American arrested for murder in Tokyo

Japanese media have reported that the women were attending a Nicki Minaj concert in Tokyo when they met the men and decided to accompany them to their hotel rooms.

Why did they think that was a good idea? =/

Also, I'm not surprised that there are Nicki Minaj fans in Japan...

Japan has a ridic high conviction rate that is supposedly the result of coercion and borderline torture tactics. Hearing of these used on its own citizens is one thing, but for that system to be applied to a US national that murdered a Japanese national would add another layer to the story. Even if Japan's criminal justice system weren't screwed up it and it were a Japanese citizen found dead the story would still have an entirely different dynamic.

Japan GAF?

Yeah, I had to read it twice too.

I think I still don't get the story. If the murderer has been accused of groping the friend before, they obviously knew each other and yet she decided to go to his hotel room.

I can see why.

I heard about this a while ago on the radio f this the one where they are dancers/employees of Minaj.

EDIT: Read the article and Japan considers the guy a minor at 19? How old do you have to be to be an adult there?

The grope charge seems pretty odd if anything, the murder case seems pretty solid though.

People literally do this every day with people they just met at a social event. You've never been to a concert and ended up at a stranger's place?

I've never been to a social event.

I didn't think people went back to strangers hotel rooms anymore, if it happened in a horror movie people would complain about the characters making unrealistic choices. Maybe I'm just incredibly sheltered or something.

You could replace Japan with USA in respect of booze
You could replace Japan with USA in respect of voting up until as recently as Vietnam

"when they met the men and decided to accompany them to their hotel rooms."

Why do some females think this is at all a good idea? I know several females that have left parties and various things with men they didn't know, and were surprised when the dudes wanted to have sex with them. Why the hell else would a guy take you to a hotel? ....

Well it's not necessarily a bad idea if they want sex as well. I want to know how/why she ended up dead though.

edit:
Here's link with pictures of the suspect and his friend. Apparently the girl who got killed has a boyfriend with the same last name? I don't know if that source is trustworthy though.

Tokyo police seems to think her drink was spiked. That would explain a lot.

If you guys knew the sociopathic introverted Japan-obsessed exchange students I knew in Japan, you would understand why I immediately thought it could have been somebody I knew.

America secretly hiring Nicki Minaj to help export our murderers and drive down our homicide rates.

Richard Hinds, is a keyboards player who only graduated from Central High School Memphis last year.

He joined the world tour of Japanese/American hip hop star AI along with his older brother Claude (24) on a trip of a lifetime. AI played Tokyo the night before Nicki Minaj whose concert Nicola (21) attended before she died.

She is really pretty. Such a shame. So here is my question. If the strangulation was an accident according to him, would that have been some type of kink involved? Didn't carridine die of a similar fetish?

Does japan have manslaughter charge or do they have evidence that this guy wanted to kill her?

If he's considered a minor by the Japanese (he is) and if he's convicted guilty he's only looking at maybe 15 years at most. Probably closer to 10.

Very sad story for the girl. This is the big national story in Ireland at the moment along with a trial in Mauritius where an Irish woman was allegedly murdered by two hotel employees while on her honeymoon back in January. Just depressing stories all around here at the moment.

Update

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-19012916

A Japanese court has ruled that a 19-year-old man accused of murdering Irish woman Nicola Furlong murder will be tried as an adult.

The decision by the three judges means the maximum penalty the defendant could face is life imprisonment.

If he had been tried as a juvenile, the maximum prison term is five years.

The decision to send the defendant, who is a musician from the United States, for trial in the criminal courts, means reporting restrictions on the case will now be relaxed.

The judges made their decision after considering victim impact statements from Ms Furlong's family and police reports into the case.

She was at the concert with a friend where they met two men and the four ended up in a hotel together.

It is believed she had been sexually assaulted and strangled.

Two Americans were arrested and questioned about her death.

I guess they're more trusting over there, I guess stuff like this doesn't happen often enough to make people think strangers accompanying them home will result in death.
