(American) Civil War Games...

I've been playing the shit out of Ultimate General: Civil War. What an awesome game. I don't think there was ever really a GAF thread about it. Check it out if you have not. I believe it is made by some folks who left the Total War team.

So I was wondering what other great games there have been set in the American Civil War, of any genre...?

About Ultimate General, no, that was a big Total War modder, not developer. So more like Playerunknown and the Battle Royale Genre.

For other games, War of Rights had a very successful Kickstarter. CryEngine shooter.

Minor correction, the dude who's responsible for the UG games isn't a former TW employee. He was one of the most highly regarded modders and was responsible for the DarthMod mods

Ageod's American Civil War 2 is a fantastic title...once you've figured out how it works.

Uses a simultaneous turn system that can take a little effort to get your head around, but is well worth the effort.

Only one I can recall is North and South on the NES. It's a strategy/simulation game, heard it wasn't too great though.

My bad. Thanks

Ops game is on my radar but haven't picked it up yet, I guess this is a solid recommendation?

It's pretty fun. If you played UG: Gettysburg its like that except it has a whole bunch of battles plus a campaign where you can run either the Yanks or Rebs through the whole war, building up your units, choosing weapons, and winning minor battles before each major battle will give you some bonuses in the next major battle.

American Conquest: Divided Nation

Awesome game (in the American Conquest series which is based off of the Cossacks games), but sadly not available on Steam or GOG.

I forgot about this game. It's looking good though. I need to keep my eye on it.

Sid Meier's Antietam and Gettysburg were good, but there really is no point in playing them since UG is a better and newer version.

Battlegrounds mod for Half life was pretty fun!

As already mentioned, the Sid Meier's PC games are good and the NES North & South was really fun (and tough to emulate right as I recall). LucasArts Outlaws had a free DLC expansion that added a Civil War fort level.

Victoria 2 with the A House Divided expansion.

What came to mind for me too. Though Paradox games have never been very good wargame simulators.

That last pic makes me think of the Harry Turtledove novel Guns of the South, where South African white supremacists from 2014 give AK-47s to the Confederacy.

I forgot all about Victoria 2...and I play pretty much every Paradox game. Gonna have to go back to that.

Vicky 2 is my favorite Paradox game. Love it
