I'm going by what I hear, and I haven't heard a single word about 'standard HDD' with anything PS3 related.
It's almost like he had to one up MS on every single point. Let's see what they deliver , as they say "Day One".

There are lots of detachable parts on a console. Controllers, mem cards, cords, etc... It's not the devs problem if people take off their HDD that comes with the system (allegedly) for whatever reason. It's not science people.

"Ok. There might be a shark in the tank. There might not. I just want you to swim across the tank assuming that it is there."
Sounds like he's saying, "The HDD is really important to the ways the PS3 can be used, so please please develop for it. We'll tell you whether it's included or not...later on."It's not that there is a version that has HDD or that doesn't, we'd like you to develop software with the assumption that all PS3 have HDD, this is my request. Later, we'll deliver you various information when we announce the price and the SKU, but considering what the market is demanding, we think it's important that I tell you today that, for starters, HDD is the premise. I want you to understand it. Anyway, this HDD is standard SATA 2.5'' drive that is used in PC, so anyone who can use PC can connect it by themselves, or, we may put it in all PS3, I think it all depends on the market. But as a platform, I'd like to repeat, it's all right that you think it has HDD. In an environment always connected to the network it's unthinkable that it doesn't have HDD, so I assume you can feel secure to develop software.
DenogginizerOS said:But what if Sony takes it off before it hits retail and makes it optional?

Like they'd actually trust us with important tactical information, like the final specs of the machine. Puhlease. :loljetjevons said:Guys if it was standard do you think maybe they would of let us good ol' developers know so we could design our games around it?

that saint's row stuff is horse shit. volition knew months before that the HDD wasn't going to be there. It isn't like that feature was up and running and MS pulled the carpet from under them.so devs can use it for games/optimaztion/see saints row
so that people can put it on the bullet point list of things the PS3 has that the Xbox 360 doesn't.PhoenixDark said:Why does the PS3 need a standard hard drive?

PjotrStroganov said:Every PS2 is also a tard pack with the memorycard lacking. I also see the HDD being sold seperately.
TheKingsCrown said:What f*cking demand curve is Sony looking at in the United States? Because when I float the idea of a $425 PS3 to people, they think its ridiculous and I feel the same.

I'm sorry, but I could get a nice new PC for that price (at least, comparative to the 5 year old comp I am using now)! There better be some kind of whopper of a game that only appears on PS3!

Y2Kevbug11 said:$425 would only be $25 dollars more expensive than the Premium 360...demand has been pretty good for that.
SolidSnakex said:Why are you telling them about that specific price for the system?
TheKingsCrown said:Sorry for double post. Isn't this the least that PS3 is going to cost? (as per Sony's conference)
SolidSnakex said:No that was just a rumor. Kutaragi didn't mention anything about the price of the PS3 during that conference.
That is a bit off topic and a little too personal for my tastes.Doom_Bringer said:Seriously! The guy is more annoying than CrimsonSkies. @%@$@ off
chespace said:Not trying to damage control, because I actually do hope that PS3 has a HDD standard (it'd be insane not to)... but I think Sony was vague about this one bullet point for good reason -- price point. Nobody knows 100% what the final business model will be, not even Sony at this point (although they probably have a very good idea).

I'll be a day one customer either way, but let's not be blind to the fact that Sony is being praised for everything the 360 was scolded for...*cough*microtransactionsandworldwidelaunch*cough*
