All New Skyward Sword Info from GI + Nintendo

I for one will not complain about the sky overworld for one reason:

Can't stand the robotic "steering a truck" horse from Ocarina and TP. Sorry Epona fans! Steering that thing was just a drag and not fun for me.

LttP remains my favorite Zelda game to date due to its classic, fun to traverse and explore overworld. I'm hoping SS wins me over; flying around evokes memories of Skies of Arcadia, and there's no reality in which a game evoking that kind of connection is a bad thing.

Well in Ocarina of Time, you're stabbing big pig Ganon in the mouth, He then gets up and roars in agony and then the sages seal him away in the Dark World.
So Wind Waker's finishing blow was cool and different. Better than Twilight Princess's at least.

I think what really made it impressive was how it happened. Wind Waker Link is small and Ganon is huge. Link parries and bounces into the air off of Ganon's swords and then does a downward thrust straight into his head. The whole fight just has this epicness to it that the OoT fight doesn't have.

Is the normal retail version of Skyward Sword going to include Wii Motion Plus or do we have to dish out extra dough for a copy with Wii Motion Plus included?

I am pretty sure it is separate.

Only the collectors edition IIRC.

This reminds me that I don't have a Wii Motion Plus. I guess I'll be getting the Collectors Edition.

This game sux. Not only is it teh kiddez and doesnt hav a cover system but you cant even play it with a wiimote!! i swung my controllar round like a crazy person and nothing even happened. its like ninty wanted it to fail. looking forward to uncharted: zelda's virginity in 2013 when ninty goes third party. requiring a wm+ dongle was stupid and is a waste of money$. spend Your money on a Skyrim dragon statue instead.

Something like that, anyway.

Reminds me of that craigslist ad where a person was reselling a 360 copy of FFXIII because he bought it thinking it was an FPS.

I can see people buying the game who don't own a Wii Motion + or Wii Remote +, and don't know one is required.

I will always remember the large number of 1 star amazon (UK) reviews for Umbrella Chronicles because so many people didn't realise it wasn't a typical Resident Evil game.

A fate worse than death.

Following on from what I was saying before:

This game is awful. It is not a Resident Evil game. This is a lousy game trying to capitolize on the Resident Evil franchise name. Do you remember that Hogans Alley game from like 1985 - that could be the engine used for this game. It's like a first person shooter - minus the first person. You have absolutely no control over how the character moves or the stupid decisions they make.

As a Resident Evil fan myself, I wondered if I should purchase this RE Umbrella Chronicles or not. But by going on [...] and looking at the gameplays, and by reading some of the comments some people have posted...I'm glad I made a wise choice of not buying this game. Before I even looked at the gameplay for this game, I thought the gameplay of this game would be like the rest of the other RE games I played...but I was wrong. Like what previous people have posted, this game is just like house of the dead on the arcade. When I buy a game, I want to experience the full story, levels, figure out puzzles and experience the whole game. Instead of buying this "not so good" game, I instead bought RE Archives and I'm glad I made a wise choice. So if your a RE fan like myself, you would know the difference between the two games =).

...didn't even buy/play it yet still gave it one star.

I am very curious about the reaction from such idiots regarding SS.

THis game sux. you just swing a alot and your arm gets tired and zelda gets tired. then the bad guy hits you and you loose a ton of harts and you die. it's too hard. it needs regenerating helth, WORST RPG EVER! dont buy it cuz it sux and wii sux and nintendo sux. get a real console like xbox and a real game like mw3

... Sorry, I'm not very creative or funny.

Just like certain Wii games say "You need a Nunchuck to play this game" and won't start until you connect one, it's likely that Skyward Sword won't even play until it detects the WM+.

On a different topic, is there a particular story element you're most interested in seeing in Skyward Sword? Obviously we know that the Master Sword will be created, but what subplots would make your inner fan squeal most? Examples would be:

  • Introduction of the Gorons to Death Mountain
  • Establishing a royal relationship between the various races (leading up to the Civil War mentioned in Ocarina of Time)
  • Starting the royal family (erotic Link + Zelda fan fiction machine, go!)
  • Revealing the "dark interlopers" mentioned in Twilight Princess
  • Meeting the pre-Ganondorf Gerudo, and maybe their current male king
  • Learning about the original "City in the Sky" (Skyloft?) and the oocca
  • The creation of the Kokiri and the lost woods
  • Introducing the original Sacred Realm
  • Meeting the original Sheikah and passing on the harp

...and so on and so forth. Which ones seem most likely? Which ones are you hoping for?

I think one of the things the game will touch is the sealing of the Sacred Realm. The Master Sword is the key to unlock it in Ocarina of Time, but in Skyward Sword it doesn't exist yet, so either something else is protecting it (and then my guess is it's what Ghirahim destroys in the pre-TGS footage) and they need to replace it with something else. Then we'll see the Temple of Time being, I think.

Good points. I was also thinking (fretting is perhaps the better word) that Ghirahim will eventually turn all the citizens of SkyLoft into the Oocca. As Impaz says in Twilight Princess, "This artifact [The Dominion Rod] was handed down by the people of the sky and was to be carried by the messenger of the heavens in order to communicate with the Oocca" (source: Zeldapedia). Perhaps Link's bloodline takes on the role of the messenger (such as in Twilight Princess) after Skyloft's citizens become Oocca, in order to maintain a connection between the new royal family that Zelda creates and their original birthplace.

Mostly just the creation of the Master Sword, which has always fascinated me since Link to the Past. How is it that this seemingly man-made weapon can repel even the forces of the goddesses?

I'm also hoping for more interaction or info on the goddesses in general, and considering the logo features the Triforce prominently, I'm thinking that will be the case.

I'm also very curious about how the sky/ground split came to be, which is likely to be answered as well.

There's absolutely no way we won't see the City in the Sky in some form in Skyward Sword, be it dungeon or town...

The line from Twilight Princess seems to imply that the people of Skyloft and the Oocca are two separate groups. In that case, the people of Skyloft might abandon the sky at the end of Skyward Sword in order to dwell on land, yet still pass down the ancient artifact so the bond between them and the Oocca could still be maintained...

Just occurred to me: hope I've got enough cash on hand if some store decides to break street date. Got OoT3D like a week early because of Target doing that.

Speaking of Wii Motion Plus, has calibration ever been addressed? I know that you had to re-calibrate the gyroscope every once in awhile in Wii Sports Resort... I wonder if having to do that in SS will sour the experience a little bit?

Anyways Kefka, I can't believe how some guys in that vid were so flippant about TP's ending. It was really memorable for me.

Link beats Ganon's Puppet Zelda, then beats Dark Beast Ganon. Zelda comes to, and Link and Midna give eachother this "yeah we're badasses" look, before flaming head Ganon appears and Midna teleports Zelda and Link to Hyrule Field. Hyrule Castle explodes, and Ganon appears on horseback clutching Midna's helment, crushing it before rushing at Link with his ghostlike horsemen cronies. Just as he's about to strike them, Zelda pleas to the Light Spirits, and they imbue her with the Light Arrows. With newfound determination, Link and Zelda set out on horseback, and force Ganondorf from his horse. Finally, Link and Ganondorf have a one on one duel, and Link jumps through the air and impales Ganon through the weakened spot on his chest.

He stands up and says, "Do not think this ends here. The history of light and dark will be written in blood!" Zant snaps his own neck, and Ganon's eyes go white as he dies, standing there motionless while the wind blows. The four Light Spirits appear and revive Midna, who now has here original form. Later at the Arbiter's Grounds, Link and Zelda see Midna off to her own realm, Zelda optimistic that the people of light and the people of Twilight will be able to co-exist, before Midna shatters the gate between the two worlds, separating them permanently.

That's all off the top of my head, and the last time I saw all that was around Summer 2008.

One of the best endings to a game ever, IMO.

Having just replayed Twilight Princess, I'm totally with you. That ending was great. I can see why it's not as memorable as Wind Waker for most, but still freakin' awesome.

As a gameplay scenario, I think Twilight Princess' ending is indeed grandiose, for all the reasons you described. But the subtlety and thematic cohesive of Wind Waker is, at least for me, on a whole different tier of writing quality.

In Twilight Princess, I (1) have no direct relationship to Ganon (as Link) aside from being possible heir to the Hero of Time's legacy; (2) have no sense of Zelda's importance, since she's absent from much of the game; (3) witness no maturity on Ganondorf's behalf; and (4) feel distant from Ganondorf's death, considering I just went through the motions while Zant actually struck the final below, making the action seem more like a conflict between Ganon and Zant than anything else -- a conflict for which you are an outsider, really.

But Wind Waker utilizes every resource: the courageous but largely naive child, Link, who struggles to grasp the very old Ganondorf's mature vision and language; Ganondorf's striking realizations about his own motivations and their intimate connection to the motifs of wind and water; the sense of being trapped by destiny, supported by the obvious connections to Ocarina of Time; the ambiguous line between two power-seeking adults, as seen in Ganondorf and the King's final verbal showdown; the theme of breaking free from the past, indicated by the washing away of Hyrule and Tetra shoving off more "princess-like" behavior in favor of battle; and finally, Ganondorf's incredibly chilling death scene, which in one perfectly short sentence, encompasses the complexity of his character and the game as a whole.

That's my feeling on the topic. Really, enjoying one or the other more is simply about priorities, since they are both high quality in one regard or the other.
