Our first glimpse at components that could be destined for the much-rumored 5.8-inch "iPhone 8" and its 4.7 and 5.5-inch companion devices surfaced this morning in a post on reddit. The images are said to be sourced from a case manufacturer who received them from a glass supplier in China.

The first photo depicts what is said to be the front and back panel of the iPhone 8, with the front panel featuring a super thin bezel around all sides along with a top bar that could perhaps house a front-facing camera, microphone, and speaker. There's been some question on how Apple will handle the front-facing camera and mockup devices and renderings haven't offered a clear picture.

Some design renderings have shown a section at the top of the device similar to the front panel in this image, while others seem to feature a bar that extends fully across the top of the device.

The rear panel features a vertical dual-lens camera and a separate protruding lens component, with no rear Touch ID in sight, in line with rumors suggesting Apple has indeed figured out how to build Touch ID into the display of the device.

A second photo depicts the two alleged iPhone 8 components next to alleged components for the 4.7-inch iPhone 7s and the 5.5-inch iPhone 7s Plus, two devices that are rumored to be launching alongside the OLED iPhone 8. All three rear shells are said to be made from glass in order to support wireless charging, and that all three devices will get wireless charging is a rumor we've heard before from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

While these images are in line with many rumors that we're heard about Apple's upcoming devices, there's no way to verify their authenticity. They could very well be from a clone device or a dummy device created based on the iPhone 8 design leaks and rumors that have circulated.

Even if fake, these panels are based on supply chain information and rumors and do perhaps provide an idea of what actual iPhone 8 components might look like. Still, it's best to view these leaks with some skepticism until we begin to see more part leaks to corroborate the design.

lookin mighty good if true... I may actually switch to iphone this year (after being a lifetime android perdon)

so they're using a metal ring around the flash so it doesn't produce glare? I remember people asking about why they would put the flash under the glass, but I guess that's how they'll get around that

anyways, glad there's no rear touch id

unless the apple logo is the touch id sensor then yes it looks like it is embedded in the screen.
The logo looks solid, you can tell as the table/paper below has lines which aren't coming through. Looks like they figured it out, which is amazing.

'Wireless' charging is a big game changer for me. Been using iPhones for 5 years and really glad it's finally coming to the iPhone.

Front facing touch ID embedded into the screen will make this phone be on some iPhone 4 revolutionary next step type shit.

Will be setting my alarm for 2:57am to wake up and preorder this one. Can't wait.

I wonder if they'll keeps the status bar down below the speaker and front camera, and use the space at the side for some dedicated function, maybe bump the back button up there.

I was about to get a 7 Plus, but I think ill wait a little longer for this. Although I'm not on a contract and refuse to go on one, and this will probably be $1500 in Canada.

They are definitely status bars areas. Lines up with the return of signal bars in iOS 11 and the removal of the circles. The bars take up less space.

Looking really good. The speaker+camera "lip" is sort of weird, but I'd rather have that than a top bezel (or a thicker top and bottom bezel for symmetry). I'm sure people will complain about the it regardless of anything. I wonder if Apple will have a customized version of iOS 11 to take advantage of the top left and right sides of the screen. Also, they will need a true "dark mode" and not just a "Smart Invert" mode like in the Beta.

But where does the time go?
I wouldn't be surprised if they ditched it or ditched the graphical display for the battery and just made it so the numbers change color when at 100% and 20%, having both is redundant and numbers are more accurate. The extra space could allow for the clock.

I don't get the bezel-lip thing at the top.

Wouldn't that cause those two top corners of the screen on either side to be useless when you want a full-screen mode?

Won't everything just "letterbox" them out?

I love that design. I hope they got the Touch ID sensor imbedded into the screen. I might get the S version of this in 2018 since I already got the 7 Plus and don't have money to throw away.

Not if they are dedicated status areas. Right now, the top part of iOS is a bar when using iOS stock apps like safari. They may take that area by default on all apps now.

I get the lack of bezel and on screen biometrics but I'm officially over phones except as accessories to my car. Wake me when it's oled on rollable carbon nanotubes. (seriously a flat flexible phone is my dream phone)

No idea subjectively why this would be a meaningful form factor improvement. It will surely be elegant though I guess. What's rumored beyond bio/ergonomics and aesthetic?

what about the location services icon, Bluetooth icon, and carrier name? I don't see how these are still displayed unless the status bar becomes two lines, one on either side of the cutout and one underneath.

Yeah, stuff is going away but keep in mind there is a lot of real estate up there. If you look on an iPhone 7, the signal, carrier and wifi symbols all fit before the camera dot. They are guaranteed space if they go back to bars. Further, ditch the carrier and you have TONS of room to play with.

I think the following will be gone:
- circle signal indicators
- carrier name
- time
- battery image display

What is gong to be there:
- Signal bars
- Wifi/LTE indicator
- alarm on icon
- rotation icon
- Bluetooth/wireless headphone indicator
- Battery indicator (%)

And of course, "back to" and "forward to" remove all icons just like now.

I think the top lip would look better if they made the signal and battery part of the screen always white text/icons on black background

Tough for me to pass up a brand new OLED Iphone. I'll hate my self for getting it, because new apple devices are highway robbery, but older models are frequently also rough on the wallet. Just tough to ever leave the smoothness of IOS. It would be cheaper to stop being an Apple person, god knows their shit is expensive. Only time I didn't go apple was with SuperAmoled tabs to read comics on.

Yeah, just one of those times have to bite the bullet and pay. The main drawback to iphones has been how much worse an LCD screen is compared to an OLED one. Although, OLED lifespans are pretty crap, and you always have potential burn problems. But, OLED is just beautiful. This should be a really nice phone, even though other phones have had OLED for years now.

And you know Apple will market OLED as a big deal and like it's new. It is new for them, and it is a big deal, but it's just funny how they will act like its a brand new tech or innovation that didn't exist until now.

The S8+ is fucking incredible. I can't recommend it enough.

I deploy iPhones at work and you'd have to pay me to use one personally. iOS isn't a walled garden, it's a prison.

You're better off sticking to Android unless the IPhone 8 makes you breakfast in the morning and does your laundry (or actually has a decent screen / resolution for once, lol).

Not everyone wants to tinker around with their mobile devices all the time 🙄

As long as Apple continues to implement easy and worthwhile features, I’m in.
