The "non-asshole" thing to do is to guilt-trip someone that did nothing wrong. Gotcha.
Amazon made an honest mistake in the OP's favor, big deal, it happens sometimes. As far as Amazon's systems are concerned, one item was received. So if an attempt was made to return one copy, Amazon would end up refunding one item on top of paying return postage. So now Amazon is out that $10 plus postage to and from the receiver. By trying to do the right thing, it would end up costing Amazon more money.
No, people are calling him a thief and an asshole. He clearly has a guilty conscience; hence the moral question/thread. I'd recommend finding a kid who would really appreciate it. I'm sure it would make someone's Christmas.
