If Adam ever actually comes out and lives up to the claims, it's so mine. I've been drooling over that for months now.

If they're having money problems, the can just sell the prototype on eBay. I'm sure someone would buy it for a couple thousand dollars. :lol

Still don't understand the Tablet niche, be it Apple or Other.

Laptops suck imo. So do netbooks. Phones are pretty powerful and awesome, but bigger the screen, the better.

I think the Dell Streak is the perfect thing. I don't really want a tablet, but I want a phone with the biggest screen possible for browsing, gaming, and media.

They are for people that don't want netbooks or laptops. It's not that hard to understand.

Reading stuff. Until they make color e-ink devices without a ton of restrictions on formats that can be used (RE: Never) they'll have a niche.

Tablets have a couple of advantages. Being touch-screen, they are inherently easier to learn to use. Also, they usually have no moving or move-able parts, which is great for dependability and portability.

Do you guys still think the Nexus One is a safe buy at $530? Or will there be a Nexus Two announced anytime soon? Android selection in Canada is pathetic, this seems to be the only thing worth getting.

Yes.

I really don't care that a phone is a bit bigger than usual. "Oh no! He can afford and uses a phone with a big awesome screen, how embarrassing!"

Who cares. Better media, better browsing, better gaming. Yes please.

I had a MyTouch3G for just over a year when last week I went swimming with it in my pocket. Woops. Anyway, I got a Desire as a replacement, and holy shit does this rape the MT3G to death. I had my MyTouch rooted as soon as devices stopped regularly bricking whilst doing so, and I loved all the flashing and whatnot, but right now I wouldn't even want to root my Desire, let alone flash anything on it. This'll probably change as I get bored, but honestly, everything is so, so, so much easier. Browser, multi-tasking, everything. I used to think sitting on the sofa on my MT3G on the web was cool, but I still wished I were on my PC (in terms of browsing). Now, I honestly don't care.

So, spec wise, the Streak is basically an EVO 4G with a bigger screen but no 4G, HDMI or 2nd Camera?

It has a 2nd camera

And it doesn't have Sense, but has Dell's own GUI

and it's exactly what I've been waiting for

Afford? That’s not the issue at all. The thing is heavy and big. Carrying a man-purse every day for every occasion isn’t viable to me.

The Streak fits in your pocket unless you wear those skinny jeans.

Fitting is one thing, being comfortable is another. 220 grams along with my car keys and wallet weighing down my pants or shorts isn’t happening.

be an artist who uses a graphic tablet. then you will understand.

Yep, I use a Motion Computing LE1600 with Windows7 installed. The great thing about it is I get 6+ hours of battery life, 180 degree view-anywhere display, it's under an inch thick, has a snap on keyboard that turns it into a laptop and can act as a screen cover or dock, plus the tablet uses a wacom digitizer. VGA and DVI out too. :)

I also use it with Ultravnc to control my HTPC from anywhere in the house.

Fits easily in my backpack for school as well.

Fuck, that sounds disturbingly arousing...How much?

I could use some help/guidance from the Android owners on this board.

I'm considering buying a HTC Hero and selling my iPhone 3G. I'm just not that satisfied with the iPhones OS. I have two questions:

Is the current Android OS more stable than the iPhone's (less lock-ups, better use of RAM)?

I've also read on Wiki that the HTC Hero's screen is 16-Bit (65,536 colors) while the iPhone 3G (or does this only apply to the 3GS) is 18-Bit (262,144 colors). Is this true and if so, is it noticeable?

i've had an FC here or there (probably 3 in the time i've owned an android phone) on an app, but the market is usually pretty good at pointing out the bad apps. I've never had an issue with the OS as a whole. I've also recently given up my use of a task killer and i can't tell the difference, i think the OS does a pretty good job of clearing out suspended apps when space is needed

I'd recommend if you're going to get a new Android phone and be stuck in a 2 year contract to spend another hundred bucks or so if possible and get one of the current crop of phones like the Incredible or EVO. EVO would be first recommendation right now.

I'm actually buying a phone this time. Selling my white iPhone 3G will net me a good sum here in Sweden.

I'm thinking about importing a Nexus. The HTC Evo 4G isn't here yet.

Thanks for the tips :)

Ah, sorry, I just assumed you were from the US. :D The Nexus should be quite a bit more speedy than the Hero as well, though.

I wouldn't buy a Hero at this point. If you want to get an Android phone I'd recommend either and EVO, Incredible, Desire or Nexus One. You can't go wrong with any of them. Maybe even consider the Droid too?

I have a 3GS and a Nexus One and far prefer Google's handset. That's not to say it's perfect, but it's the better of the two as far as I'm concerned. I do love my iPhone too though, and obviously far prefer the App Store to the Android Market... but Android is open and the phones are so customizable, I don't think I could go back to using an iPhone as my daily driver.

If cost is an issue and you simply can't afford a newer Android handset, then yes, the Hero would be fine... but I'm not sure I'd call it an improvement over an iPhone. The colours you probably won't notice much. My HD2 can only display 65k colours and while I can sometimes see banding, nothing has ever looked anything but stunning on the screen. Maybe I'm just not that sensitive to it though.

I'd prefer if they made the keyboard slide out. The device looks pretty thin so its not like that would make it monstrously thick.
I'd tend to agree, mostly from the standpoint that affixing the KB like that makes it more awkward for switching to a landscape orientation.

The EVO and Incredible won't get Euro releases. I thought you were from the US.

In that case, your choices are the Milestone, Nexus One, Legend or Desire. If you like the Hero's design then the Legend is the closest thing to it... obviously, being the direct successor. It's got fantastic build quality, but isn't as fast as the Desire or Nexus. The Milestone is killer whichever way you look at it, and the Desire and N1 are pretty much the same phone... save for Sense - which can be disabled on the Desire or flashed onto the Nexus.

Personally, I like my N1. I nearly bought a Milestone, but held off and bought the N1 as soon as it was available. Don't be put off by reported issues as I haven;t had any problems with mine and 2.2 flies!

So... what's up with this? (Battery Testing thread from AndroidCentral, interesting data linked inside.)

I'm not sure how legitimate the sites linked from that topic are at all, but it strikes me as odd that so many people tout the Seidios and whatnot and they supposedly pack less capacity than OEM batts. Anyone who uses Seidio extended batteries want to chime in? I've seen tons of people say that they're very happy with it and that they broke their batteries in and saw pretty good performance increases. How could that be a placebo?

Acer 7in tablet by end of 2010...maybe

Looks pretty slim in that picture.

That looks really slick. Come on Acer, get this thing out as early as possible while the market isn't flooded with Android tablets! :P

The keys look really flat though, hopefully that isn't a problem. Overall, a very distinctive and interesting form factor that could turn out great (except horizontal mode, as mentioned, but the only time I'd use that is when watching videos or something, not necessarily using the keyboard.)

It also looks like they're using a largely-unmodified version of Android 2.x. Don't see Google's apps anywhere though.
