AMAZON US Switch up

Oh cool. I guess I'll hold for a bit and see what the options look like in February.

$20 is quite the steep price though. Is there an equivalent of this protector for 3DS? I'm guessing the one I have isn't made of the same material.

There's no US equivalent (Hori brand at least). In the past, the premium screen protectors from Hori have only been released in Japan. This is the first time they've ever released a premium one outside Japan.

This one says it has a harder surface, thicker protective shield & is scratch proof compared to the cheaper version.

I'd imagine they will put the cheaper version on there any day.

Anyone planning on just camping out for a Switch as a last ditch effort?

I was thinking Best Buy, but they can be flakey with how many copies they have VS how many they're willing to sell to first come first serve buyers.

Was also thinking Toys R Us, but I think the one nearest me closed a year or so ago.

I don't want to camp out, but I'm willing to show up around 10PM for a midnight launch. It's really difficult to judge how in demand this thing is going to be. With the Wii U I showed up about 15 minutes before Best Buy opened and was like fourth in line and easily able to secure a system.

Have you tried pre ordering at Walmart in-store?

I remember doing it some days later after pre orders opened up for the Wii U and I was one of the first few on the list.

Much of a greater chance if you have a couple of Walmarts in your vicinity.

I have another feeling that the neon switch will be up today!!

yay.. another day another hope.. come on AMAZON!!

Has anyone looked at the eBay sold listings? Switch preorders are going for $500+

Ebay doesn't let you do presales over 30 days, so they might run into trouble with the buyer...

Yeah I was trying to search for a youtube review of their previous Japan-only premium stuff but can't find any. Guess I'll wait and see whether anyone does any impressions on these and see if it's worth it.

Bummed that some people managed multiple pre-orders and I couldn't even get in one.

Was the Playstation 4 and Xbox One pre-order period this ridiculous?

Someone prolly coming up with a plan right now due to you subtly mentioning you have 2 lmao

Got one from Amazon but then pre-ordered at Gamestop to cover my bases once I found out I have that Friday off due to my work schedule.

I want to pick it up at midnight and my friend's birthday is that Sunday so I figured it'd be a hell of a gift.

Amazon doesn't deliver to my house until late at night and I might put on a Switch launch party get together with friends to catch up and try 1,2 Switch so I wanted one I could pick up in town.

Of course not, but Nintendo always does this with their self-imposed stock limits.

It really doesn't help that it's a Nintendo product. Between their infamous stock issues and the high scalper audience they attract, it's a recipe for disaster.

I helped out a NeoGAF member over at the B/S/T thread with an extra preorder I had for a pretty darn fair price. I'm not claiming I'm a saint, but $30 on top of the actual cost isn't much to ask for when considering these things are going for $450+ on other sites.

Is there a limit on how many one person can preorder?
Amazon and GameStop should have systems in place to prevent scalpers.

Pretty sure there was one on Amazon. I tried to preorder 2 in my account (one for me and one for my gf) and couldn't. Nothing that can't be worked around by having multiple accounts though.

I think there is a one per person limit everywhere (at least Best Buy, Amazon, and Gamestop if I'm not mistaken.) Doesn't prevent people from making a preorder at each retailer and having their spouse, child, and dog do the same.

even if the preorders sell out in minutes, amazon is expected to constantly keep getting more more stock until the 3rd March..right?

... right???

Best Buy had system preorders available for nearly 12 hours. I got in one right at midnight, then changed my mind on the color and ordered one at 1pm. It was the easiest Nintendo launch since gamecube.

No.

And the complaints about the preorders is a bit confusing to me.

It was fairly easy to preorder one from multiple places in the first 24 hours and there was still chances 48-72 hours after the reveal.

I think they were only shipping like 2 million for launch month. So if that's the case...maybe in April? Honestly I think if they're smart they'll just keep on doing this until Holidays of this year. See how much people want one right about now when they can't get one?

2 million does seem really low though. I think the PS4 went over a million sold through on launch day in the US alone. So this 2 million if true is a very low number.

I seriously doubt that. We already know how many units Nintendo is looking to ship, and I assume pretty much all of that has been allocated already. I think these may be impossible to get if you didn't pre-order already. At least in March.

How were digital downloads on the Wii U? I'm planning on getting BotW digitally but am having dark premonitions of it taking hours to download over Nintendo's shit-ass network.

I think it kind of depends on your connection speed. I only have 24Mb and my Wii U seems to download at almost that speed. BOTW's 18gb would likely take 2.5-3 hours for me. And that's not taking into account possible network congestion and any possible day 1 OS patch (the Wii U had one that was about 1GB.)

Either way, if you're going digital with Zelda day 1 it's probably going to be a painful wait.

Also I wonder if alot of these orders are duplicates... It seems that alot that ordered had a backup.. once people drop these expect at least some of these to drop. The problem now is that this was before alot of sites were talking about the switch ... it is now been watched by the public.. so who knows where demand goes.

Those could be fake sales. The reseller could have an alt account to bid up his auction or to make it look like he has sold the items for a lot of money already. It's just one of many shady tactics these slimeballs use to scam people.

Plus as others said, EBay doesn't allow you to sell preorders that they won't have for more than 30 days.

I have an Amazon one I can have shipped to you if you need. You've been a great gaf member and I have extra preorders I don't need.

I appreciate the offer, but it's all good, I'd rather get the red/blue model anyway. There's no urgency besides my gadget lust.

Unfortunately last week wasn't the best time for pre-orders to go up for me. I got married on January 7th and was on my honeymoon all last week, so pre-ordering a videogame console wasn't anywhere near the front of my mind. By the time I caught up with news and realized they were available, they were long gone.

I imagine a good deal of orders are people making sure they have their bases covered. I had two preorders placed for a North American Nintendo Switch just in case I'm not able to land a Japanese one when preorders open for those.

I know a couple of folks personally who have a preorder placed at Walmart, Best Buy, Amazon, and GameStop just in case stock was greatly exaggerated.

Blah. I have a 300Mb connection, but I very much doubt Nintendo will be able to saturate that bandwidth.

LOL I think he means on Nintendos side... expect the system to crash.... buying zelda digital at launch sounds a bit insane... even if so people are going all digital why not get one physical game to fit in the slot....

There is demand for this but it's mostly being inflated by the extremely limited number of pre orders Nintendo is allowing. I'd really like to compare some other stores numbers as we've had to actually cancel preorders while not even breaking 100 units. This is at one of the larger stores. We currently have 4 times the number of games preorders vs actual systems.
