So I've been trying all day to snipe a pre-order through any online place I could and no luck. Then I noticed this on Walmart's website (only for the Grey Switch):

Nintendo Switch Gaming Console with Gray Joy-Con (Visit your local store to pre-order today)

So I called the store and after some confusion they told me that they were indeed taking pre-orders but only in store at the customer service desk (at pickup). Gentleman I was speaking with said they had just gotten new brochures for how to handle pre-orders and I went through the motions. This correlates with this article that was just posted on BGR https://bgr.com/2017/01/17/nintendo-switch-preorder-walmart-in-store/

I did mine and put down 10% (about $31 including tax). It says "Switch Pre-Sale" and that it's on a layaway (to be paid in full on or before 04-01-17). I called again to confirm that I would in fact be guaranteed one on day one and am waiting to hear back from a manager. For anyone else that has done this in person through Walmart, does your receipt also say "Switch Pre-Sale" and that it is a layaway item?

Wow. And all those people on GAF saying having multiple preorders is needless and rude. Gamestop is the only place I was able to preorder the neon console so fingers crossed.

I pre-ordered originally on BB but then cancelled once it came up on Amazon...really hope that wasn't a mistake! I know GS has a history of doing stuff like this, sucks for anyone affected but that's one of the many reasons I avoid them.

I've tried this option for about an hour straight yesterday to no avail. Same thing - say the red "pre-order" button on the gray one and mashed it. "Out of stock"

Kept going back and trying and eventually I was able to actually get it in cart and I thought 100% I was safe. However, after setting in my address and clicking continue to go to checkout it said something about not being able to deliver to that address. Tried a few more times and eventually it said an item that was in my cart is no longer available.

I still say best option for people right now is to walk into a Walmart and go to their pick up desk to pre-order.

I preordered a charging grip from Best Buy today as a back up, but I'm hoping a pro controller goes up and I can cancel that.

SKUs are still separate it just has an option select now for which one you want

The URL/item-ID changes when you select a different color. I think it means different skus. It also only shows me "Purchased on 13, January" when I select the grey.

As for the rumored cancellation of Switch pre-orders through GameStop, I'm not surprised at all. Anyone and I mean ANYONE that has a Switch GameStop pre-order-I can't stress enough you'd do well to secure a back up from anyone but them.

You are setting yourself for a huge let down depending on GameStop. The sooner people realize that and let the company go the way of the dinosaurs, the better.

Yep just got a call back and was told 100% mine would be reserved at launch. He said it's not a typical layaway but a special way they're doing it to pre-order.

So in that case I assume I pay the remainder when I pick it up, or should I pay it off early?

P.S. For folks upset about this thread being bumped since it's still out of stock on Amazon (and basically everywhere else), I highly recommend they visit their local Walmarts in person and go to the pick up desk to pre order. You can't do it online - only in person. Seriously, that BGR article I linked earlier specifically said that that's the only way to get them right now until further pre-orders open up. Note that you will need to put down 10% up front.

I've tried NowInStock.net to no avail, as well as other tools. This is the only legit way I've found so far. Even if a pre-order opens up by chance on something like Target it's usually already gone or just a bug since it says out of stock the second you try to add it.

I chuckled at that too, but not for the reason that folks don't want to spread the news (that's the primary purpose of GAF and this thread after all, we do it every hour of every day), but rather the idea of someone going through the hassle of sending PMs to everyone on that list for a time-critical event like that is laughable to me.
