Altus North American President steps down

Good thing the exit is right there. >_>

In the context of this topic that seriously made me laugh.

I hope the new guy can help turn things around for them, stop publishing complete shit like the last crusade and game of thrones, stop staff acting like dicks on their forums and stop shit like the persona 4 arena region lock from happening again. Considering he's coming from index corp my hopes for these arent too high though

It'll be interesting to see what happens. From all I've heard, Index is a horrible parent company.
Do tell. Seriously, do tell. Now I'm really getting worried.
Maybe their games would read better if he did.
Is their font choice worse than Atlus'? Unless you mean the actual wording of the text, in which case maybe H.Protagonist will come defend her work.

Talking about editing.
I would certainly love to hear someone defend the sterilization of Ys 7's original personality.

I really hope this isn't a sign of things to come. It would be shame if Index went and destroyed all of the goodwill Atlus has built up with their faithfuls over the years.

For all we know, they could have been affecting Atlus USA since 2006 when Index Holdings acquired Atlus.

Hmm... 2006? Darn, if it had been a year earlier, I could blame Index for Anime Dating Sim 3: Robots Are Moe~ And Death Is Sad And Stuff But Sometimes You Need To Put Your Life On The Line And Fight For What You Believe In.

You'll just have to blame Japanese (pop) culture for that one.

Region-locked Persona 4 Arena, Engrish dub... I could only imagine the apocalypse is not too far away.

Was the president in charge of deciding how many copies of the catherine love is over LE were printed? (as that is my biggest current beef with atlus america right now)

either way, I am not really sad to see some changes going on with atlus, in general I have been somewhat annoyed with the american branch given they repeatedly keep giving wonderful bonuses to games they just got rights to publish (game of thrones, king of fighters for example) and offer pretty much nothing for the Megaten games (devil survivor overclocked, Devil survivor 2 for example really I can't recall any of their recent JRPG/SRPG getting a nice bonus from them recently)

Indeed, the last good bonus for an Atlus game was the full soundtrack for Persona PSP. I take that back, the artbook for Etrian Odyssey III was pretty nice. I rather dislike the partial soundtrack trend, though. I know it's because of corporate bullshit, but they didn't even include the soundtrack for Persona 3 Portable. The fucking thing was ten songs long. :|

You are mad that it is not limited?

absolutely. Their original ad for the love is over edition said it would only be made to perorder demand and would be very limited... here we are a year later and it's in stock at amazon for $50 (sold by amazon) still. I really can't help but feeling like I was lied to when I preordered the love is over edition. I actually thought it would be limited given their ad. Had I known that it would be in stock for over a year I would have waited for a sale as honestly I wasn't all that impressed with the LE, but previous atlus LE were actually limited, sold out quickly, and became super expensive to buy, so I thought it was preorder or not get one and since my wife was interested I preordered it.

I may be weird, but I actually like my LE to be (limited)rare and maintain their value.

even then game of thrones got a nice hard cover art book if I recall right. and king of fighters had what a 4 disk soundtrack.. why can't their JRPGs get some love like that @_@

Of all the things... this is yours?

for Atlus America yeah... I've always had major issues with companies blatantly lying to me.
there is a completely different list for Japan.

So what does this mean exactly?

More Naruto-Index games, less everything else? Persona 4 and 3 fans obviously should not worry, their 434535 versions of P3 and 4 will make it oversea. But at this point i'm afraid we can say goodbye to our EP PSP NA version.

Don't say that! :<
Because people were so understanding when they cleared up the P4A thing!

^ Case in point
The PR for the Persona 4 Arena situation was bullshit, it's all bullshit. That's just how PR works.

If We don't get EP I will never forgive Atlus. :'(

Oh, I read into that they just wanted to maximize profits on a dual language game due to exchange rates. Not a big deal for me so much and it helps their business, right?

They cited yen to dollar exchange rates specifically. So yeah, they could solve that by region locking...

But when considering that the hubbub mostly centered around the EU players who would be screwed in the grand scheme of things, how does that PR line answer anything as applied to them? (especially since they could have attained the very same goal by allowing NA and EU players to play, but not JPN players)

I would have to see some cold hard data before I believe reverse importation really affects them that much.

to be fair the same sort of thing is going on with the persona 4 anime where the blu ray is not going to have Japanese just English while the dvd version will have dual audio due to fears that the Japanese will just import the Blurays from America instead of buying them in Japan.

It's silly, and I highly doubt that it is nearly as big of an issue as they would like to make it seem, but it seems to be the current Japanese way of thinking towards things that share their region code.

Shitty character designs.

I believe that is their reason, I just think it's unfounded for them to believe that.

Yeah I get what you are saying, but I think they were worried about this ludicrous situation:

I operate several proprietorships or an online retailer in Japan/EU and it's cheaper for me to import and sell the NA version in mass quantity to the JP/EU audience, it's good for my business to do so if the games are identical and released at the same time.

Atlus inhibits this by staggering the release dates and region locking so my scheme cannot work.
