad] is still better than 99% of things airing on TV!!". This kind of argument says nothing really. Or rather, it says more about the genre than about ZTD.

Alot of it has to do with expectations for a few characters, their roles in ZTD and how things wrap up the series as a whole. Plus one plot device that seemed to rub a few fans the wrong way. I enjoyed most of it, but it does come off as the weakest of the three.

It's not a BAD game, but it's just much weaker than 999 and VLR so it leaves you with a somewhat meh feeling. I'm very, very glad the game even exists in the first place, but I feel somewhat disappointed by its quality.

999 and VLR both had great twists and turns throughout the story, and climaxes that made you go "HOLY SHITTT" *head explodes* at the end.

ZTD was pretty interesting at first, kind of peters out fairly quickly into predictable or eye-rolling bullshit, and the ending made you go "huh. That was pretty cool I guess." if you looked past all the ass-pulls that brought you to that point.

A sequel that just handwaves away most of its prequel's hanging questions and plot threads. Utterly horrendous presentation and cutscenes. Barely any new soundtracks outside of puzzles. Just one big twist behind it all that wounds up being pretty much pointless.

Honestly these all make ZTD a pretty shitty VN and/or game, especially as a sequel, and if you disagree then I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. And don't pull the "It's good on its own!" shtick (not saying that you did so before), especially not for a sequel that exists SOLELY because people wanted a proper resolution to Virtue's Last Reward's hanging plot threads and mysteries.

Is a very good game, I think for the future the should drop the production values. They tried a Telltale approach and didn't really worked.
