Amazon no longer selling Versus XIII?

Flying an airship over the game world is going to be amazing.

That would be pretty neat.

I'm curious to see this monorail in LR too honestly. It can supposedly go around the whole world and you can look out the windows.

Part of me thinks they scrapped the little bit of Versus they had done in 2010 and used it for LR so they could start over Versus on PS4. All we saw of Versus was a forest area and a desert area. Those are the two main outdoor areas in LR. Who knows though.

The end of XIII-2 is very similar to part of the last Versus trailer.

And the main city area as well.

I sincerely hope Versus XIII is not going to lose the branding, but that's almost impossible at this moment. At least I hope it just gets renamed Versus because that's the way I came to know it. Also, I love FNC and considering the only games in this mithos I played are XIII games, I'd like Versus to stick with it in the hope that also Agito will come one day.

Are you saying you have only played the XIII games? If this is true, then go play the previous FF's ASAP!

Also if this is true....now it all makes sense haha. ;)

I'll never get why a bunch of people who started the FF series with VII always grill other people about when they started playing.

I started on the first one on NES. If I ignored all the people who started with VII, I'd be ignoring most of the people in this thread.

People need to just let that whole thing go. Lots of people start on different entries. It doesn't really matter.

Hell, if I ignored all the people who skipped FFXI, I'd be ignoring even more people. You can tell who skipped XI, because they worship XII like it's this super new thing.

So fill me in on this.. this is now coming for next gen/Ps4? Using Luminous? Or is it still Ps3?

Probably not luminous. Last we've heard it's a custom engine using a hybrid of Crystal Tools stuff and Luminous lightning tech. No one will know what system it's on for another 8 days. It's widely speculated that it's PS4, but no one knows. Could be PS3. Could be PS3/PS4.

Yep. I can't wait to see that running on 7GB of RAM.

Would they even be able to take advantage of the 7GB of RAM? I'm sure they announced the 8GB of GDDR RAM at the conference and many devs knew nothing about it.

If "Versus" did transition to PS4 that would have been during 2012 right?

You're right that it probably wouldn't take full advantage of the 7GB of RAM.

According to VGLeaks that transition happened in 2011.

There's plenty of time to take advantage of it. The game probably won't be out until 2014.
Forgot that this will likely be a 2014 title.

between Final Fantasy XIII Versus, The Last Guardian, and Dr. Dre's "Detox" album....I have no idea which we will see released first. lol

Nothing major could change though right? I'm not very tech savvy in these sorts of areas.

Given what we know and speculate about "Versus". From the PS4 reveal to say 2014 when we assume the game would release. What could be changed with the added RAM. A texture quality bump?

Sony are apparently co-developing, so presumably the team would have been in the loop on the possibility of the RAM bump for a while, and it's rumoured to be shipping later next year. It should be plenty of time to really take advantage of it.

The game is still in development.

Versus' battle system is going to be a sort of prototype for KH3? Would it be using the same Crystal Tools engine Versus is supposed to be using?

I'm not really grilling him, just saying his praise for FFXIII makes a bit more sense if this is the case.

Also starting from FFVII is still a LOT more final fantasy and a lot more variety than just playing XIII, XIII-2.

It's different when you act like XIII is the best FF ever when you haven't got anything to compare it to lol.

Anyway I was telling him to play the previous ones, for his own good as a FF fan, it's a goldmine of great games why miss out on the fun?

Still he must have played previous FF's, his avatar seems to suggest it.

One of the best FF in the whole series really. Music, story, mythology, battle system, expansiveness of the environments - all pretty much top tier for the series.

Totally agree. I played FFXI for like 5~6 years or so and it was a blast. Fantastic lore, world, environments, characters, and story... They should make a singleplayer version of FFXI. :P

About Versus - I cannot wait to be able to fly an airship around again manually. Oh how I've missed doing that.

I think even some Naughty Dog devs said they didn't know it was above 4 GB until the conference.

What? Where did you hear that?? As far as I know, V13 is supposed to be using a "modified" build of Crystal Tools with the help of Luminous for the lighting.

September 2011 interview:

the game uses a game specific engine that’s utilized for action. Luminous Engine has been added to this as well. Nomura says that Luminous itself is a very strong engine that can be used in any game. The engine for FINAL FANTASY Versus XIII has strengths in certain areas, but cannot be used as a general engine.

I'm expecting this game to play kind of like Dragon Quest VIII when it comes to the world map. For those who haven't played it, think the same world map concept as the PS1 FF games, but the environments are to scale with your character and much more detailed, like in those Versus gifs. The thing that is of most interest to me is how they will handle flying over the map in an airship. Dragon Quest VIII did this by transitioning you to a "flying mode," where the map became much less detailed and only the more prominent features were represented (http://youtu.be/NyCK_cI9Bro?t=8m55s), kind of like a PS1 FF map. When you land, you are transitioned to the more detailed world map (via a loading screen), and are snapped to a predefined location that is closest to the point you chose to land on. While it works, it's far from seamless, and it can be frustrating when you can't land exactly where you want to. If Versus can pull off a seamless approach to this (as has been hinted at in a few interviews), I think we could have something pretty spectacular.

Perhaps my devotion to the game is why, as Shinta eluded to, that I do not hold FF 12 in that high of an esteem.

Yeah, this may be why I do not find FFXII to be the amazing game that some people do. I was heavily into FFXI at the time XII came out, and I dunno... FFXII felt like a worse version of FFXI to me. I do want to replay FFXII to see if my feelings have changed about it since the game released.

Well if cross-generation then the game will obviously be developed with PS3 limitations in mind.

Really hoping it is PS4 exclusive for that reason.

I hope it is too. But if it is cross-platform, XIV sure looks nice on PC. That's pretty much what a PS4 version of XIV would be.

Pretty much exactly how I feel. I think it was worth a shot to try it as a single player game, but it loses a lot in that transition. I've been waiting for an HD re-release to replay it.

So is it taking 7 years to develop DQVIII/WA5/Xenoblade in HD? Nice.

No launch games will take advantage of 7 GBs of Ram. Why? Because it happened recently. Secondly, even the most demanding PC games take up about 4 gigs total (both DDR3 and GDDR5 combined).

7 GB's is for the future. Probably third gen PS4 titles

The game hasn't been in development for 7 years. If I'm not wrong actually development didn't begin until 2009.

This just seems like one of those cases where the publisher announced the game with a trailer far, far to early then they should have.

Xenoblade didn't have a world map. It was more like FFX or FFXII in that it had a bunch of discrete areas that were connected at points/accessible through menu selection. Xenoblade's areas tended to be a little wider than FFX's or FFXII's, but the concept was the same.

I don't think being exclusive is a big deal in terms of visual quality. BF3 is shockingly different on PC to PS3.
I think the case with BF3 is the exception and not the rule.

If Versus (XV) is cross-gen, then I'd expect the PS3 version to be 720p/30fps and the PS4 version to be 1080p/30fps with increased draw distances and improved textures here and there.
