American Horror Story: Freak Show |OT| Let your inhibitions go, it's a crazy night...

Yep.

Though Dandy being the big bad instead of Twisty coming back is all sorts of stupid. This season has been downhill since the Halloween episode resolved. :/

It was there own fault for taking the focus off Dandy for so long. They had to go overboard this episode to put the heat back on him.

His interactions with his Mom and Twisty earlier in the season were so good.

I don't get that ending. Elsa suicides by Carnie Halloween tradition and... doesn't pay for all the pain she caused the Freak Show?

This is kinda subverting the Coven ending.

Coven had at least this jewel.

Well, I mean I'm happy that Elsa gets a happy ending after the German woodworker dies, her dreams of Hollywood are corrupted and dead, and her "monsters"/family of the freakshow are all dead with the exception of three (er-"four") living members from it. But given she basically stomped all over them to achieve said corrupted Hollywood dream, it seems like she'd be in the same place the Supreme of Coven was: Hell or something like it.

These last four episodes "saved" the season for me but I still rate it the lowest when comparing it to the other seasons. The beginning of the season was so bad, which was sad considering there was so much potential with the freak/circus theme. Oh well. Sad glad Angela Basset and Sarah Paulson's characters lived.

So Amazon Eve was able to overpower the Strong Man but not Dandy? What a lot of horseshit. A terrible ending to a terrible season.

What gets me laughing is that she had an axe and... suddenly... loses it... in the surprise to fight him. It's like "where the fuck did it go?"

Such a fucking shit of an ending to match a clusterfuck shit fest season.
Dandy was the one shining spot, like a small sapling growing out of a festering steaming shitstack.
Seriously, the writer can do small moments but fails in a pathetic way at storyline.

Two utterly shit seasons back to back. At least Dandy's massacre scenes were cool. Too bad he didn't kill everyone.

This season was nearly as bad season 3. Way too many characters, bad story, shit pacing, and boring as fuck.

Farewell, Jessica Lange. You deserve better.

they should cancel this show

what a wretched season

Seriously. This season was awful. I didn't like Coven after a certain point, but even that was better than this mess of a season. With Ryan Murphy working on so many shows now, maybe he'll be too divided to focus on screwing up any single one of them
wishful thinking, I know
.

And count me as someone who is confused with Elsa's happy ending. I know they all loved Jessica Lange, and this is allegedly her final season, but it seems odd to reward her after all is said and done.

So:

Murder House - everyone ends up happy in ghost purgatory
Coven - Bates and Bassett end up in hell, Lange in purgatory
Freak Show - everyone ends up happy in freak purgatory

umm

come up with new endings plzkthx

I think it was worse than season 3, honestly. Coven, awful as it was, at least had it's over the top outrageous moments - everything with Myrtle, Angela Bassett chewing scenery like nobody's business, Stevie Nicks (whythefuckwasstevienicksincoven), Evan Peters playing what was essentially a human mannequin for most of the season, Papa Legba, etc. It at least had its insanity going for it.

But Freak Show? What was there outside of a few crazy/amusing Dandy moments? Literally nothing as far as I'm concerned. What a fucking waste of time.

I would generally agree with this, and I didn't like Coven. Coven did have a campy and fun sort of horror vibe to it in retrospect. It was messy and had far too much going on, but there are some things I can look back on and enjoy a bit.

There really wasn't that much about this season to enjoy. Gloria and Dandy had a couple of funny moments, but nothing I can look back on and say was that enjoyable or funny.

Well, it's over and I won't miss it. The finale wasn't too bad, though, and was actually better than I expected.

I hated
Dandy
, so I'm glad he got his own. The
shooting scene
was also really realistic and unexpected.

Hmm...boring in the middle of the season and great in the beginning and the end.

Hey, better than the downward trajectory of Coven.

Although Denis O'Hare's character just died off-screen stuck in a box starving I guess?

Got to say, wasn't a fan. It's weird because, I fall in the group that LOVED Asylum. I still think it is better than Season 1.

But I hated Coven. Hated it. And in the end, didn't care for Freak Show either. So it's like okay. I'm just done with this project.

EDIT: Didn't hate the finale or the overall ending. But just found the overall season underwhelming. And just in general, the creators have kind of lost me on what they want this project to be.

I guess so, yeah. :/ Really poor writing to just drop his storyline after that creepy development.

can someone spoiler it for me? cant be bothered waiting till next week

Dandy kills all of the freaks except for Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, and the two headed Sarah Paulson. They capture Dandy and put him in a water tank and drown him in a very anticlimactic fashion.

(8 years later) Jessica Lange becomes a huge TV star but is bored by life: she married her agent (or whatever) but they don't love each other, Danny Huston is dying so she can't run away with him, a gossip columnist has gotten a hold of her old snuff/porn films and is going to expose her, and she also finds out that her monsters have been dead all these years. She has nothing to live for so she agrees to perform on Halloween. Edward Mordrake and Twisty come for her but tell her she can't join them. Instead they allow her to join this weird purgatory where all the dead freaks are living in - Kathy Bates, the tall woman, seal boy, etc. Everyone is super happy to see her and she gets to perform every day for a packed house full of ghosts for the rest of eternity.

Angela Bassett marries the son from the Cosby Show and has several kids.

Evan Peters marries the Sarah Paulson twins and they are pregnant.

Might as well drop the "Horror" part as well.

There's really not much of a Story either, tbh

I liked the way it ended. This season was definitely an improvement over Coven, for me.

And is it me, or are they really hinting at a
war themed
season 5?

Reading all of that typed out makes it seem like a joke but that is literally what happens. :/

What makes you think that? The only clue we have so far is a top hat.

How about "Ryan Murphy's Vaudeville Sketch Hour"? :p

Sounds good! (I'd actually like to see what Murphy would do if AHS were an anthology show in the vein of The Twilight Zone, where each episode is self contained. That could be really interesting. In fact, maybe the top hat represents "variety"? Each episode next year is a stand alone piece? :O That would be "very different", after all...)

Chester being a war veteran, Massimo going to Nevada to help build a nuclear test site, and Operation Top Hat.

Edit: This occurred to me while watching
Massimo's conversation with Elsa. That talk about nuclear test sites sounded so out of place... then again, this is AHS we're talking about, so I could be and probably am wrong.

The season didn't keep the interesting pace of the beginning of the season, but it had a nice closure. Weird, but as much as I can acknowledge it was "better" than Coven, I still enjoyed Cover better.

Why do people call it purgatory? It seems closer to Heaven. Theyre performing for people which is what they liked to do. They have full house every night. Everyone seemed to be happy.

Ending felt tone deaf, why the fuck would anyone be happy to see Elsa?

It was basically the ending to S1 all over again.

Ahhh! You might be on to something! But I really don't want another season set in the 50s. :/

I can't believe I'm saying this, but this season is the worst season so far. Way worse than Coven. Coven's plot got really weird, but at least it was enjoyable to watch. This is just bad AND boring. I feel like there needs to be at least a year or two break between seasons, because I'm really getting burnt out on this show.

And with that, I'm officially done with American Horror Story. It was worth it for the first two seasons. Such a waste of talent these last two seasons with the misuse of Kathy Bates, Angela Basset, and Dennis O'Hare. I'm a pretty patient man, but American Horror Story reminds me of Heroes, so much wasted potential and a colossal downfall in quality.

Finally saw this and man, what a let down. First off, I love the production value because if you happened to stumble upon a random episode without any context, you'd probably be drawn in. But saying that:

I don't get it. What's the point? I mean, sure, everything the characters are doing or situations they come upon can be thought of as logical relationships but were they done in any interesting or satisfying way? Not in the least.

The way Dandy murdered everyone one by one so easily, I felt like it was a huge injustice to these characters you spent an entire season getting learning about. And Amazon woman being done in so easily like that. Angela Bassett doing nothing to save her even though she came off as the type of character who would have.

Biggest complaint is Jessica Lange's story arc. I mean, I loved her acting in Coven even though that went absolutely nowhere, but it's starting to make me feel like maybe she's commanding more of the story's direction than she's should be. I mean, her Freak Show motives are discovered to be disingenuous, even to the point of murdering her own family and after running off and selling them to a maniac, she gets all of her Hollywood dreams fulfilled. Then after her snuff films are discovered (which they just crammed in), she commits on-stage suicide only to get her dreams fulfilled in death?

Then, everyone watching her on TV looking at her fondly going, "Oh, that's just Elsa being Elsa! Good ol' Elsa!" HELLO. SHE SOLD YOUR FRIENDS OUT TO A SERIAL KILLER.

Pros: Angela Bassett eating popcorn.

Cons: Everything else.

That bothered me as well. They established Desiree to be this tough as nails take-shit-from-no-one type, pointing guns at people and tarring/feathering them, but when shit hit the fan with Dandy she cowered behind the bed and cried? And didn't even help the tall woman fight Dandy? It didn't sit well with me.

And actually, the exact same thing happened with Bassett's character last season too when the witch hunter broke into her salon and she just hid while he murdered all her people. Crazy ass zombie summoning bad bitch witch one second (more like entire season) and then random coward the next?

That wildly inconsistent characterization tho...

Then, everyone watching her on TV looking at her fondly going, "Oh, that's just Elsa being Elsa! Good ol' Elsa!" HELLO. SHE SOLD YOUR FRIENDS OUT TO A SERIAL KILLER.

lmao preach. That was so cringeworthy.
