Is the retail Droid X price known?

I'm really digging the T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant online video, since it's similar to the AT&T Captivate video. I hope someone brings versions of these to TV. The Galaxy S has potential, but a lot of times these campaigns and cool videos are online only.

The Samsung Instinct may not have been the best phone or legitamately better than (or even on) iPhone's level, but it was a solid feature phone and had killer online ads. There were videos comparing the Instinct and the iPhone doing tasks, and Instinct won in all of them. They were never on tv though, which surprised me. They made a strong case and if "Instinct Wins!" videos, or something like them, hit tv it would only have helped sales and reputation.

I haven't done much research into it but it seems like Samsung is going to stop at Froyo with the Galaxy S and then have Gingerbread on the the successor even though the Galaxy S is more than capable of handling it.

That is actually why I wouldn't buy one. Great specs, but an uneven update history with Samsung. Though its specs are good enough for Gingerbread I am sure, personally I want a company that will almost assuredly update it to 3.0

Jebus! Verizon is the only provider that can actually promote Android!
Everyone else seems to fail at it, even Google smh.
Well, they are the richest carrier that actually cares about android.

if they are in fact ditching custom UIs then the road to 3 is going to be a rocky one for a lot of phones. carriers like having their shit in your face all the time for some reason

The Galaxy S line is awesome -- the benchmarks poop over so many phones (even my Incredible). I've recommended the Vibrant to a co-worker, we're both disappointed at the lack of camera flash.

What's the interface like on the Samsungs? My old one was horrendous (and my mums touch screen one isn't much better...). The specs sound really cool, but Samsung's strong point is not their interface design and styling.

Is it something you can remove to install the 'standard' Android releases?

just slap Launcher Pro or ADW and u can forget iPhone-like Ui (yuck)

which I'll be doing for DX. Blur (meh)

That Droid X commercial was pretty cool, I'll never buy the phone but the commercial reminds me of the HALO 3: ODST commercial. Pretty cinematic.

So I'm thinking of upgrading to Droid X tomorrow. I got an email from Verizon saying I can upgrade for $199, even though I re upped the contract when the original droid came out.

I'm in the dark about it so what are the advantages of it over Droid? Does it have keybaord?

And the big question. Can I transfer market apps to new phone?

I don't know. From the benchmarks done, the processing power of the Hummingbird featured in the Captivate (Verizon's Galaxy S) is really impressive. More bang for your buck when the Captivate comes out.

Droid X orders are up now on VZW.com. I just ordered mine + the car dock + charger + screen protector for $215 & change. Free overnight shipping so it will be to my house on Friday. I'm out of town this weekend, but that's still exciting to come home to it on Monday.

Use the coupon code PRMCD10 to save 10%. :)

Finally rid of this piece of shit Storm.

the apps is tied to ur google account like XBL, PSN, Steam, or iPhone.
No, keyboard, but with huge real estate of the screen it'll be easy to type.
here's a good review with size comparison with other devices http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/Motorola-DROID-X-MB810-Review-review-r_2466.html

I'm not seeing it, my storm just died, so I am taking it as a sign and buying.

Trying to put in an order here before I head to bed. Still not showing up though. :/

Are there any special upgrade deals for Moto Droid owners to the droid x?

I have a two year plan and I started in early November so I don't think it will matter for me anyway. But I am just wondering.

I got an Email saying I could upgrade for $199 and a new contract. I also renewed last November. Going to stop by a Verizon store to morrow and take a look at it, might upgrade.

I'm in CDT. It looks like some people in EDT are having trouble ordering? Not sure what the deal is. I was able to use the link & order. Maybe try to clear your cookies, etc?

Interesting, I didn't get an email from them, but I will give verizon a call tomorrow and see what's up.

Its an IP address thing, my girlfriends phone can get to the page but our computers cannot.

I hate that its hard for me to justify spending $300 for a game console that could last me for 5 years at least but I'm fine with spending $600 on a phone that I will likely want to replace in a year.

I'm sorry my Nexus One but I want Project Emerald.

I'm not really up on the Android phones, and AT&T's site isn't much help. Basically I want an iphone that has a real keypad and is a little more flexible. Are there any Android phones like that? Seems like the best non-iPhones aren't carried by AT&T.

I wouldn't really buy an ATT android phone, mostly because they're more locked down than other carriers (cant install nonmarket apps.)

If you must, I think theres some version of the Galaxy S on ATT, right? (I mean, it feels like theres one for every carrier.)

Are you tied to AT&T? The best phone to be released soon is probably the Sprint Epic. Keyboard, 4G speeds, only possible issue is its made by Samsung.

If not, not sure about any alternatives though AT&T is known to lock down third party access of apps.

I don't believe the intent is to necessarily ditch custom UI's, simply to make them less necessary. However, I suspect a side-effect will be that modifying it may be simpler? If that's the case, then it means quicker updates for phones that do use custom UI's.

BTW - I'm pissed, I was stuck at work and missed out taking a run for Droid X Designate # 13.

It ended up being at the Anchor Bar :lol (credited for inventing the Buffalo Wing).

Yeah I'm locked in with AT&T. I'm not knocking the iPhone. Like I said, I don't really keep up with the phones, and I've enjoyed my iPhone. But I find the text input annoying.

Wasn't trying to fan any flames. Thanks for the responses.

It's amusing. I've pointed out this paradox to so many people. It doesn't matter ... even being fully knowledgeable of the contradiction, they will continue to bitch about the prices for all sorts of things but have no issue with yearly phone and MP3 player updates :p

I'm sorry my Nexus One but I want Project Emerald.

Noice.

I'm waiting to see how Emerald turns out. I'm quite happy to hop onto T-Mobile. If it doesn't work out, I may actually go with the Nexus One.

Umm ... AT&T would need to actually have 4G speeds for it to matter :lol

I am having a hard time deciding. I haven't ever had an internet capable phone and know I will get one eventually, but don't know if it is worth it now (it will be a 60 dollar jump from my current plan). Would those of you currently with android devices say it is worth it?

The Epic is the same as AT&T's Captivate for the most part (with the obvious differentces of slide out keyboard and ffc)

Personally, I'd stay away from ANY of the Galaxy S phones, though. They are lovely pieces of tech, but Samsung is notorious for not updating their phones. Behold II JUST got 1.6 a month or so ago.

LOL, I have the same problem as well. I will not buy a blu-ray player or ps3, yet if a new unlock phone releases... I'm the first to get it.

Yes, I will buy unlocked phones in a heartbeat, it's pathetic, but fuck.

I am in love with my Evo but I know it's only going to be the true business until the end of this year if that. Once 2011 hits and these phones come with new processors and preloaded with whatever Android version is out (3.0?), have better res screens (thanks iPhone 4!) I will be buying whichever the latest and greatest is for Sprint.

I have faith that Sprint will have one of those phones. Verizon (definitely Verizon) and Sprint are on their Android game. AT&T and T-Mobile not so much but that will change hopefully.

Well, they were rooted, so... custom ROMs ^^ (maybe in the future?)

EDIT: Oh, there already is a custom ROM for it, just not with froyo.
