Amazon no longer selling Versus XIII?

Final Fantasy XVersus?

You say SE fans and not Sorny fans. I thought Sony was aiding in the development of XV.

What I gather from his post is him not confirming one way or another if Sony is involved despite evidence pointing to it. Probably just him not revealing all that he knows.

I guess we'll see at E3. Prophetic words or empty promises.

"Please be excited" still kills me. That was one of the saddest moments I've ever seen during a conference. Like why even bother showing up? You came with the same trailer from a couple years ago. Go home.

If you had asked me in 2006, I would have expected Kingdom Hearts 3, Final Fantasy Versus XIII and maybe even a brand new mainline Final Fantasy game would have been released by now. In addition to the sequel to Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XI.

I honestly don't give a shit what they show at E3 anymore. You had 7 years to deliver on something, why should I get excited about what they show now? They could show off another fancy new Final Fantasy trailer right before a console is released and then the generation console generation could pass by without it materializing. It's just bad business. It would be like a movie studio showing a film trailer in 2005 and still not have it released by 2012. People just stop caring.

And I understand that making these games is a huge undertaking. But your entire job, how your company is supposed to make money is on games. Not releasing them just drops the entire brand.

Hey Verendus, I'm not sure if you're allowed to answer this but here goes; PS1 era Square was putting out groundbreaking sequels to its core franchises but also invested heavily in a number of new, experimental projects (Parasite Eve, Musashi, Vagrant Story, etc...). Do you feel that we'll see more of that from S-E in the upcoming generation, or are they more focused on getting Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts back on track?

People really overestimate how much the extended development hurts public perception. Virtually no one knows what Versus is, and none of the people that do will write it off for having not shipped in a timely fashion.

It's like when people used to say it was too late to change it's name, as if there'd be any market confusion at all.

Which is why I believe the game will no longer be called Versus. It will benefit more from a mainline title name.

All right guys! It looks like its all or nothing. All aboard the Versus Hype Train!!!! Choo, Choo!!! Taking passengers now!!

Final Fantasy Versus XIII 2011 Trailer

Still such a great trailer after 2 1/2 years.

Is there some other 'please be excited' that happened before the one this year?

0. Microsoft doesn't give two shits about Japan anymore, so they wouldn't bother trying acquire a title that would only really appeal to the Japanese and weaboos.

That's a joke right? Not sure. Final Fantasy has always appealed to more than weaboos and Japanese people, there's a reason it sells Millions. I'm hoping Versus will bring back the quality from my childhood.

Anyway I can't wait to see Versus at E3.

FFXIII: Felt like a really restricted corridor game with crappy characters and confusing yet somehow boring story, it's everything I didn't want in a FF.

FF Versus: Looks like it will have everything I want plus more if they keep to their plans, a great feeling of freedom. Cars, airships, amazing atmosphere, interesting looking characters, great soundtrack, modern day style city, action rpg etc.
And if the rumour is true about it being on PS4, then even more reason to get hyped!

I agree fully with Verendus' assessment. Inept management has lead to SE being forced to focus on so few titles and agitate fans. While I still attest that despite its show comings from its troubled development, FF13 did turn out to be a beautiful game, with a great battle system and jaw dropping scenery. If the game had better management, I am sure some of the story and linearity would have been addressed. Even still, the game is still an example of art over adversity. What could have been, could have been but the product is still an above average RPG.

14 though was the height of their mismanagement. I played that game from beta and the game never got better despite the tons of concerns from beta testers and reporters. I remember when they announced the street date of the game and everyone was stunned that a game that was clearly not ready was going to ship so quickly. The catastrophic failure and horrendous thinking (see Tanaka's 'vision' of the game to see why) were the true cause of SE's shakeup and now in hindsight, it was a necessary push.

And because of FFXIV many of SE's titles were pushed back so they can fix this mess. I'm actually looking forward to FFXIV: ARR on the PS3. Pre-ordered that Collectors Edition :)

It also caused the end of Tanaka and Wada's influence in the company, and it is not hard to see that too many of their ideas were just not profitable or popular in this day and age. I know everyone just hates Toriyama but I do not see him losing his role in the company over the FF13 saga, which SE has themselves considered a great success to this point (and hey, 6 combined million sales is not THAT terrible for a profit company). SE should probably allowing him to make his own IPs for the JP market since his games seem to appeal best there.

The CG is incredible. I think it's better than Avatar.

Visual Works are technical geniuses and are the best at their craft. I look forward to the CG in the game. Especially towards the end because that's when, in Final Fantasy games, the CG gets crazy and super realistic at points.

E3 feels so far away but in reality I am only a week away from picking up my badge. So excited to see this game.

Edit:

don't know why everybody is so excited about this. lately storytelling for final fantasy and kingdom hearts sucks. barley made it through kingdom hearts birth by sleep, piece of crap.

I am sorry what? Birth by Sleep is an amazing game with fantastic characters and scenario directing. Never heard a person call BbS a "piece of crap".

I really love this gif and want to know what happens next (if that scene is still part of the story):

It looks like they're being forced to fight since they ARE actual enemies. Well their families. Right? I could have sworn I read that somewhere, but I could obviously be totally off.

Different writers, different team. Great trailers, amazing atmosphere. And if they stick to their plans, airships, modern city, towns, cars, action rpg, great sountrack, amazing CG etc Not to mention everything else we don't know about.

Why wouldn't we get excited?

Yeah, I think it's something like that. Like they really don't want to fight, but they have to - it'd make for an interesting battle. I just hope it remains in the game.
