Am I weird for not liking celery?

I love it. Raw it's wonderfully crisp and makes a great texture to go with various dips (ranch, hummus, whatever). Cooked it has a nice flavour and is part of the reason holy trinities like mirepoix work so well.

My only issue comes with particularly strong tasting celery and eating it raw - it can occasionally have a very bitter flavour, and like strong onions that stuff is better used to add flavour to a soup or stew, not eaten raw.

Why would you grill celery? What purpose does it serve!?

Plenty of veggies taste great grilled. Broccoli, carrots, celery, peppers, onions, and zucchini.

And yes, even salad tastes incredible when grilled, provided you're using the right kind.

Ants on a log! Brings me back to kindergarten.

All those things except Celery taste great raw, grilled, steamed, fried etc. Celery taste like expired water if thats even a thing.

It's useful for absolutely nothing but adding texture to other foods, like peanut butter. It has no taste and as far as I'm aware virtually no nutritional value. Like someone else said it's basically crunchy water.

Although it seems like something that may be a good source of fiber, so there's that. I hate how it can end up getting really 'stringy' and difficult to chew, though.

I hate celery. Sometimes I decide to give it another chance, thinking that my taste buds might have changed since I last tried it, and I end up being revolted every single time. I don't understand how anyone can find the taste of it pleasing.

To the people saying it tastes bland - you sure you aren't confusing it with iceberg lettuce? Lol. The celery that I've tasted has a very strong taste.

Every time I tell someone I hate celery, they look at me weird. Always telling me it tastes nothing. Well it does to me, and I hate it. Literally, I get gag reflexes every time I try to swallow a bite.

There's ways I can tolerate it, like in small pieces that I can smash with my tongue when it's in a soup, but if I have to bite into it or the piece is too big, I literally can't handle it.

The fact that my mom caught up on that and used it as a way to punish me as a kid by having me eat a foot of it didn't help.

EDIT: Damn it, wrong forum.

I feel the same way as you. I hate everything about celery. The taste, smell and texture. People think I'm being a baby but it's awful. It's the only hated food from my childhood that I never grew to tolerate.

Maybe there's a genetic basis for how it tastes unpleasant in this case, like with cilantro.

Pretty sure i can tell the difference between a expired water stick and a ball of grass.

I too dislike celery. I don't think it's bland though, I actively dislike the taste of it.

Put some peanut butter on it, good stuff. I don't mind it myself, fairly flavorless alone but good to crunch on.

I'd rather just eat a spoonful of peanut butter.

Celery and cucumber are both fucking foul and ruin anything they touch.
I would agree with you there... but I love pickles. So cucumbers have their place.

Celery absolutely has a taste for me. And it is delicious. Sometimes you get a lovely bunch of almost spicy, peppery stalks.

I regularly chop up a couple of stalks as an ingredient for a stir fry.

I can get people not liking it ... taste is highly subjective.

For people that absolutely loathe it and question the reasons for its very existence ... you're weird.

Not because you have different tastes, but because it's a very mild flavor and is mostly just water. Having that much hatred for something so subtle when there are tons of strong foods out there is just really odd.

I love most vegetables & fruits including celery, there are only 2 things from the fruit & vegetable family that i truly hate with a passion. One is apricot and the other is sprouts both taste vile and make me heave when i have had to eat them.

I pray every year that the worlds sprout crops all die off and they become extinct but sady they pop up every xmas lol.

I love vegetables, but celery is one of like 2 that I really dislike. It just has a weird aftertaste.

Your weird for worrying about if liking celery is weird or not. Personally, i find people who like celery more weirder than people who dont like it. Even the name "celery" is kind of weird. Have you ever looked closely at a person eating celery ? They look weird.
