Unrelated to this week's show, but I just realized that Blade last week did 311's cover version of Love Song. Somebody needs to ****ing slap him.

Yeah, me and I think one other person here caught that too last week. It definitely wasn't his spin on it.

Likishi looking all sultry at the camera, like the audience was a juicy cheeseburger and fries.

:lol

So, we should comment on Melinda's neck again. Or lack thereof.

I muted Phil and Gina, so send one of them home.

Quick, what was Sanjaya's number? I forgot.

The sanjaya thing doesn't seem to matter much if he actually tries like he did tonight. Hopefully he'll do something crazy on Latin music night.

Blake -- kinda boring. I didn't think he was all that great.
Phil -- TERRIBLE. Awful.
Melinda -- amazing as usual.
Chris -- really good performance. The first time his voice didn't annoy me.
Jordin -- excellent.
Gina -- beautiful voice, nice performance.
Haley -- one of her better performances.
Sanjaya -- his best performance since his audition, though that's not saying much.
Lakisha -- good, but not her best.

This week's ranking, best to worst:
Melinda
Jordin
Lakisha
Gina
Chris
Haley
Blake
Sanjaya
Phil

Lakisha - Was that good?
Tony Bennet - HOW ABOUT YOU DO IT THE WAY THE SONG WAS WRITTEN

And she then proceeded to NOT SING IT THE WAY IT WAS WRITTEN.

Seriously kids, if TONY GOD DAMN BENNETT tells you how to sing a song, sing it that way!

Also, I am officially on the Sanjaya bandwagon at this point.

Blake - still boring, but no real problems
Philferatu - muted it after a bit
Melinda - same, getting old
Chris - his best, no real problems, probably best of the night.
Jordin - meh, song revealed weaknesses
Gina - another mute, she's just bad
Haley - her old-sounding style was ok for the theme (lol @ tony pointing out how she was destroying the song)
Sanjaya - he is in tune, on rhythm, emphasizes what needs to be, but is still somehow bad. no talent, but enough skill that's it's fun/endearing instead of painful.
Lakisha - blah (lol @ tony again)

Please get rid of Gina, Phil and Haley in that order.

Man, Sanjaya was on fire tonight. Pissed me off Randy talking about he can't speak about the vocals. The vocals were GOOD - wtf?! I know the judges have a vendetta against him, but at least try to be honest.

Loved Sanjaya dancing with Paula, that was cute!

In other Idol news, Phil scares me, why is he still on the show? ;____;

Really impressed with Chris tonight. Nice r&b vocals there, without overdoing it. He kind of sings out of the side of his mouth .. it's a little annoying.

I thought Gina was solid tonight again. She continues to be steady.

Lakisha bores me to tears now. She needs to do what Jordin does, and just belt out a song for 2 straight minutes.

Sanjaya's vocals were not good, for Pete's sake, he practically talks his way through a song, especially when he doesn't know the material. When he does sing, he's flatter than a pillow Likishi sat on. And he does the same gay dance no matter what he sings. He's awful. He's only hanging around for the comedy factor and he knows it, which is why he tries to play it up every week.

Close behind him was Phil....ugh, I can't take his singing voice. It's the only thing Paula's been right about, his verses are terrible and then he sings ok on the chorus.

Next in line is Chris. Blah. Boring, boring, boring.

Haley - the legs are her only positive. It's not that she sings bad, she's just so average. So karaoke. Her style reminds me a lot of Kathie Lee Gifford and her old Carnival cruise commercials. The old ladies would like her vocal style, but not anybody else.

Blake - he can only sing one form, kinda slow and kinda low. Christ, he even molded Mack the Knife into it. For reference, see the Brian Setzer Orchestra version of Mack the Knife. No way Blake could handle it done in that style, which is up tempo, loud and almost frenetic.

Gina - she has good weeks, terrible weeks, ok weeks and great weeks. She's all over the spectrum. She was good tonight, save for one note she shrieked to all hell. She should last for several more shows, but she probably won't.

Likishi- I dunno, I'm tired of her. Strong voice, but uninspired delivery. She gets outperformed by Melinda every week.

Jordin- I like the kid, she can sing and perform. And she's seem like the only real, down to earth person there. Like how she doesn't stick to the same style week in and week out. It doesn't always work, but at least she shows some versatility. She's my darkhorse pick and I'd love to see her knock out either Likishi or Melinda, but it probably won't happen.

Melinda- She's the favorite. Amazing set of pipes. I'm growing tired of her though. And she does seem really phoney.

Holy hell Haley looked great tonight. Green is her color indeed. Apparently she also sang. Good for her.

That aside, it was pretty much the usual. Melinda did her "gee golly you really mean it" routine and proceeded to annihilate everyone vocally. Sanjaya wasn't nearly weird enough. I dare say he was almost trying to sing decent tonight, which ain't really working in his favor. More stupid hair, maybe brick in Simon's mouth at the end of a performance, do the things we demand! :D

Sideboob Scarnato set to slay the mighty dragon!

I don't really know much about AI, I never watch the opening months that explain how it works. Is the order random or something? Ending on Lakisha right after Haley bounces around in that outfit seems waaaaaaaaaay too much of a set up.

As far as I know, the last singer is almost always safe, as more people watch the second half of the show, and it's easier to remember someone who's last. The producers definitely know this, and they even use it sometimes to save their favorites.

I don't doubt that the producers mess with the results in this manner and more, but what is the logic behind doing so? Isn't the market already voting for what they want? Or is the reasoning that controversy or disappointment will bring in bigger numbers?

I think one of the reasons for AI's success is the producers' understanding that AI is reality TV first, singing competition second. A shocking elimination or two bring ratings, and as long as a deserving winner is crowned at the end, people will still tune in to watch the next season.

Possibly not final, but close--from the same fellow who has spoiled the last two weeks:

1. Melinda
2. Sanjaya
3. Chris
4. Phil
5. Blake
6. Jordin
7. Haley
8. Lakisha
9. Gina

My thoughts:
LET IT BE LAKISHA PLEASE!!!! I hate Gina too, but the ego needs to go--we may not get this close again if she shows up in the bottom 2 and stays (the Chris effect)

Holy crap at #2, and why does Nosferatu continue to LIVE AHHHHH. And living so far that he's surpassed three better singers (not the last one lol)?!?!

I think the judges and their resignation when reviewing Sanjaya is a pretty good indicator that he is getting alot of votes.

I just don't understand what segment of the population is voting for Phil. He makes bad song selections, looks odd and aside from hitting the big notes is a pretty bad singer.

Military.

And if Gina goes before Haley, there really IS no justice in the world. Lakisha doesn't belong in the bottom three, either.

Gina's personality >> Haley's, and I happen to think Gina's a better singer than Haley. I don't think either could win, but Gina really, really should outlast Haley.

That's a joke right? The last two weeks Gina's looked like a lost little puppy up on stage with no idea what she should be doing.

Tastes are different, but almost everyone I have read (on forums) have said that Gina had one of the best performances last week and a decent one this week.

I'm hoping they just use the clause to get rid of Haley. She's so boring. I guess we are overdue for a SHOCKING ellimination though.

IOf Lakisha goes, I'll be surprised. Only once has the last performer gone home the next night (2 if you include AI2 finale)

I agree, but I was talking specifically about her stage presence. The girl plainly doesn't know what she should be doing when singing a ballad.

Do we really have to spoil the vote totals? I mean, does anyone care THAT much? Plus, AI never reveals anything other than the eliminated contestant.

Anyways, I couldn't be more pleased that Sanjaya is #2. Unless there's some mile-wide margin between him and Melinda, he could actually win. :lol

EDIT: Nigel said on Ryan's radio show that tonight's elimination would be the "biggest shocker in Idol history". Not that I put much stock in this obvious exaggeration, but if it actually IS shocking, I hope that it's Blake.

My bet:
