Alan Wake 2 will be one of PS+ Monthly Games in October

Cool, I guess I'll try it now.
The original was ok, but the more I read about AW2 online the less interested I became. Sounds like a game that doubles down on the crappy Sam Lake storytelling while having less actual gameplay and combat than their previous games.

But as part of Ps+ I'll give it a try.
It's one of the most Modern Game games I've played in that it consistently treats you like a moron who can't count to five, over-explains everything three times in a row and lets you actually play off a leash for maybe ten minutes at a time. Combat is baffling because it is not bad at all yet the game refuses to ever really let it off the leash. It's always like...two or three enemies with some huge buildup and the fight is over in ten seconds and you wonder what all the fuss was about. It's this Modern Game thing where you're 8 hours in and it still feels like a tutorial.

It's "free", so try it, but based on your post, this might be exactly what you don't want lol. It's best to view it as a walking sim with combat here and there.

I remember it released right after Spider Man 2 and GoW Ragnarok, and maybe it was that context that put me in a place where I just wasn't feelin' it. It seemed like it was going to be such a slow burn that would require a lot of time and attention, I decided to push it a few weeks after Halloween so I could savor it during annual 2-week holiday vacation my employer gives us at the end of every year. That turned out to be the perfect move, I played through it twice over that break, I fucking loved it. I'm thinking about re-playing it for Halloween this year, after I finished SHf.

Yeah that's basically the vibe I got from all the comments I read about it online, which is why I never ended up buying it.
I enjoyed the combat and physics in Control and Quantum Break, but the story is always subpar. This always sounded like it's 95% story and 5% ok combat, which just doesn't sound appealing.

But yeah, for "free" I guess it's worth a try. At least the graphics are apparently nice.

It's a frustrating experience. I really am a fan of mindfuck meta-narratives, but here they have some interesting gameplay devices that are only used in a perfunctory manner to serve the (very derivative) story. Just feels like a waste. It also has weird design decisions like item upgrades and skill upgrades that are practically useless because there isn't really any "game" to optimize your character against. Kind of hard to explain.

90 on metacritic one of the best casts, I was sitting in my room playing this and was struct by it's profound sense of horror because I know you're navigating this complex, world and trying to solve murder. So rich in collecting, you're always having a moment with a puzzle or case and everything feels chaotic in a good game. Pausing from Alan Wake 2 just leaves you wanting to play it more.

At the end of the day, plenty of people here also love it. Try it out and @ me when you have some impressions, curious to see your take.

Thinking about it lads, while I did enjoy it when it came out, nowadays I see it as an exercise in vanity more than an actual game.
- ZERO scares
- bloated
- super mediocre, weightless, zero "oomph" combat
- mid performance and especially Image quality on consoles
- bullshit story

At times, it feels more like a walking/immersive sim than an actual survival horror game (special emphasis on "game").

At the time of playing it it felt like an 8/10 but upon revisiting, it feels more like a 6/10 since there's barely any gameplay in there.

The last good Remedy game IMO was Control since it had both an intriguing story, good graphics and "gamey" gameplay.

I don't think I would be up for a 3rd game personally.

Its weird that its called Alan wake yet you play as a woman called sega Anderson.

Is Alan just trapped inside the woman's body? The game experiment with transhuman philosophy?

Imagine playing a game called final fantasy 13 lightening returns. Yet you play as Albert wesker.

Good for those who haven't played it yet. I just wish it would've sold better than it did before launching on services like PS Plus.

You do play as Alan Wake for a good chunk, and the game's plot is entirely centered on his character and what he's done or will do.

It's not free...
frustrated idiot GIF

it is a borefest and more of Sam Lake's fart-sniffing approach to story telling. He, like Kojima, think they are more clever than they actually are.

Desperation for remedy. Game isn't even that old. Looks like whatever sales were trickling in isn't worth the wait. Just sub plan it for a fee.
Remedy isn't the publisher, they don't get to decide. This is Epic getting money bag from Sony. Game will likely see a Gamepass release in 5-6 months.

Lol wut the article says "after a disappointing game selection this year"
PS+ (and GP) hating is just pure cringe ever since people did not understand what Premium is for and talk shit about everything. You basically get almost all noteworthy games of the entire platform and people will still complain because of clicks or are actually that retarted to believe that none of the PS+ tiers isn't worth its fees and pretend every month to not renew their membership which they probably don't have anyway. Drags the awesomeness of sub services down, cause too many people are just idiots and clowns in articles themselves and flood the comments everywhere.
