It looks a little tacky I think. Had they gone with a little more muted color and styling I would like it a lot better I think.
And they say Iphone users get more sex....

They really missed the boat. I'm sure some Star War fans will like what they did.

I think they should have use the Android mascot and gave him an R2-D2 paint coat:

OH MY GOD.

I will switch carriers, pay the fee AND pony up what ever they want for a PSPhone. Do want.

PSPhone would be hot. I've been calling for it since I got my Walkman phone. I like the idea of an Android-powered device. I hope it's stock Android too. Their skin sucks. PEACE.

Anyone else having trouble ending a call on the Samsung Galaxy S / Captivate?
Sometimes it works fine. But others, the screen is black, I can't unlock it, and I have no clue what's going on :(. Usually takes about 20-30 seconds for the screen to pop back. Seemingly no button does anything while the screen is out.

Never had that problem, that's a weird one O.o.

Yeah, all I could find on the internet is one other person with the same problem.

I was happy to lay my hands on this new phone but on the 2nd day onwards, the expectations drops. The phone started to act up after a call, I couldn't 'end' the call?! The screen froze, power button doesn't work then I had to remove the battery.

EDIT:
Just found one more:
I hate this phone! I've had it just over a week. People I call cannot hear me or they say I sound like a robot, it takes 3-4 hours to fully charge, to end a call I have to completely power off the phone and -- regarding design, putting the volume button across from the power button is just dumb.

:-/ that's bad to hear. I always make fun of my girlfriend for popping out her blackberry battery. Not that my 3G is all that reliable either.

Make sure you're not covering the proximity sensor. I'm not sure where that is on the Galaxy S. On the Eris, it's right where I would swipe my left thumb down on the screen. There have been a few times where the proximity sensor seemed 'stuck.' I would just cover it and uncover it once or twice and the screen would come back on.

I been having issues with my Galaxy S in which it turns itself off :/

Im reading this is happening to others online too. At first I figured it was my pocket holding the button but it just happened while sitting on my desk...

wait they are saying that PSPhone might come out this year? Japan first my guess?

I feel like dropping my DX for now and just ride it out with pre-paid phone

I doubt the phone will come out this year but I guess it's possible, didn't they show off the X10 last fall and we're just now getting it. I still would like to know more about the specs before dropping my DX but I only have a few days left to return it...

Gartner and IDC agree: the Android invasion's accelerating around the world

10x0812ob2352tere.jpg

Last quarter we reported on some pretty stellar growth numbers for Android in the global smartphone marketplace. Back then, Google's OS had a 9.6 percent slice of the pie, but today that's ballooned to a robust 17.2 percent, meaning that in terms of end-user sales over the last three months, Android has nearly matched RIM's BlackBerry sales. That's quite the feat when you consider that a year ago the latter was shifting ten times more units than the former. This fast pace of growth has narrowed down Symbian's lead at the top, in spite of Nokia's favorite OS actually shipping on more phones this year, while the big loser of the quarter has to be Windows Mobile, which contracted both in terms of market share and actual shipments.

Overall, smartphone sales were up by 50 percent year-on-year, according to both Gartner and IDC, while Gartner adds that mobile devices as a whole grew at a tamer 13.3 percent rate. In terms of phone manufacturers' global share, Nokia and Samsung have held on to their top positions, LG, Sony Ericsson and Motorola have experienced some uncomfortable shrinkage, and HTC, RIM and Apple have capitalized to expand their portions. Looking over to IDC's smartphone share data shows, again, that all smartphone makers are growing remarkably well, but it does highlight HTC (129 percent) and Samsung (173 percent) as really improving their presence in the sector. The reason? Android, Android, Android.

ITS GOING TO COST LESS THAN THE CHEAPEST IPAD.

BOUGHT.

$498. Wi-Fi, 3G, and GPS.

http://www.slashgear.com/notion-ink-adam-pricing-and-more-1297402/

November 2010 to January 2011 window in which the tablet could be launched. If approval is secured in November, they tell us, they’ll be shipping Adam by air to hit US shelves as soon as possible. If approval doesn’t come through until January, however, then the retail launch will be at CES 2011, a year after the first prototype made its debut.

So I'm upgrading my crappy old phone this coming Tuesday...

Is it worth getting the Droid 2 for $199 or should I settle on the Droid for $99? Droid has the B1G1 deal so I can split the cost with my brother, but I do love me some of that technology omnom.

Whats the Pixel IQ stuff vs. LCD?

PixelQi is basically LCD, except there's a toggle for it to act like e-ink (such as the Amazon Kindle), but with much higher refresh rates (video is possible.) The NotionInk screen also has a "transflective" layer, that reflects the light around the screen. So basically, using it in daylight, you can have a really freaking bright screen. Example:

Just so you know, since you quoted the image, that's not an image of the phone.

Well duh! They have to add a qwerty kbd in between the buttons!

Evo or Epic? I'm thinking Epic for the kbd if nothing else. Any other considerations?

It says it has the Android Market... if true, device of the forever. Forgive my skepticism though... I'll believe that particular bullet point when I see it. :D

Technically, the Android 2.2 CTD does allow non-phone devices, but AFAIK Android's built in resolutions only go up to VGA. So if it does have it, then it obviously has all the hardware components to earn Google's blessing (GPS in all the models was probably a sticking point) and they added in better resolution support for whatever skin they're using.

any idea on who the 3g is with? i'll probably go with the non3g and use my phone as a hotspot anyway... no need to get raped twice for internet access

Im going to exchange my samsung captivate for a new one. Freakin frustrating because its turning itself off alot. Should all my Apps be saved on the download list for my new phone?

kindle? I know. it's an ebook reader but still.

Yeah, I dunno. I think it would be best to assume at this point that like the iPad before it, it will be attached to a carrier charging a monthly rate. :( I don't think there's any way to feasibly release what is essentially a netbook-type device on the market with free 3G access, because the data usages of such a device are much closer an actual computer, versus an ebook reader.

Double post to separate.

Yes, they should be, but there are two caveats: one, sometimes they are not hooked to your account, for some odd reason. For example, if I wipe my phone (for flashing stuff), and I come back to the Market on my new OS, the market makes me reaccept the terms of service stuff, and there's nothing in my download list. I would either maintain a separate list, or use appbrain to keep account of what you want/have.

Two, if there is something in your download list, you should download everything right there, without leaving the downloads list (maybe) or the market (definitely). If you do, the market download list will reset to what you currently have, so anything you had way back when will no longer be there. It will essentially write over the list of app you used to have with the list you currently have, if you leave half way through redownloading all of them.

Bottomline, go the appbrain way.

I think that's implemented for Froyo but not pre-Froyo. Android backs up things like settings but when you go to the market and downloads on your new captivate you'll only see the things you've purchased.

The easiest way to fix this is downloading the AppBrain app and syncing your apps to your list on the site. Then when you get the new one install Fast Web Installer and install them all over from the site over the air.

There may be a more direct way of doing it but the last time I did this I thought that syncing with AppBrain on the new phone would bring back the apps but it instead wiped them from the site since nothing was on the new phone so it may take a couple minutes but it's the best advice I have. Apps like MyBackup Pro back up the .APKs with AT&T blocks.

I'm going with the Epic. Got my preorder in today. Can't wait for the 31st! :D

$540 to get a droid 2 and move from my droid. Ouch. Can prob. sell the OG droid for what, $250? It's fantastic condition of course.

Ask yourself why you want the Droid 2 and realize a month after you buy it there will probably be the release of the Droid Pro and it will probably have a 4inch+ screen and a front camera.

Make sure the phone you buy has everything you want and you dont just want it because its new or slightly better!

As much as this interests me, and as much as I love my Android phone, I still am hesitant about what kind of application support we could possibly see for an Android tablet when Android phone application support is still a tad bit sketchy in certain quarters.
I expect that Gingerbread will clarify this situation.
