Amy Schumer comedy special getting demolished by user reviews

Except there is absolutely no other current female comic who is as known as her or as hated by the sexist GamerGate/alt-right/Trump supporter segement of the internet.

There's no one to compare Schumer to. She is a target of the anti-women alt-right.

It certainly isn't just the right. People here have been riled up too by saying her humor is too racist.

She's stuck in limbo.

Then why aren't her other specials targeted with negative reviews? Why aren't trailers for her new movie downvoted on YouTube? If this is a concerted campaign, it is strangely specific.

I think the more obvious explanation is that Netflix is promoting this special heavily within its own App/UI. As such it's being surfaced to a much broader audience than most stand-up specials. And that wider audience is simply not accustomed to Schumer's gross-out/profane/promiscuity routine.

I like to tune into Stand Up in background around the house.

Trevor Noha's was boring as fuck; maybe I will try Amy's to see what the fuss is about or not about

I watched it with my wife. She enjoyed it, but I didn't find any of it laughable :/

She has no charisma or ability to deliver a punchline well. Just goes on and on about cum. The only part I found sort of amusing was the Bradley Cooper bits.

Despite all of that, there's still worse stuff on Netflix. I'd give this a 2 out of 5, while Joe Rogan gets a 1 out of 5.

So has anybody watched it or we just assuming that its misogynists giving negative reviews?

Maybe its total shit.

I was mildly amused by some of her older stand up but her show was terrible with a few exceptions and a lot of her material that Ive seen lately just isnt that good. She seems to have fallen into the trap that some comedians do of getting lazy with their writing once they hit it big.

Has Amy ever gone after gamers? Just wondering.

Bad comedy is one thing, but not every bad comedian has an army of people with pitchforks after them.
The hate runs deep.

My wife had this on for about ten minutes the other day before she got bored and turned it off. I like a lot of what I've seen from Inside Amy Schumer, but her standup is not good. But to be fair, I dislike most standup comedy.

In my opinion, it's the latter part about it being shit, but I'm only familiar with her from movies or her show clips.

I also made it maybe 20-30 minutes in, so I guess I can't judge for sure (and didn't rate it), but it really wasn't good in that timeframe.

I'm positive a lot if this is misogyny. And I'm saying this as someone who really really really does not like Schumer as a comedian or person

Agreed about Trevor. Yawn.

And yeah, this leather special sucked.

Comedians are getting lazy with that Netflix money. Last really good one for me was maybe Bo Burnham Make Happy.

I'm sure there's a reddit post somewhere that explains this.

Even the dog-shittiest of dogshit on Netflix almost never racks up those kind of numbers.

This.

Nothing to do with Schumer, but she's not really that funny.

No surprise to see that her stand-up is being rated accordingly. Nothing against female comedians, but there's very little worse than unfunny comedy.

My girlfriend and I watched it over the weekend. It was solid, if not spectacular. It pretty much hits the same topics that Schumer usually sticks to (binge eating/drinking, sex, misogyny, light politics), but that's her niche, so I'd recommend it for fans of her stand-up/TV show.

Oh, and since a couple people asked, it's called The Leather Special because, as Schumer notes, many comics, when they hit it big, do a special where they wear all leather (i.e. Eddie Murphy). The first bit she goes into is all about how it was a terrible idea for her to wear all leather, because she's super sweaty in it, and it's making all kinds of weird sounds when she moves.

For what it's worth, I also enjoyed Trainwreck and while I find her show hit-or-miss, when it hits, I'm a big fan.

I watched the leather thing on Netflix and didn't enjoy it. She rambled quite a bit and just failed on delivery I think. I've seen some of her other stuff on Comedy Central or whatever and liked it more.

But this was just not good. Fiance felt the same way.

Whats with the article saying she is churning at comedy at a rapid pace and then referencing stuff that's like 1-2 years old?

Also who trusts user reviews on Amy Schumer or Netflix in general?

dunno if its fair or not, but I watched about 10minutes of it and was so bored I couldnt go on :(

I watched the special, and I laughed. I don't remember if I rated it, but it'd be hard for me to accept that that many 1-star ratings are anything but typical internet shittiness.

Her new comedy was terrible. Poop and dirty vagina jokes for 35 mins straight made me stop. Not even joking. Probably her most crude special

Watched it and it was bad and I like Amy Schumer. Then again many of the Netflix comedies seem bad. A lot of pumped in audience audio and poor audience panning/reaction. Have you guys seen the Mike Epps or Chris Tucker specials? Doo doo ca ca poo poo fecal matter! Netflix would have been better off with some Improv amateurs.

She called it The Leather Special but this was not her Dangerous moment.

The Cedric the Entertainer one was alright. Jokes felt a few years old but he stayed true to himself.

As a fan of all three comedians their specials were not that good.

I turned it on for about 10 minutes and turned it off. Wasn't really all that funny at all. I have always felt she was overhyped off of some devastating comedy central roast jokes and parlayed that into a career.

The user reviews are usually accurate for comedy specials. The ones with low stars usually aren't very funny. Also, just because it is getting lower stars doesn't make people who rated it that way automatic misogynists.

Bill Burr also dropped the ball in quality in his latest special;
the more he incorporates his conspiracy theories into his material, the less funny he becomes.

''Billderberg!!!''

Her comedy is infuriatingly boring

I remember her in her rookie days in stand-up comedy. She was definitely very light on the hits and big on the misses. In the last few years, I have to say that her routine has gotten pretty damn good. I saw her at an epic comedy festival 2 years ago, and she was great. Haven't seen her movie or any other media she's been in.

Its a weak special for sure. She felt like a comedian who might be good one day honestly, not the comedian is.

I like Schumer, and I thought Trainwreck was hilarious.

That being said, I watched maybe ten minutes of the new special and was like NOPE. Just unfunny.

The fact that there were more two star reviews than there were three, four and five star reviews combined makes me think that maybe this is genuinely bad?

i hate amy schumer but i wont even rate her special 1 star lol,

i didnt liked trainwreck at all

netflix cares for starters
That's the thing, I doubt they actually care about user ratings. They only use those to shape recommendations, and I doubt somebody who hates Schumer THAT much is going to be recommended the special in the first place. Hitting it with a 1-star review does nothing.

If the goal was to make it fail, it's actually counterproductive. Now the special is getting free press, making Schumer a more valuable commodity for Netflix to keep on board.

Edit - Apparently it might just be legit bad? Assumed this was some amateur brigading by Internet assholes. Anyways, interesting to see how this shakes out. Netflix is hyper-secretive about ratings, so it's very hard to tell if this was a genuine flop.
