I guarantee you'll think twice before downloading this game.

Wow, we know it is a recruitment tool but who cares, I support our military and really don't care if it is a recruitment tool or not, it's a free game that seems like it could be fun.

Servers are fucked, unplayable. Half the time I can't even login, and when it fails it doesn't time out, it just sits there forever and I have to close the game process. I was able to get into the first training level once, and when I completed it it sat there forever trying to update my profile.

gg

It sounds exactly like the launch of America's Army 1!

Just give em time guys.

Believe me when I say that when everything is in working order (the servers + authentication servers are the problem right now), the game runs extremely well. But, since there's millions of people hitting these servers right now, they're obviously overloaded. My Beta tag isn't even showing up like it should.
They'll be working on it throughout the weekend, so take it easy guys.

America's Army 1 release was farrrr worse. :lol

Wow, this game is utterly broken. Has anyone been able to get a game today here?

edit: Ya, every time I try to launch into anything, be it training or a multiplayer match, the game just locks up and i have to end its process.

I couldn't even log in today so...I'm just going to try a couple times a day and do what I can. Can't wait until everything is fixed. I freaking loved Pipeline SF in AA2.0.

It's not even displaying right on my 1080p monitor. Keeps appearing in "full screen" mode even with the widescreen option and 1080p selected. :lol

Damn this game is fucked. Nothing to see here folks, everyone go back home.
you know the game was actually very good, its just the server overload for the authserver completely FUCKED them over. seems harsh for the studio to be shut down.

I keep passing above and beyond their requirements ... passed the obstacle course and the rifle range.. then it takes me to the main menu and none of them are counted as passed. and I have to start over because the rifle range is locked.

Same here, finally got into one and the netcode seems sooooo much better than the beta. It unceremoniously booted me back to the main menu a few minutes later.

Hey, that's the same reason why I never played the original America's Army.
I'd finish training, then it would fail to register my results with the server, and I'd be kicked back to the start of training.

It was frustrating, because without passing training, you couldn't play.

so i finally got into a single a game. it was really fun.

mores the pity i guess.

I just got into a game myself.. there was a ridiculous amount of lag.. but i managed 6 kills 4 deaths HOO AHH!!

then i got disconnected.. when i reached back to the soldier screen all my stats were recorded... all the different levels for like Honor and loyalty and even -27 for integrity.. were all there... I figured that was a good omen... I tried the obstacle course again... when i finished.. all my stats were gone...

Finally got into a match and I love it. Got stuck as a machine gunner when I didnt want to be one but ended up enjoying it. Sitting back and laying down fire on those corner leaners is great:lol . Scored a lot of neutralizations that way, none confirmed though :(

Currently downloading. I don't need a microphone for this do I? I hate communicating with my squadmates :lol

one of the devs posted a letter on the official forums...

I worked as a Dev at AA Emeryville for the last year and a half and I hope I can appeal to your rationality and common sense. I would like you to imagine trying to build a game with an impossible deadline, steadily declining workforce (via firings), A hiring freeze, constantly being fed misinformation, having the "higher ups" completely ignore your weekly plea for either A) more time, or B) more manpower, working a ton of unpaid overtime, pouring your heart and soul into a misadventure only to have the uniformed community scoff at you for uncontrollable variables..... RIGHT when you've just lost your job.

There are problems with the release beyond the devs control. In fact, the bureaucracy is so convoluted that you can't even begin to imagine the breadth and scope of B.S. the devs had to deal with daily. in short, imagine being the subcontractor of a subcontractor of a contractor to the government. Sure Millions of dollars may have been poured into this project, but how much do you think made it to the actual DEV team, the people MAKING the game, after it was filtered by the bureaucracy?

I realize if you are a gamer, you rightly expect a game to work. period. But I would ask that you imagine for a second that you actually DON'T understand what it takes to make this particular game, and you really don't understand the many obstacles that were placed in front of the Devs... in nerdy terms: A Kobiyashi maru.

What I would like you to understand is that the Devs did everything they could, worked a TON of unpaid overtime, put their time and passion into an un-winnable situation, and were effectively stabbed in the back. Many of these guys are my close friends, they have family to take care of, and overpriced rent to deal with. They just came off busting their butts for months, to be let go, without warning. Perhaps a little empathy is in order here.

Almost every multiplayer online game has problems upon release. These problems become exaggerated when a development team is kept in constant turmoil and paranoia via misinformation and a high rate of employee turnover. When the people you trust around you are being let go, it becomes difficult to emotionally invest yourself in the titanic sinking ship. Nonetheless, I can tell you the Devs STILL pushed themselves as hard as they could.

Furthermore, the problem with the game at this point, has everything to do with the authentication servers being slammed, A.K.A not a controllable variable by the Devs. Sure there are bugs, they WERE being fixed, and now you'll be lucky to see any fixes in the near future.

For those of you who think Redstone arsenal will do a better job, well.... I won't have to tell you that you're sadly mistaken because you'll see for yourself.

I'm not sure why i've felt compelled to write this when I'm sure it will get deleted, or even scoffed at further, but I hoped to let the fans know that we tried as hard as we could and are very bummed to see the fruits of our labor shoved at gamers like a heaping pile of crap.

I got it downloaded, discovered it worked for the Mirror's Edge editor (yay for everyone), and finally got into a multiplayer match. It looks kinda cool. I'll try some training next. :)

*edit*
Oh, and about working as a government contractor/subcontractor...ugh. I understand a little where they're coming from, and that's awful.

*edit v2.0* The obstacle course freezes on the black loading screen, awesome. :lol

the only game where friendly-fire is encouraged.

Sooo true..

I shot my buddy by accident... and he dropped to the floor... I then was like CRAP .. ran up to him and healed him... at the end of the round i got -3 points for shooting him and +9 points for the HEAL lol

Who cares if it's a recruiting tool? It's a free Unreal Engine 3 game.

What I find funny is that it will be available over Steam. It seems the US Army is more with the times than some big game publishers.
Weelll, the mindset of an advertiser and an actual game publisher is going to be a bit different.

Jesus, 20 million people?! That's fucking crazy.

I take back what I was saying about them not preparing adequately for the launch rush.

this is perhaps one of the most blatant "subliminal" recruitment device for the US army ever. i would think that there would be some anxiety for Steam to put this up. it's basically Valve supporting military service, while not WRONG, is still rather disingenuous through the window of the game.

Subliminal is completely the WRONG phrase to use. Blatant is closer to the truth. It's about as morally dubious as a TV or Print advertisement. Saying that Steam is supporting military service by hosting AA3 is like saying that the networks are supporting military service by running the ads that the Army pays for.

And while we're on the subject - what the hell is wrong with SUPPORTING military service?! These people do a job for their country - it might not always be done precisely in the way that you like, but that's a function of the politicians you voted into office and not the Military. They don't get to decide not to go to Iraq because they feel the intelligence is hokey - they have to salute the Commander in Chief.

Anyway... Back to the point... The point is that AA3 is not pretending it's anything other than a recruiting tool. It's plastered with Army logos, calls itself America's Army and comes clean about its origins.

Now if it was called Freedom Force and was about the wonderful military of Freedomia and their fight against Terrorististan, you'd have a point.

Compared to the shit companies do to us to get us to buy their brand of softdrink or sandwich meats, the Army is a babe in the woods.
