Amazon's RPG sale. (PS3/PSP/DS)

If Nier wasn't on my Christmas list I would be buying it now.

Will think on Resonance of Fate and 3d Dot Game Heroes.

Is Kingdom Hearts Dumbass Fraction Days for DS any good?

Yeah SO4 get's alot of hate (and I was right there hating on it when the 360 version came out, believe me!) but the Japanese voice option actually makes the "story" bits tolerable for me.

The battle system is actually very good (the bonus board is a really smart element), the crafting and synthesis system is very deep and the game itself is absolutely huge. I'm at the last story dungeon in my play through and I've got 80 hours on the clock. And I have by no means done all the quests or extra content including the colosseum or bunny races. Or any of the post game content like the extra dungeons that open up once you've beaten the game!

If you enjoy action rpg's (like the Tales of stuff) then you would almost definitely enjoy SO4.

God damnit, I just bought FF XIII for 39.99 at best buy, and I thought I was getting a good price -_-.

Also, funny that all these other RPGs have a better price than FF XIII :0

Really? It's been under $20 numerous times recently, I'm actually surprised $19.99 isn't the MSRP by now.

It's a Kingdom Hearts game on DS. If you adjust the controls, the camera is workable and the rest of the control scheme is functional. The game is mission based (yet still linear) and can seem long and tedious, but plot wise it is one of the best (relative terms here) of the series as its bullshit is confined to the single game. It starts something and neatly wraps it up in the one chapter, and the ending is decent. I haven't played any of it but the ending sections in a long time, but I can see it being enjoyable enough as a slow burn on the side.

Only get SO4 if you are willing to skip all the cutscenes, or are ready to witness the worst story and characters ever conceived in the gaming medium. The battle system can be fun, but gets old by the end of the game.

I am dead serious. These are the worst cast of characters you will ever come across in a JRPG party. If you are aware of the quality of some of the really bad JRPG parties, and consider that this the lowest of the low, the very bottom of a very large barrel, then you have been warned.

Even the robot guy that carries shoulder missile swarms and shoots giant lasers from space ends up being an absolutely pathetic character - yes, I am aware of what I just wrote.

Prices are good. Not a fan of buying the "greatest hits" version of games though... Yeah that's right, I went there.

I have the same problem...dunno why. I do have RE5 as greatest hits, and my copy of Demon Souls went bad and I had to replace it with a GH copy. Hurt my soul...
Kind of want the art book though...which would make it my 3rd time purchasing.

I bought Resonance of Fate for $59.99 the day it came out.

I still haven't opened it.

I hate myself.

You and me both. For some reason I didn't think Sega was going to print that many copies. On the plus side, 3D Dot is ony $16 so I'm thinking of picking that up.

Final Fantasy XIII for 360 is on sale as a part of this deal for $18.99, actually. It (and Neverwinter Nights 2 Gold for PC at $14.99) just aren't mentioned in the OP.

Yeah, I know but I wanted Nier and RoF for 360.

As someone who never takes my PS3 online except to download games, demos, and patches is it worth playing Demon Souls, or will I be missing out on an essential aspect?
I would say so. You'll be missing out on the ghosts of other players, the blood stains that show their deaths, the messages they leave, and the blue helper ghosts and red invading ghosts. Those do a lot to add to differentiate the atmosphere of the game, but it's still a great game. Lonely with an oppressive atmosphere and a difficulty that punishes you for sloppy play.

RoF is tempting. I can buy that along with Castlevania: LoS with the credit I have left.

Nier's sitting at the top of my backlog. Really looking forward to finally playing it.

FF1 is down to $9.96 too, might as well finally pick it up.

I'm torn on Dissidia with the second one coming up :\

I'm not going to say you should buy Nier, because I can't imagine it's a game for everyone. It's heavily flawed.

But I got it cheap and absolutely love it. If you're willing to take the chance, and willing to keep an open mind, you might really like it.

I will, buy Nier NOW, it's a steal.

Son of a bitch. Why can't I be in the US right now to enjoy this sale? Fuck you Brasilian video game prices. Fuck you.

I'm trying to wrap my mind around a JRPG party that is somehow worse than Star Ocean 3's. The mere idea of the existence of such a thing if just mind-boggling.

The story is a HUGE stretch but the ending makes it worth it. It's a fully functioning KH game on the DS and has some of the best Graphics I've personally seen on DS. Also, the gameplay can get a bit repetitive, but you do get to use new abilities, spells, etc like in all KH games so it does help.

Everyone in SO3 was just a forgettable moron. The characters and events that transpire in SO4 will burn in your soul for eternity.

Still not seeing the appeal of 3DotHeroes. The combat is completely one-dimensional. You either kill everyone on-screen with a single sword-swipe, cast that spell that reflects magic, or maybe its those knights where you have to actually move around to get kills in. If you're that hard up for a Zelda clone why not grab Golden Ax Warrior from the PS3/360 Genesis collection? It features better combat, is hard as heck(for good reasons), and you've never played it before. Hell just play Zelda 1 again, it's better than Dot Heroes in every way.

Would get Neir but I have a backlog of games that I need to play through. Probably would have gotten it if I didn't buy FF XIII on Black Friday.

still sealed, but i heard it's good and hard.
Checked out the GT review and while it wasn't glowing, it seems good enough for $20.

Picked up RoF, SO4, Bayonetta ($19 new is the lowest I've seen it), and Nier (which has a later shipping date??). :D

Also, can someone give me a quick breakdown of Ys compared to other types of action RPGs, and whether The Oath In Felghana is a good starting point?

I didn't see someone answer your first question on the first page (wasn't reading that closely though), so in case it never was answered, you will be missing something, but it is far from essential. Demons' Souls shines as a single player experience. For a first play through, I would recommend you keep it single player in any way possible (stay in soul form).

How good was Arc Rise Fantasia?

I remember the VA being terrible from what everyone was talking about but I never really read good opinions on the overall story and battle system. Really the only thing I might consider picking up because I've played most of all of this. Great prices though on some of this stuff

No excuses for not playing through Demon Souls, Valkyria 1 and 2, Resonance etc.

From what I played, I didn't like it one bit. I say that a big Kingdom Hearts fan. The mission design is inadequate as are the controls. If you care about the story, just read a synopsis and watch the cutscenes online.

If you don't mind, give me the rundown on this game? My girlfriend is thinking of picking it up too. Heard a lot of good things in the story thread, along with "this game is really flawed though." But flawed gems are okay by me.
One of the things I've noticed is that, when I mention this game on other boards, and how janky and depressing it can be, people reply with "Yup, that's a Cavia game, alright."

So if you have a frame of reference for Cavia games, that might make this easier.

I went back and read some Nier reviews and people kept calling it a character action game like Devil May Cry, but not nearly as deep. You can't go in with that mindset. It's more Zelda than Devil May Cry.

But all that is incidental. Where Nier excels is soundtrack and, depending on the viewer, story. You kinda have to let yourself accept that, for the first few hours, the game is just based around pretty music. The game itself doesn't open up until you A) kill a boar for faster traversal and B) learn some magic. If, after a few hours, you can't stand the story or the gameplay, the music probably won't keep you enraptured.

If you let it, though, the game might get inside of your head a bit and you can find yourself really enjoying it. This all comes down to personal preference, though, so there's no "If you liked _____, then you'll like Nier" comparison I can throw out there.

*goes with the reading the story on Wikipedia plan*

Wow, that is mostly gibberish. Stupid Kingdom Hearts story.

If you told me 2 years ago i'd buy Star Ocean over Final Fantasy 13 for 10 bucks more, I'd call you a silly fool.... :( wtf happened to you square

Nothing; you just took GAF at its word without trying it. And I did, too, so I went in with low expectations. But I just beat the game and loved it. Music is excellent, combat is challenging and engaging, and unlike some around here, I really liked all the characters. It may not be what everyone wanted from a FINAL FANTASY XIII!!!!! but if you take it on its own terms, it is really enjoyable.

How did you get through FF13? It's been sitting on my shelf collecting dust for months. Played about 25 hours of it and just couldn't get into the game. Giant snooze fest.
