The story and characters are pretty well done. It's just the gameplay sucks, and the graphics/animation is dated. So it depends on whether you can overlook bad gameplay.

Well, the way I see it, is that as a game it is pretty awful. There's a bit of tedium in navigation, the combat is atrocious, you basically have to get the quick travel and some infinite ammo weapons ASAP.

The experience, however, is easily one of the best of the generation. My enjoyment of the game is genuine, even though its budget shows.

Here’s my advice: Buy the game to support the publisher/developer. They’re one of the few who know that it’d be ridiculous to charge full price ($60) for that game and released it at a low price point.

Try playing the game and if you don’t like it, just watch a Let’s Play on YouTube or something. The best one is probably the one supergreatfriend did. Don’t force yourself to like the game (there’s a lot to hate if you’re playing it yourself) but try to watch a LP if you really don’t want to play it anymore. The story is amazing.

DP was definitely one of my favorite games this gen (only Dark Souls, Demon Souls, and Galaxy 2 were better IMO). Somehow I loved this pile of

, from start to finish, and except for the chase scenes, it never seemed to dip in quality. Sure, the combat sucked until you got the infinity items (specifically the wrench), and driving was a nightmare (

It's a terrible game in terms of the actual combat and the game isn't a looker.

However the story has some quirky charm, the town itself is surprisingly well done, and the there are some pretty fun mini-games. Flawed gem sounds about right, especially for the people that miss the old RE games.

My game of the generation so far. It's such a unique experience. You start out thinking, wow this is pretty terrible, and by the end you think it's a masterpiece.

I played through it 3 times to get all the cheeves, and I still occasionally feel like playing it again.

It has "EXCELLENT" story and characters, but aside from that it is one of the worst games I've played this generation.

Watching all of cutscenes and car conversations(or a "LP") on YouTube is free and legal(?), consider it.

I genuinely like Deadly Premonition, I got it expecting to laugh at it and what I ended up with was the freeroam game I wanted Alan Wake to be. Except made by crazy people.

The action sequences are pretty crap but they aren't unbearable.
