Alan Wake cover story @ 1up (new screens and teaser)

I don't think anyone else would infer from those comments that the town of Alan Wake is based off of a Finnish town. They are literally only saying that there are small towns in Finland, and that this includes nearby Helsinki.
i think he's explaining how the theme of 'weird small town' is something that appeals to the Finnish or that the Finnish can relate to, and that is part of why they like shows such as Twin Peaks.

This game has always seemed very atmospheric but it never reminded me of David Lynch.

Needs more dread and weird-angled closeups of characters.

Yeh, I'm pretty sure they have been listing Twin Peaks/Lynch as a major influence since they first showed the game.
they were an influence on the Max Payne games for crying out loud, and those aren't even remotely similiar in genre. Remedy still littered them with references all over the place though. heck, there was even a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reference in there too.

they just love their weird small town shows.

well I don't think it's meant to be a direct Lynch copy... Twin Peaks is just one of the influences. A major one yes, but that doesn't mean they're going to copy every single thing Lynch does.

other references are, I'm sure, the twilight zone, silent hill, and Darkness Falls (crap movie, but kinda stylish and very similar in the whole small town/argh darkness/yay lighthouse stuff).

probably lots of others.

they've set it in the Pacific Northwest cause they love Twin Peaks, but that doesn't creatively mean that they can't tell their own story with their own style. I want them to actually.

Apparently the core team of devs for most of the work cycle was less than 30 people, so costs could have still been kept low comparatively. Think about that compared to the rumored 450+ people cranking away at AC2 for a year.

That's encouraging/impressive. In my eyes it's one of the best looking console games I've seen, so if it's made by 30 people (admittedly over four years) that's quite a feat.

Does anyone know if they've suggested monsters will play into the game? Or is it just these strange shadow humans throughout?

You know, the more I see about the game, the more my excitement dissipates. This doesn't look that good and I loved MP1 & 2/Sam Lake. =/

I think its a case of being too late to the party in a technical sense to be impressive anymore.
The flythrough + day/night techdemo 2yrs back was pretty mindblowing for its time - they spent too much time on the tech (ironic considering no pc version now) and not enough on the 'game' and its not aging well visually.

Ok? I'm just stating what the developers have said multiple times now.

I'm pretty sure everyone wants them to tell their own story and it is pretty obvious by the trailers they've released that they are. I'm not sure why anyone would want them to do anything else to be honest.

Speevy seemed to be complaining about the game not being 'shot' like a David Lynch movie. on rereading his post he may not have been complaining at all actually.

Reads to me like he doesn't see anything related to Lynch about the game is all.

FYI on the release date -- we (1UP) won't have any new information about that on Friday. Apologies for any confusion.

have you had a hands-on with the game yet? how's the game looking in your opinion

Wait, so this is coming out in March? Really? May-Aug is always open. I dont know why more publishers don't take advantage of that with new IP's.

Every Alan Wake thread ends with at least 50% of posts complaining about that.
Can't really blame us though since th game was first shown running on a PC a while back. In anycase, looks ace.

I haven't seen it in person since TGS, so this isn't based on anything new, but I'm a total sucker for the game -- love the atmosphere.

Still looks good. I don't really want to see much more though. This is the type of game I want to go in to knowing very little.
