Alan Wake's Return Trademark is not for a game

It looks like we'll be waiting a bit longer for an Alan Wake sequel.

A trademark was spotted last month for "Alan Wake's Return," however, developer Remedy has clarified that it's not for a new game.

According to Kotaku, the trademark is for an in-game live-action video series starring Sam Lake, Remedy's creative director. "A big part of the trademarking process all in all is the legalities of it," Lake said to Kotaku. "Just making sure everything is covered."

Lake said there is "no real news about anything future Alan Wake-related." However, he didn't shut down the possibility of the franchise continuing, saying "we are exploring possibilities and concepting different things, but lots needs to click into place for anything to happen. We will be the first to talk about it when there is something definite to talk about."

Bummer.

Truth of the matter, for me at least, is that Quantum Break doesn't look anywhere near as interesting as the first Alan Wake was. That game had such a great premise and ambiance going for it.

Well, there goes all the interest I've had in XB1 this gen.

If they already hold the trademark for Alan Wake and they're making an in-universe TV show in their follow-up game called 'Alan Wake's Return', would they really have had to register a trademark for this? Isn't it basically like a large-scale Easter Egg; sort of an equivalent of that Lords and Ladies show that was in the first game on every TV set?

Half expected this from the start, Alan Wake seems to get a lot of web series based on it.

Still holding out hope for Alan Wake 2 being Remedys next game.

I was telling everyone this was what it was going to be, but looking forward to it anyway.

I'm on-board, no matter what it is.

Even if a webseries or something. The Bright Falls Web series is surprisingly good. If you haven't watched it, you should: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TX6J0yy-qKM

I think there's just a hidden ARG involving Alan Wake inside the game.

I don't think this is some elaborate game reveal (though I do think Alan Wake 2 will happen).

Quantum Break has a TV series, since this is all involving live-actors to my knowledge, I bet the trademark is for whatever episode this is all filming for. That'd be my guess, sort of like how Alan Wake had the prequel Bright Falls series, except the episode is inside of the game itself.

Can't believe people don't take this as a hint Alan Wake 2 is coming.

You disappoint me GAF.

That sold less than 250.000 copies in its first month.

It actually sold pretty decently lifetime especially after the PC version came out. Reason for the initial sales was because they chose to release at the same time as Red Dead.
Alan Wake is better than Red Dead Redemption, there I said it.

My thoughts exactly. When it comes to pure atmosphere a very few games are on a level with Alan Wake.

The gas station was shining brightly in the distance. I had to get out of this darkness. I ran through the forest, tree branches whipping me in the face. I managed to clamber over the fence, and burst through the door. The walls felt both safe and confining. On the counter, there lay a single manuscript page, it's words both familiar and alien, comforting and terrifying: HIT THE LEVER.
