My guess would be middle east, maybe syria civil war? What's going on there? Looks like a guy from Reservoir Dogs or something, seems very out of place
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Still pretty incongruous. Camo-wearing fighters and then you have this guy in a nice suit, shades on, causally holding an AK in one hand and a cigarette in the other. Idk, reminds me of a character out of a crime thrillerMy guess would be middle east, maybe syria civil war?

My personal favorite that made me really just love going to art museams. On the internet you look at it and its meh... But in real life this painting is huge and you can just feel the weight and power of this image.
Obviously it's very cliche and popular, but it really made me appreciate art

Not exactly "historical" but I saw this photoseries on my feed one day and it stopped me in my tracks. It's called "before they pass away".
This photographer travelled the world photographing secluded tribes. I thought it was such an incredible project.
One from home. Bomb disposal soldier in Northern Ireland walking towards a suspect device in Belfast.

For a bomb of it's size inside that van the soldier is already within it's kill radius.

This is the last photo taken by a serial killer right before he killed this girl. He had before this cut her hair and forced her to wear this black dress.![]()

I'm guessing security was pretty tight.
It's a rather large image but here is one of the classics in North American art:
Portrait of Dr. Samuel D. Gross (The Gross Clinic) 1875
by Thomas Eakins
Image is 4537 x 5627
I got to see this in person at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and it was awe inspiring.
At about 100 meters from the cargo bay of the space shuttle Challenger.

I just checked this out and the most striking one to me is the Asaro Mudmen.
More accurate version:
Once I found out the photo was staged (they had already hoisted the flag the previous day iirc) it disappointed me.I've always thought Raising a flag over the Reichstag is an incredible picture. The picture shows a Russian soldier hoisting the flag of the Soviet Union over the bombed-out German capital of Berlin. It's so sinister looking, but you can tell how glorious it must have been for the Soviet troops and citizens when they saw it. It symbolized the (near) end of an absolutely horrific war that Germany waged against the Soviet Union. The reason I find it especially sinister is because we know what's happening in the background of Berlin (and the other parts of Germany that the Red army captured) at that time, which is that tons of civilians were killed and up to 2 million women were raped. It was the ultimate payback for what the German army did to the Soviet population, and I feel like this picture perfectly captures the immensely dramatic and tragic climax to an immensely dramatic and tragic war.
This is a photo taken by a British war photographer in 1917 of the trench warfare in World War I. From the comments on reddit, I learned that those streaks of light are not artillery (which I had previously thought), but are from huge flares that the armies would shoot into the night sky so they could see enemy troop movements. Awesome picture of an absolutely dreadful time and place in history.
