Amazon tablets HD 7&8 any good? some questions

Just bought a HD7 and the same day it arrives they had it reduced in price...

I've contacted them hoping for a refund of the difference, amazon should as they are usually good at this stuff.

Now I've decided to sell the 7 to family and once I get the refund buy the 8.

However, as I've just discovered playing around with the 7 that you can't download whatsapp. What other apps does amazon block on their tablets from their app store that I should know of?

Considering buying a normal android one if they block a lot of shit.

I think they are fine for kids, casual web browsing, or just as an ereader but I wouldn't use one over an iPad for instance. I had one in the past (gift) but the lack of apps and app updates compared to a regular Android tablet or iPad turned me off. You can sideload apps of course but some apps acted weird with that custom UI. It's been some years though since I had one so maybe things have changed since then.

Have not used one. But I think it is pretty easy to get the Google Play Store on it. So you can access more Apps.

There are guides that will show you how to install the Play Store.

I have the HD 8 and I use it for web browsing and some gaming. For the price it is fine but it can be a bit slow. The next time the Galaxy Tab S2 is $200 I'll probably get one.

One word of caution: the screens are easy to break. I set my HD 8 down on my desk a little hard and the screen cracked. I've dropped our iPad and my phone numerous times and never broken a screen.

I got an HD8 primarily for web browsing and playing mobile games. It's perfect for both.

All i'll be using it for is whatsapp, facebook messenger, browsing while watching something or playing none tablet games. I do like the fact that it is also a kindle reader and quite cheap. Although this 7in size is small.

You can probably side load Android WhatsApp

whats side loading. Just downloading google play and downloading it from there?

I believe I used a thrid party app to do it when I had mine, and eventually most of my Apps were Android native. I think I did it to get GTA. Someone else better informed can tell you, but it was very easy.

I got an HD 8 in the Prime Day sale, and so far I love it. Primarily I use it for browsing social media, the web, and e-mail, as well as for taking notes and work, and some basic emulation with my 8Bitdo Bluetooth controllers. As stated, the Amazon apps kind of suck ass, but it's super simple to install the Google Playstore, which opens you up to a ton more options. I've got Retroarch installed on mine and it can play most SNES games flawlessly, I love it.

Get a nuvision windows tablet. It's fucking awesome and it's $80.

Oh wow. Just ordered one for my daughter. Got the 10.1 inch with the included keyboard, $100 off right now with free same day shipping. What a time to be alive etc.

I don't use what's app but not sure I've hit a non compatible app after installing the Google play store. They're fine for the price but can be sluggish and such since they're like 1/5 the price of other tablets.

Thing is heavy as shit, but my goodness it's faster than I expected. I just set it up for her. She gets back from camp today, she broke her iPad and was a jerk, so she lost Netflix privileges forever, but let's see how much joy productivity and art apps bring her...
