Title change needed. Ariel is not PS5 gpu. People have been locked up in their homes too long with nothing to do but surf the net. Dangerous Shit without outside contact. LOL .
Ariel has been listed in the PlayStation section of the pci database for a long time now so it could've been a AMD internal code name for the PS5 SoC or an early dev kit SoC?

Arden is also in the database and that is widely accepted as being the XSX SoC.

According to this:

"The new findings are very interesting as Sparkman and Arden have ray tracing and variable rate shading mentioned, while Oberon and Ariel don't. If they are indeed related to the PlayStation 5 console, this means that Sony will not be using AMD technology for ray tracing and variable rate shading."

If Sony did shoehorn RT support because they had their pick of selections of RDNA2 features they can add on without increasing the complexity and price. But didn't pick Mesh shaders and VRS for some reason. Then OP would be right.

Why I don't hold any belief either way. It is interesting that they marketed RDNA 1 (Primitive Shaders, Geometry Engine) features rather than RDNA 2 features (Mesh shaders, VRS). Again I don't believe it but its an interesting thought process.
God stop with the bs, will you?

AMD refers to their shader tech as Primitive Shaders. MS can call them Mesh Shaders, DirectX has that implementation

As for the geometry engine, it's an architecture present in both RDNA and RDNA 2.

Edit: VRS is likely not present in the PS5 because it's a Microsoft tech. Lol.

ALSO...

Ariel was never confirmed as the PS5 GPU.

PS5 has been confirmed various times to be RDNA2....

So you are saying all of those voices that align are wrong and only this is right despite never having a clear link to PlayStation at all?!

Please....stop.

I also thought so, but welp:

From Anandtech (about primitive shaders)

The one exception to all of this is the primitive shader. Vega’s most infamous feature is back, and better still it’s enabled this time. The primitive shader is compiler controlled, and thanks to some hardware changes to make it more useful, it now makes sense for AMD to turn it on for gaming. Vega’s primitive shader, though fully hardware functional, was difficult to get a real-world performance boost from, and as a result AMD never exposed it on Vega.
About ray tracing and variable rate pixel shading

With a single exception, there also aren’t any new graphics features. Navi does not include any hardware ray tracing support, nor does it support variable rate pixel shading. AMD is aware of the demands for these, and hardware support for ray tracing is in their roadmap for RDNA 2 (the architecture formally known as “Next Gen”). But none of that is present here.

VRS is a Microsoft only tech. Sure AMD can use it, but they would not allow sony to take advantage.

As for primitive shaders, please re read your quote.

Matt, a dev with access to both dev kits already came out and said implementation of VRS or VRS like will be largely the same in both consoles.

I thought we were past this.

This and Lisa Sus tweet.

Can people stop trying to spread the RDNA1.5 BS?

Yeah, AMD seems to have a patent for their own implementation. What I mean is, VRS is a Microsoft tech, therefore the PS5 will obviously not have it, and saying this is because it's not RDNA 2 is FUD.

Look no further than this thread for proof. Cesspool of FUD.

Oh boy, so now it’s a war thread? Why are we acting like this was some “Team Green” joint effort?

Homeboy in the OP posted his interpretation of some data. Seems like most people who have replied (including myself) are questioning the validity of it all, especially the key detail of Ariel not actually being the PS5 GPU.

And bro, you can’t quote something from XsX meme thread because for every post in that thread there is an opposite equivalent in the Next Gen thread.

this Daniel Dude always posts PS5 and DualSense concept art. I’m pretty sure he’s not a member of the Discord of Evil.

Like I said before, OP needs to prove that Ariel is in fact the PS5 GPU (which it isn’t, as far as I know) before anything else should be taken seriously

I think you have reading comprehension issues. Must be due to all the astroturfing.

I wrote.

I did not say they were the same.

Again, you fail to provide any sort of proof to your delusions and keep spreading BS all around this forum.

MS has a specific implementation for Mesh Shaders with Direct X, even if used by Sony, it will be a different implementation of a similar tech.

Don’t you know chunk? PS5 is perfect, so anyone who casts it in a negative light must be malicious!

I care if next-gen is 1440p at 30 fps. I would be disappointed.
I don't mean to be rude, but honestly, your kind makes me go mad. Fps I can understand somehow, even though I like 30 more than higher fps (it reminds me of soap operas) but why do you care so much about the resolution? Do you really think Pacman in 120k looks better than a game that looks like Avatar in 720p? The people like you who only care about these numbers will be the reason if nextgen will feel again a small step compared to the previous.

It's weird. For all the "team green" mentions in this thread, you'd think there would be a lot of xbox fanboys in here talking shit, but to be honest.. theres mostly just the usual SDF getting defensive. Besides a handful of twitter radicals, nobody seriously believes the PS5 GPU is RDNA 1.

But hey, anybody who says anything bad about Sony or their products must automatically be an Xbox fanboy, because who else in their right mind would ever find anything to be critical about when it comes to Sony?

With that said, I'm pretty sure the code name for the PS5's GPU is Oberon, and not Ariel. Besides, it's been confirmed that the PS5 GPU is RDNA 2 in the official spec list, as well as numerous industry people.

It is known from AMD's documentation that RDNA2 is NV2 * (GFX 20 **) and indeed:

NV21 (Bignavi, high-end)

NV22 (upper middle range)

NV23 (mid-range)

______________________________________

This adds to the suspicions (from weeks ago) of Cerny's presentation where he highlights the Geometry Engine and Primitive shaders (Characteristics of RDNA 1) instead of its VRS / Mesh Shaders (RDNA2) variants.

Presentation of Cerny:

The official AMD documentation on the Primitive shaders / Geometry Pipeline in RDNA 1 mentioned in the presentation.

______________________________________

Finally the Epic demo intended to show the new features of PS5, does not strangely use any of the features of RDNA 2, and its presentation WCCF TECH highlights the following

According to Senior Graphics Programmer Brian Karis, Epic used PlayStation 5's primitive shaders (properly introduced by AMD with the RDNA 1.0 architecture), though the developers also made 'hyper-optimized' software shaders.

_____________________________________

I personally think Ariel is an RDNA 1 customized to support some RDNA 2 features. There is nothing in the Sony or AMD documentation that indicates that it has full support of all the features of RDNA 2. We will see .....
Well, there it is. Github was fully true. The only thing RDNA2 in PS5 is the clock rates and thermal profile to run at such high clocks. Features are RDNA1.

No, your intentions have been made clear in plenty of threads here.

  1. Present a false narrative
  2. Spread incomplete statements as the source of truth
  3. Misinterpret the facts to fit whatever it is you're trying to sell.

This is apparent both here and in the velocity architecture thread, where you have been schooled over and over and come back for more astroturfing.

Serious question. How is anyone being critical of Sony in this thread if the PS5 was confirmed to use RDNA2 instead of RDNA1?

I mean you can be critical on the teraflop count but you can't be critical of the PS5 being RDNA1. Claiming that the PS5 is RDNA1 just isn't true and it's just FUD at this point.

I think you need to learn the difference between being critical and spreading FUD.

Perhaps an old soc thing is in this particular instance I will choose to believe Cerny and Lisa and Sony's blog stating the PS5 gpu is RDNA2. Hell if I'm wrong and the people that helped engineer the PS5 gpu are all lying I will gladly fall on that sword. Still think title change is needed.
At any rate, after seeing the Sweeney demo I really dont care what RDNA it is, we are in for a real treat with both consoles.

I didn't mean to offend you, so sorry if it felt like that. It is just that I really can't understand how can resolution be so important for so many people when it's not the main component of graphics that defines a game.
