Am I the only person who enjoys licorice?

Just remembered I had some of these:

None of my friends like licorice. In fact, they are disgusted by it. I don't understand it. Licorice is tasty.

It's pretty cool because people usually give me their black gumdrops or whatever.

When I say licorice, I mean the legit black stuff. None of that strawberrry Twizzler crap.

The only person I know other than myself who likes it is my mother. It's actually kind of cool, imported German candies make a pretty good holiday gift for her.

Anyone on GAF a fan of licorice?

Real licorice is basically a drug - it has all these unusual interactions since it is uncommon in most diets.

I wish I could but I can't do black licorice. I can't do anything that's been flavored with Anise. It's by far my least favorite spice.

Now this Australian licorice I've been seeing pop up in the states is pretty fucked tasty.

Red Vines > Twizzlers :P

What's Australian licorice?

While I am not crazy about it, I kind of like to eat some licorice candy. I'm kind of fine after eating just one, though. I like 'em sweet, super salty, or sour. What I can't stand is any licorice-esque flavors in a meal, though. I can't stand any food that tastes of anise.

If its not black its not licorice, period. Licorice flavor is same as black licorice. That red stuff is just candy.

I fucking love it.

It's been a bit of a problem during Candy Swaps for me to find candy that isn't or doesn't contain black liquorice here. It's like part of a stable diet, and rightfully so.

Black liquorice ice cream is heavenly (salted liquorice ice cream even more so)

I like liquorice (proper liquorice, not that red stuff) quite a bit, unfortunately it's pretty rare around here.

And why do people keep mentioning anise? Liquorice tastes nothing like anise.

Haven't eaten Black Licorice since I tried it in day care and threw-up. Was probably right around 20 years ago and I still remember it clear as day.

(I seem to remember we were making some kind of candy/peanut-butter+celery creature with the black licorice as antennae.)

I like black liquorice, though only in moderation.

I adore anise-flavored liquor/liqueurs. Ouzo, absinthe, pernod, sambuca, etc. Fucking delicious.

Anise, fennel, and liquorice all have very similar flavors. I don't know how you can't notice that.

Red licorice is delicious.

Black licorice I don't like. I remember trying it for the first time 1 year ago and once I put it in my mouth, I headed straight for the nearest trash can. It didn't taste all that good to me but I can't remember the exact taste, just that it wasn't good.

I like it a lot. I don't think it's vegetarian though which is the logic I've used to not eat it for a long time now. Black licorice the the SHIT

Not fond of the black, but I've had one or two phases where I craved it for a bit. I can't explain why. Normally I would not buy it, ever.

Why does it only come in red and black? I'd be up for trying more flavors

While not real licorice, I do love red vines.

during an internship in London, another intern from Denmark brought a bowl of (salty) licorice to a meeting. Apparently none of the english folks had ever seen it before and thought it was the usual sweets.
Their faces were priceless.

I don't love it, but good licorice can be a nice change from usual candy.

I'm quite partial to these:

Don't care for led licorice one bit. Doesn't taste like licorice at all.

Yeah basically. I'll admit as a kid i only ate the red crap, but once I had the Panda licorce that someone posted, I never went back.

I also love dropje. and the scandanavin ones as well.

I think there is nothing you can buy in the sweets section of a supermarket that I detest more than licorice. Eww.

That honestly can't be right. I've just opened a pack of Ramzy Al-Assel liquorice extract and yup, no hint of anise, fennel etc. Just bitter, then sweet (with a 'woody' aftertaste), like I remember it.

Fake edit: Ahh, right, just checked wiki. It appears confectioners routinely put aniseed oil in liquorice sweets. This is where the 'anise-flavoured' bit comes from.

I thought everyone loved licorice until I read this thread. The world was a better place before I gained this knowledge.
