Last night before bed, was feeling a little under the weather, so I was like, lemme go ahead and read some quality Superman.

Pulled this bad boy out, and man, I some how managed to forget how insanely good this is.

I straight up just wanted to give a shout out to Superman, dudes so clutch, what a G, we definitely need more people like him around.

When Superman Prime shows up with that flower
, DAAAAAMN! So beautiful.

How good is the cartoon they made?

The Animated adaptation is not good at all. Even if you divorce it from direct comparison to the greatness of the book, it's pretty bleh.

So far as comics goes, I put All-Star just behind Birthright, and both of them go behind Busiek's "Secret Identity." In fact, forget "so far as comics goes," those three are the three best Superman stories I've ever read/seen, period.

The animated movie was great. I haven't read the book, but I thought the animated movie had the best Superman story ever told. Should be mostly the same story since it's based on the book.

Apparently the movie really doesn't do the book justice. It tries to condense it all into a 76 minute long movie, and it shows. Even without reading the book you can see that it goes by a lot of stuff far too quickly.

That book was legitimately good as fuck. Never liked superman before that, but it sold me on the potential for what the character could be. They added so much depth to the story, modernized it in a way that made it relatable, the art was beautiful... Just perfect.

I read this along time ago when a friend recommended it. Sadly I can't remember a single thing about it other than it being fairly enjoyable. Might need to give it another re-read.

All star superman is a magnificent book and a loving tribute to my favorite superhero. BobbyRoberts was also right, birthright and secret identity are aces

I love all-star Superman. It's moving to me, make-you-cry moving. It's gorgeous, Quitely's art is timeless and elegant. Dr Leo Quintum may have the snazziest coat in comics. It is the greatest Superman story of all time.

It's too short to give enough time to the many subplots carried over from the original comic. It consequently feels truncated and lacks some of the depth of the original story. Par for course in regards to DC's animated adaptations.

It's not bad overall though, and the voice acting is mostly impressive. I particularly liked Luthor's.

What would be the best Superman "one shots"?
Right now i'm thinking of reading

Red Son
All Star
Secret Identity
Kingdom Come

Anything else as good as these?

i liked what's so funny about truth justice and the american way, as well as those,

. . . Did he trace over photographs?

Yes. Stuart Immonen is one of the most egregious "tracers" in the history of comics.

The real trick was getting a photograph of a boy floating in a sleeping bag to trace over.

That's right up there, too.

In fact, its harder for me to think of a Superman story that's "in-continuity" that's anywhere near as good as his one-shots/elseworlds stories.

Wow I thought everyone made fun of this series. Doesn't Superman let some kid school him in basketball and then that kid becomes super popular? Gag me.

lol...are you think of grounded, the story that everyone hates where superman is a pompous asshole?

Allstar is great. Grounded wishes it understood the character that well.
