AMC Theaters host Uncharted 3 event (plus get the game 1 week early)

Well, that was a fun event. Team Chloe made it all the way to the finals, got beaten by a hair or two. I never thought I'd get that far in a tournament so I'm real happy. Great to meet Strider in the real, some cool videos and met up with an old friend there too. Event could have been run better, but that's true for all of em.
 
Oh yeah, for NYC one, the Naughty Dogs who were there were Ricky Cambier, Game Designer, and Jeremy Huxley, Texture Artist.

I asked them where they were previously before ND and Ricky Cambier was at Red Fly Studio (Forced Unleashed II Wii, Ghostbusters Wii) and Jeremy Huxley was at Runic Games (Torchlight).

Who at ND was at SF, LA, DC, etc?

EDIT: Awww, at least you got that far Shinogu. Nice try.
 
This event was a mind blowing cluster fuck in SF metreon. The SCEA staff was on a totally different page with the amc staff. Just getting people in the right line took an hour.

Once you were inside the theater everything was going great until the douche bag host plays the launch trailer without announcing there maybe spoilers. On to the tourny where it seemed like none of the PS3's were even talking to each other through LAN. So that took forever then while that was going on you had the SCEA staff just chatting each others ears off. When they finally got a the first game going they didn't even broadcast over the big screen.

I said F this after the second tourny and talk with SCEA staff. The guy tells go up front and you may have won a gift bag. i head up front and the chic from amc tells me i have to be present to win....>RRRRAAAAAGGGGEEEE!!!!

I left after that i just didn't care anymore.

I hope everything goes smoother tomorrow and Thursday. I was definitely expecting a few kinks to the event to work out which is why I didn't want to go tonight.

Yeah I felt the same way. Getting into the place was a fucking nightmare. There was no organization, or clarification of anything. We were told to be there at 5:00, but nothing actually ended up starting until about 7:20. Then they showed off gameplay footage from a level that was pretty sweet (in 3D), showed the launch trailer, and then ran a video of the E3 demo from earlier this year with the burning chateau. (????)

Then two guys from ND took about 2 questions from the audience. (one was just some guy saying thanks for aging the characters) Then they said "Let's start the tournament! This will take about 4 to 5 hours! I got up and left.

But seriously-the people most excited to be at this event were the SCEA staff-they barely noticed the audience and couldn't stop talking to each other.

Why would you go to an event for a game if you are on a media blackout?
 
One thing that was cool was that they talked about the boat level and how they had originally intended for the Water that rocked the boat to be a scripted event, but they eventually created the waves and let them control how the boat rocked back and forth-doing that saved a ton of resources and was more efficient.

I wasn't on a media blackout but i would have liked some type of notice. The two other trailers they played were fine because it was content we had seen but just a little bit more to it.

I agree with this post. I still enforced media blackout though by playing with my iPhone and
music. I'm just glad I didn't have to pay $60 for this and I got free food out of it since I got my ticket from will call.

Just wanted to give a thanks to everyone that participated in the LA show. Everyone had a great attitude and it was really inspiring to see people so enthusiastic about Uncharted.

Hopefully my single player gameplay demo wasn't too boring... I tried to show off as much new stuff as possible.

Also apologies about how some of the other events ran. Doing something like this is pretty crazy and it doesn't take much to mess up plans/event timing.

oh and congrats to TEAM SALIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIM :)
 
Headed home on Bart right now back to the East Bay. The event ran about as well as the U2 one so I kept my expectations low.

Despite being on media blackout for this game, like I was for U2, of course they spoilered portions of the game - I totally expected that to happen. So while I didn't want to be spoilered, I'm not really angry at being spoiled.

Free stuff and the game a week early is mostly why I went. And as for the winning team getting the Collector's edition free, I'll just wait for the inevitable price drop to get the necklace and belt buckle.

Got back from the D.C. event- had an awesome gaffer on my team, though we lost early and went back to the semifinals after random draw. Anyone else not get an email from Sony after registering for their game (Premium ticket)? I'm really worried that after watching hours of a multiplayer tournament, I may not even get the game a week early- my friend got his email literally the second after he signed up!

I'm not entirely sure- but the email he got said that FedEx was shipping it soon, and someone had to sign for the game. I GOT NO SUCH EMAIL, even after registering all my information on their wonky Sony tablets!

At NYC, we did on Sony Laptops or at least most of us did. During the event, they called out every one that signed up with Sony Tablets saying some technical problem so they asked them out to sign up again.

This was at NY though. Also, they said if we don't get confirmation email within 72 hours, we have to email them a photo...but I don't know where I should be emailing.

How crowded was it, and when did the tourney end? I made plans for Thursday night after the event, but it sounds like it's going to run a lot later than I thought.

I registered my code and info on the provided Sony tablet and got my email just a few minutes after registering.

This was in SF.

Well... shit. Seems like this may be necessary to get the game early, and most people did indeed get their emails! Who could we contact to ask even!?

Yep, they made us do it in excel since they had technical issues with their tablets. I'm sure the majority of NYC people will be waiting for that confirmation email longer.

Yup.

I also went in with low expectations and didn't feel like the night was a waste. I'm happy with the gift bag. Still, I would've liked to see more of the Dogs in SF and more BTS stuff (LA event seemed to be the place to be). Instead, the event is built more around showing you the game on the big screen, which most of us probably don't care for.

Hopefully they get it all sorted out. It'll probably be smoother if you sill have the code they provided the premium pass holders.
 
The tablet I was using was funky. It wouldn't accept my code until the guy refreshed thr whole tablet. I bet it didn't really register my info. Fucccccck.

Sorry dude, but all they have are tablets.

You do have your choice of either using the on-screen keyboard or the keyboard attachment. But that's it.

They showed off the beginning of Chapter 19
the Desert Village
(one of the multiplayer maps), extended cut of the Chateau section, and extended cut of the Boat scene. Out of the 3 I felt the boat section showed off too much and I hadn't even seen the Ch 19 section in single player yet so that was all new to me. They also showed off a bunch of trailers in between rounds, Story trailer had a bunch of footage I had never seen before.

That sucks, the L.A. event was great. Everything went without a hitch, there was plenty of SCEA staff members around to help everyone and we started around 6:20. We had Amy Hennig, Nolan North, Emily Rose, Claudia Black, Robin Atkin Downes, TJ Ramini, Greg Edmonson, the SP QA lead, one of the developers, and the director for the mocap (iirc) answering questions for 20 minutes or so. Evan Wells also stopped by halfway through the event and Nolan North also came back to talk about his Uncharted BTS book.The tournament was much better organized this time than it was for the U2 event and the same hilarious host from the U2 event was giving commentary for the big screen match. They showed trailers/SP demos in between rounds and they gave us a heads up of what they were about to show so we could avoid spoilers.

I think it depends to which one your going to. The LA one was fun, almost as good as the U2 event (the free food puts it over the top) but the SF one sounds pretty shitty. Go in, register for the game, and if you lose and aren't having any fun then it might be best to walk out before the raffles/tournament ends.
 
I was at this event last night in SF. Line was loooooong but as press I got to skip ahead. One of the perks of the job I suppose. Makes up for the several weeks (months?) of 12-14 hour days reviews put in every season around this time.
 
That was fun, the Dallas event here.
Got to the finals but lost, oh well at least I got an autographed poster by Naughty Dog and the actors. Will post pics tomorrow.


Also they also had issues with the Sony tablets, but I wrote my info on paper so they could input it later which they have since I got an email confirmation
