WHY AMERIE!? WHY DID YOU DO THIS!? WHY GODDAMMIT WHY!!!

I saw that in the black culture thread. A downgrade in my opinion, I mean she still is pretty but lost a good chunk of charm. In the end it's her face/body, but I will never understand some people's fixation to cut their faces.

She's part korean. They have a whole culture of plastic surgery over there.

Don't most Korean women undergo some form of cosmetic surgery at some point in their life?

What's different here?

(here she is pictured with her mother)

Don't know her so at first I thought this thread would be about some japanese translation of Amelie Poulain xD
Yes, she looks way better in that first pic (even though the first one looks more "photoshopped" in comparison)

I've seen some of that phenomena, but this is a girl living in America! Eh, each to their own, if she's happy more power to her, but judging by gaffers' reactions she's on the Lil' Kim path.

Lighter is better has long been a staple of beauty standards in the west and the east =/.

I'd say that's misguided at this point. This is the perfect example. "Lighter is better" might still be around but a lot of people would think thing kind of thing is terrible, like we all do.

Apparently she lived there for three years. And living here doesn't mean much. A couple korean girls who went to my school got nose and eyelid jobs in South Korea.

Ask yourself how much diversity you see in advertising, movies and such.

It's global, actually. But only for women.

Testosterone has been shown to darken skin color in laboratory experiments. In his foreword to Peter Frost's 2005 Fair Women, Dark Men, University of Washington sociologist Pierre L. van den Berghe writes: "Although virtually all cultures express a marked preference for fair female skin, even those with little or no exposure to European imperialism, and even those whose members are heavily pigmented, many are indifferent to male pigmentation or even prefer men to be darker."

I think she looks better in that first pic. I guess when you have money and you can allow yourself to fixate on such issues as plastic surgery you can go a little overboard. Most of us can't afford to be so batshit crazy.
