On my Facebook today some Android fans are slamming the hell out of iOS for its lack of flash. The irony :P

yeah. holo apps are attractive as hell but it's sad that companies just can't be fucked to update their apps.

Or they want to maintain compatibility with older devices. That's what's I'm betting on. It's amazing how many phones are still running ancient versions of Android.

Progress...

I'm making my app Holo and 4.0+ only. :) Part of the solution?

It's actually somewhat easy to backport Holo to older devices, or to make an app that has both old Android UI and Holo.

Don't they have a very narrow compatibility list as far as installing from the play store though? Off the top of my head everything they've approved should be running 2.3 which can run apps with the action bar/holo interface.

Nope, all my apps are 1.5 and up compatible and you better believe there are still people running 1.5 lol. Look at the statistics for one of my apps:

Android 2.3.3+
107,296
59.30 %

Android 4.0.3 - 4.0.4
33,318
18.41 %

Android 2.2
16,651
9.20 %

Android 3.2
11,221
6.20 %

Android 3.1
4,507
2.49 %

Android 2.1
4,365
2.41 %

Android 4.0 - 4.0.2
1,256
0.69 %

Android 1.6
1,011
0.56 %

Android 2.3
658
0.36 %
Others

0.36 %

My app is not very popular but still look over 1k people on 1.6 using my app

So I was finally able to capture this little highlight when using Google Now.

It sort of matches up with the glow when pressing the home key. I've no idea what it's supposed to be indicated and it doesn't always show up.

Looks like a radial menu like the lockscreen. Perhaps they intend to have multiple actions for long press on Home?

I'd say that's pretty impressive. 27.8% on the "modern" versions of Android already.

It doesn't. Not looking to make any money off the app. :P

Plus 4.0 is 7.1% and growing. The GS3, GS2 with ICS, One X/S, and Sony ICS devices will all push that up a lot pretty soon, I'd imagine.

Actually I think you posted that right before they updated their numbers for the month. 10.9% now, so up over 50% from the previous month. Hopefully that pace ramps up with the S3 hitting and more people get exposed to a better Android.

Wow haha, must have been right after I posted. 10.9% is awesome. Very encouraging.

The problem is a very small percentage of people even have 4.0 unless that doesn't bother you.

I arbitrarily picked 2.1, Eclair, for lowest base, I still can't believe when i got NoSuchMethodError for the first time, I was like wtf is this shit, no isEmpty() for fawking strings till API level 9, I was like wut...

The space mountain one was like WHAAAT.

And the answers are so fricking fast too. Guess that's what happens when you do it all native instead of having to jump through third parties.

Apple is going to sue the pants off of Google. Smh
Erm, isn't that what they're already doing, and hence the US injunction against the Nexus being sold there? Something about searching using multiple sources (which has been in Android, in text search form, since Gingerbread as far as I can recall, and probably earlier.)

This feels like the closest thing to a companion AI so far. Just imagine where this tech will be in 5~6 years.
I'm pretty impressed that Google one-upped Siri so quickly.. If Apple keeps pace this year I will be surprised.

According to rumors, Now was a Google+-scale initiative across the whole company. Siri definitely threatens Google's fundamental, core search/ads business in a way Facebook doesn't even compare. They definitely got their asses in gear to fend it off, and knew they couldn't half ass it as few people would ever give it a second chance.

Honestly, Ive always maintained that Google had much of the groundwork long set in Android's voice search/command.

The competition can only mean good things, though, you're right.

Its not even rumor; Duarte confirmed as much in the verge interview.

That video is really impressive. Hope it works well outside the US (Australia, particularly - Siri seems to have lots of issues here)

Just posted this in the jb thread but may get an answer faster here.

Help please android gaf! I just had my screen on my sgs2 replaced and they took my cm9 and replaced it with carrier branded 4.0.3 which i hate.

Should i root again or wait for cyanogen mod to release a jellybean version? How far off do you think that will be realistically? Do we have to wait for Samsung to release the source code?? Im a bit of a noob with this stuff sorry

there will probably be non-CM versions on xda fairly quickly once google release the jelly bean source (mid July i think?), I'd expect a delay of like a week or so before theres a CM version for it, and it may or may not take a Samsung update to get everything working perfectly.

I'd hope that 4.0 and 4.1 are sufficiently similar that most things should work without the samsung source though

Great thanks mate. I think ill wait.

Wait, what? I always see that radial when invoking gnow. I guess if you do it fast enough, you can miss it, but I like to fiddle around with the sparkly "cursor".

yeah, that literally always happens when you long-press the home button. drag your finger up and you are in google now.

mescalineeyes, since I know for sure you won't be blinded by Android love, how are you finding Google Now? Is it useful and does it really bring up relevant data?
