Michael Jackson - Dangerous

images

At this point, Michael's personal life took center stage, and it seemed most people ignored this album. Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad are great albums but each has at least 1-2 songs i just cannot stand. I love Dangerous, everything about it is great.

Matchbox 20 - Yourself or Someone Like You

I am not typically a fan of this kind of music but this album has some fun catchy songs, i like them all, especially 3AM and Damn.

Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt

The only time i ever really loved Jigga, the mafioso style really suited him well here. All songs are great.

Glad Doolittle was posted on the first page. Other that, first thing that comes to mind is:

Do you force yourself to listen to every song in shitty albums so you can avoid being a chump?
I don't own albums I don't like or listen to artists/songs I don't like.

Most of it plays largely into my obsessive compulsive tendencies to know I completed a listen through of a work, and stuff like playcounts in itunes only serves to worsen that habit.
I have deleted entire albums from my harddrive in the past because I realize I don't like enough of the music from a cd to warrant having it on there.

Quoting for size... and just some that come to mind when looking at my lastfm list

A lot of delicious music in this thread! And while I agree with the sentiment that any good album is worth listening to in its entirety, a lot of albums I love have a ton of ambient tracks interspersed and I only like listening to that stuff when I'm in a very specific mood which is kinda rare, so while I love Old Man Gloom (an example), I find myself often skipping ahead to the real meat of an album. That said, here are a few of my (random) choices:

[Bandcamp/Youtube links included, clicky clicky]

Té - Therefore, the illusion of density breach, the tottering world “forget” tomorrow (... don't ask me - Badass Japanese post-rock, the best kind)

Cult of Luna - Vertikal (Saw them performing the majority of this album live last Monday. Goosebumps. Goosebumps everywhere.)

Russian Circles - Empros

Melvins - A Senile Animal (still my favorite album of theirs)

Harvester - The Blind Summit Records (I dunno, these guys came outta nowhere last year (Ireland, actually) and they say they're influenced by Sabbath and stuff, it's amazing)

Old Man Gloom albums are kind of special in that regard, yes.

Btw, I finally listened to the new Cult of Luna today. So far.... it's good, don't know how good yet. The thing with Cult of Luna, at least for me, is that with every new album I go "Oh, it is ok, but the last one was better". Then I listen to them a bit more and after quite a few listens I am all like "WTF best record ever!". So I think that ever since the second album every new album has become my favourite every fucking time. Weird, this only has happened to me with Cult of Luna for some reason, most bands I tend to prefer the first material.

And I will FINALLY be seeing them live for the first time at Roadburn this year! YES!

Every single album that I care about. If there's an album with only one song I actually like, I simply won't put it on my iPod. I don't care for singles or top 40 lists. Full albums or bust.

Pretty much this, though I'm guilty of uploading new albums on my ipod and leaving it on shuffle.

The best music experience is a full album, it provides all the context for the songs and sometimes the juxtaposition of one song to another can really be a difference maker.

Then let's hope that will be case again! It's certainly my favorite so far, even if Eternal, Highway and particularly Salvation are still very good albums.

It's good you'll also manage to see them live, because who knows when another album or tour is coming. I know I was unreasonably excited for the concert. And Roadburn has a ton of amazing bands, you're so lucky. I don't know how much they'll change the setlist for that (if at all) but I loved what they played: most of the significant stuff out of Vertikal (except for Synchronicity, which is too bad because I love its industrial vibe), Finland, Owlwood and Ghost Trail. Shit was super intense; Johannes' live vocals are insane and the drummers are beasts. Sound was top notch, too. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did!

I think cult of Luna could get away with almost any set list with me except if they would play only songs from vertikal. I'm just afraid the show will be too short since it's a festival and who knows in which slot they will play. That's why I will also go see them in Rotterdam :)

The Mountain Goats - All Hail West Texas
The Mountain Goats - We Shall All Be Healed
The Mountain Goats - Tallahassee
The Mountain Goats - The Sunset Tree

Basically everything by The Mountain Goats. And The Beatles.

Isn't codifying unnecessary and egocentric conditions under which music can be enjoyed basically, something antithetical to most musical movements, authoritarian?

Albums which I dig listening to in their entirety:
Bruce Springsteen - Born in the U.S.A., Born to Run
aIG9fKu.jpg

Divine Fits - A Thing Called Divine Fits
i2x1xj3.jpg

ELO - Eldorado, Face the Music
8MZUlIE.jpg

Frank Zappa - One Size Fits All, Hot Rats
IxMffis.jpg

Prince & The Revolution - Purple Rain
CcLbC5G.jpg

Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, Transference
4jvGQIL.jpg

Steely Dan - Aja
n6g4RTC.jpg

I'd say Rage Against the Machine, but I pretty much always skip "Settle for Nothing." I used to listen to The Battle of Los Angeles straight through almost every day. Don't feel the urge to anymore, so I usually just listen to it shuffled in with the rest of my music.

Good man!

I can, and have, listened to The life of the world to come for hours on repeat.

I was reading a scholarly essay on biblical references in Darnielle's works and I was surprised to learn that a lot of fans complained about the religious stuff. Wtf were these people listening to if they hadn't noticed at that point that JD likes to refer to religion?

Fiona Apple - Tidal
Weezer - Blue Album
Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas
Grimes - Visions

To name a few.

Coheed and Cambria - The Afterman Ascension

So many albums to choose, too many to remember...

I only listen to records, so yeah, all albums get listened to front to back. I have record players in every room of my house. It was a pain, but I also managed to install a record player in my car... you think bumps were bad for CD's?!? I've also fashioned a portable record player with straps for out and about. At the gym, riding bikes, walking the dog, you should see the jelly in everyone's eyes!

If you don't listen to music like me you should stab your ears with ice picks.

Agreed. Don't tell me how to enjoy music, just enjoy it! FWIW I listen to every album I buy the first time through and through. After that, it's fair game shuffling.
