Now what's the next step in your master plan?
On the idea of pre nups ruining potential relationships because its a sign of trust always seemed a bit off. I find getting a pre nup is an even bigger sign of trust in your partner than not getting one. It basically another way of showing you're getting into something for the other person, for the relationship, and aren't focused on assets and wealth. Obviously its a way to protect one's self but if your partner really loves and cares about you and vice versa, I would think you'd both want to protect each other, even if its from your better half when things potentially go sour.

Now I know selling that idea to some people is basically impossible but that's how I always felt.

I mean, what did she do to deserve spousal support? Doesn't it usually require the partner to have sacrificed something? A significant part of their life, having kids, etc?

Yup. And he was with this new, younger woman for like 2 seconds in comparison and married her. She must have had him by the balls.

Yeah, I just googled this. He spent 14 years with Paradis and had two children with her, but never felt the need to get that "piece of paper" (i.e. marriage certificate). But a hot minute later he's marrying someone 22 years younger than him? It reads like he was thinking, "I better marry this one, so she'll stay with me." In which case, his plan did not work.

If you are a multimillionaire then getting a prenup is just common sense.

Some people on GAF do seem overly paranoid about marriage though. If you have $12 in your checking account and are pulling in less than $50k a year (ie a lot of people under 30), you probably don't need a prenup. They won't do anything for you if you miraculously find yourself with substantial wealth 10-20 years after you get married.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, too. As cold as it seems from the outside, we always must remember that we need to do what's best for ourselves, regardless of the situation.

There really are people willing to defend anything on the internet.

He left Paradis though, did he not? So not quite

Why would she even need spousal support? What has he done? And it's not like she's going to be short on cash any time soon.

their marriage was very theatrical

shes on porn sites expressing her feelings for depp, naked.. i heard this from a friend

and they had that whole exhibition with Australia

i bet it went down like something you'd see in a depp drama

watch them get back together

I'm ashamed to admit I Googled it as soon as I read this

For all we know Johnny spent the weekend after his Mom's death with his ex or a new girlfriend or a hotel room with coke and hookers.

Or maybe they've been headed this way and she filed because it would be inappropriate for her to go to funerals and the like.

Johnny could have been the one to end it. I left my first wife but she filed first.

Heard also might be a huge selfish asshole, but there isn't anywhere near enough info to jump to that conclusion.

I just read up on him... wow. 900K a year? AFTER the divorce gutted him of a huge amount of his assets? All in the middle of a massive career decline? 'Just fuck my shit up' indeed.

You should read up on Dave Foley for more evidence of divorce laws needing a reboot.

Isn't she in the DCU now? Why on earth would she need spousal support? Come on. Hopefully the courts reject it.

Depp has been horribly boring for about 10 years, in my opinion. Dude has lost it.

Johnny Depp was my favorite actor of the 90s and it's sad that he's become such a shell of his former self. Some of his stuff in the first half of the 2000s was great - the original incarnation of Jack Sparrow, J.M. Barrie in Finding Neverland, The Libertine, but outside of that it's largely been mediocre or just bad (both the films and his performances).

At some point he just became a parody of himself - the weird actor known for weird performances who just kept doing it because it was expected of him.

At least we'll always have Dead Man. Here's hoping Depp bounces back.

Blow and Donnie Brasco are highlights, where I thought he was going to be considered one of the greatest of all time.

I still think he is great, I am just not interested din a lot of his projects, and his insistence on working with Tim Burton really slays me.

She's asking for spousal support only after a year of marriage. She definitely looks like all she wanted was the money

Three days after his mother died?

Unless he abused her or something she definitely isn't winning in the court of public opinion.

It's possible she's feeling vengeful; or it's simply what the lawyer recommended.

If they acquired assets together like vehicle and homes, and those assets are split up, that may include the continuing need to make payments. That's one good reason for spousal support; you become financially one entity and might be beholden to loans that are based on that combined financial state.

Or maybe the entire marriage was a hoax for her to get money; I just don't jump to conclusions like that.

If he did nothing wrong, and they were married a short time, etc. I'd hope she doesn't get much of anything. But who fucking knows?

It's 100% possible he's the one who ended it either way. There is not enough information to assume the divorce was her idea. Filing first is a smart legal maneuver.
