Another great example of a reboot but NOT an origin story is Batman '89.

It can be done... At this point, it's just lazy to fill up screen time with origin again.
Took all of five minutes or so though. This does not seem to be the case with Spider-Man 2012.

This is a very good example. This was the very first Batman movie and it still didn't see any need to patronise its audience with an origin story.

Everyone knows Spider-Man was bitten by a radioactive spider. My mum knows that and probably her mum before that.

(I know technically there was the Adam West Batman movie too, but that didn't have an origin story either.)

i'll say it again: confident on the origin being a quick and short thing in the movie; overexposure in this teaser cause they dont wanna show much, its a teaser.

Interesting.

The film is the first Hollywood production to be filmed with the RED Epic camera, and is being shot in 3-D at 5K resolution.

Fair enough. I'm actually not too hyped for this. I just don't mind them doing an origin story, especially if they are going to be taking a different tone/direction with this one.

I'll just wait and see trailer this at the cinema. I LOVED 500 Days Of Summer but I just can't get excited about this film at all. While I'm interested in the tone of the film the prospect of yet another Spiderman origin sounds dull.

But right away I know what to expect. Sony will just 'Batman Begins' the Spiderman series. Despite all the talk of this costing just $75m Sony did their usual by turning the money house on this to try and make it a 'AAA' release. I wouldn't be surprised if the final budget turns out to be $200m +!

I just don't see people chomping at the bit to see a reboot of Spiderman with The Avengers and TDR releasing in the same summer season.

But given the way modern studios are run if this turns out to be a 'one and done' like Green Lantern Sony will simply reboot again in a few years.

So the solution is simple. Destroy Columbia Pictures.

I could go on and on about this subject but give it a few years and Sony might just do that for you. When Howard Stringer steps down Sony are going to refocus and the first thing that's going to go is their media division.

In this day and age it's likely that if someone were to buy Sony's film & TV division it would another media conglomorate that would simple downsize or absorb Sony's operation into their own.

Not into CG models.
Not into Mirrors Edge cam.
Spider-Man is supposed to be campy.

Overall it gets a Meh/10.

Exactly, i really feel that is was not so long ago i saw Spiderman from 2002, i mean again the scene where gets bitten, and then again where he stands in front of the mirror. Okay, seen it before.
They better not show that sequence of the robber running past Peter backstage with the guard chasing after him, and then later him seeing Uncle Ben dying

Make a Mirrors Edge game using Spiderman.

Shit would be crazy.

I think most of you are nuts. That trailer looks immediately superior to the 2002 film, which, let's face it, was hokey and kinda of awful, not to mention dated. In fact, I'd say Spidey 1 is far more dated than, say, Burton's Batman.

While a reboot is not my idea of a 'thrilling' spidey story at this stage, it's all about the execution. I am reasonably excited about this.

That's the most iconic sequence from the character's origin, of course it's going to be in it.

I agree.

People are too quick to judge. I say wait it out a bit.

Also already seeing some nice cinematography. I'm really excited, hope it blows my expectations out the water.

She looks ugly as sin in that trailer. Bring back the red for pits' sake.
She's playing Gwen Stacy. I'm sure they don't want people confusing her with mj. The red hair would do that.

Also, she looks great.

Get outta here.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2012

Like I said... A decade is a long time.

For movie remakes? God no, its not. I don't want to see Parker being bitten (unless it is a very short flashback) for another 30 years.

I don't think a superhero franchise has ever been rebooted this fast. Imagine in three years or so they'll reboot Batman Begins.

Yeah, I don't get the point of this.

Try something new Hollywood.

Haven't they already said they are rebooting Batman as soon as Nolan finishes Rises?

Well to fair Spiderman no longer shoots web from in body anymore he's back to normal
plus few other things which is why it might be better to go with a reboot.

I wouldn't rule it out since Harry won't be around anymore for milking purposes.

I can't wait to see 20 minutes of Peter moping around in school before we get to the spider bite scene!!!

I honestly don't know how people are getting excited over this regurgitated dreck. We've already seen this movie. I actually got bored while watching the trailer until that awful POV sequence came out of nowhere and brought the funny. Gotta sell that official movie game!

HP has lots of milking potential. KOTOR-like prequels about the founders of Hogwarts, First Class-like prequels about the Marauders, and unlimited sequels about the Potter/Weasley/Malfoy offspring.

Parent flash-back, breakfast with Uncle Ben remembering some satchel, school scenes with bullies, meeting Gwen at lab, spider-bite, Uncle Ben death, wrestling or not using the powers to blame, great responsibility blah blah blah. Theres too much there already, in snippets, to not make at least half an hour/an hour of this film be all origin.

Spider-Man 2, if I remember correctly, showed the previous film in it's opening credits. They coulda done that, just photo stills of new actor Garfield doing all the origin stuff. EVERYBODY knows this shit. To waste half a movie on it is madness. Much less the emo vibe their going for and Garfield seemingly using his most monotone voice. Peter is a wacky guy! He jokes ALL OF THE TIME.

Make a film in the vein of this series please.

Yessss. Just hits the ground running "Yo, I'm Spider-Man. wheeeeeeeee~", If drooling saturday morning kids who legitimately may have never heard of Spider-Man can deal with that, the movie going public almost certainly can. Grrrrrr!

Next Batman trilogy is planned for 2015.

Isn't this based off ultimate Spiderman? All o know about it is the orgin story is different.
Ultimate and 616 share various elements about Spiderman's origin, the main differences tho are-
1- He got bit in one of Osborn's labs (Oscorp).
2- Osborn was trying to create a Super Soldier Serum like the one that made Captain America. His ver. would be called Oz.
3- Spiders were test animals and one of them had Oz in it.
IMO The differences aren't that big in those regards, but it does set up for future stories and events.

Hmm wonder what Peter's parents' role in this new movie gonna be? They won't be spies will they?

Here's another DL link in case the YT video is deleted-

That idea makes too much sense, therefore it's terrible.

Batman reboot was 8 years

Hulk reboot was 5 years

Spidey reboot was 10 years

Yeah but to be fair, there is a huge difference between the Batman reboots. I really feel this just looks like more of the same, except a bit darker.

Then again, guess we'll have to wait to see the entire film before judging all.

Peters parents died in a plane crash. in this film
they are secret agents who die in a plane crash or something

Brush up on your spider man

Amazing Spider-Man Annual #5, 1968

The Finisher was a longtime employee of the Red Skull, and was there when the Skull found out that Richard Parker, who he thought was his own spy, was actually an American double-agent! After finding this out, the Skull ordered Parker's murder in a plane crash, and set him up so that it appeared as if he was a spy in the employ of foreign agents. The news went out that Richard and Mary Parker were traitors, but Spider-Man has just learned that they were actually heroes! And with his last words, the Finisher dies.
