Yeah would be awesome if it were stock android, and I'm sure the bootloader is locked down.

Didn't stop the community from from bringing custom roms to the droid x.

Honestly, I wouldn't let Moto Blur get in the way here. You can always use a different home launcher anyway until rooting is a possibility; and there are still parts of Blur that really set the Droid X apart from other phones (incredible facebook integration that rivals what we see with win phone 7 for instance, the finger drag cursor placement, an incredible dialer with all of Sense's benefits). The rest though (especially the widgets)...blegh

having a bootloader locked down mean you can't install a custom rom? I'm unfamiliar with this concept.

No it doesn't. It just means we have to build on Motorola's kernel releases instead of getting stuff like cyanogen whenever. You're basically playing by Moto's scheduled releases rather than what Google does first. It's not as bad as you think though; Motorola is VERY good about timely releases and supporting their platforms for quite some time.

Now if it was Samsung and locked bootloaders... :lol

Until someone performs a hail Mary pass and breaks it like they did with the X you wont be able to.

Yeah that's true they still came to the Droid X but whenever Motorola decides not to upgrade the X anymore it would be stuck on that version of Android while if the bootloader was unlocked it would be able to stay up to date.

For example the Droid Eris only got updated to 2.1 but there are already 2.3 builds for it.

You're absolutely correct. Which is why I mentioned that Moto has been good about updating. I'm sure at the very least, we'll see gingerbread.

I thought HTC would have smarten up with battery life as well. IMO smartphones should last at least a day stock. I have a friend with the EVO and when I question the battery life, he told me, "well with the extended battery I get a little over a day!".
While I agree with the notion that it's always better to have more battery life, my EVO is rarely below 80% when I put it back on the charger in the evening. I can easily go two days on a charge, and often do. Stock battery. As in all things, mileage does vary.

that reminds me. I have to try that out. Poor Eris gets no love ever since I got my hands on the G2.

are you using 4g? or do you have that disabled? My friend is no power user, but he rarely lasts a day on stock battery.

interest in thunderbolt rising again....

UI looks very impressive, hopefully some of the polish and improvements make it over to the next phone release. Can't wait for someone to port it to x86 so I can run it on my netbook too.

That tablet interface looks fucking amazing. Unlike the iPad, this actually seems to make use of the larger screen real estate. It's the first interesting, useful tablet I've seen.

When will the Honeycomb SDK be out and third party apps be made?

Very Tron-like. Looks great!
Looks fugly to me. But the UI and apps look good, and Android is easy to theme, so not not bothered.

No, just 3G, and that switches to WiFi when I am home. That definitely makes a difference, since the 3G signal at my house is pretty weak. That would tend to burn more battery if I needed it as my data connection, but wifi seems very easy on the battery. 4G isn't really available in my area, but I don't think I will use it much even when it's available. It'll be an occasional use thing. Tethering, video chatting, that sort of thing. For everything else, 3G seems fine, really.

I'm definitely not a power user. Many days the phone will stay in my pocket for pretty much the whole work day. I'm sitting in front of a computer anyway, so why use phone instead? However, even on those occasional days where I am more of a power user, there hasn't been a problem. Need to watch two full length movies on a plane? No prob. Need to browse the web and constantly Google Talk your buddy for hours while stuck waiting for jury duty? Again, no prob. On that sort of day, I might be down to 30% or so at bedtime.

I know of one thing that will kill my battery: GPS navigation. Constant backlight, constant screen rendering, constant downloading, and constant GPS receiver use. Do that for more than a hour, and your battery will be quite unhappy. Heck, even when plugged into the cigarette lighter, the battery can still slowly lose ground.

But for what I need the Evo to do, battery life is a complete non-issue. It's ample. More than ample.

Surely google should drop the current numbering convention? This is a complete overhaul for tablets, but what is "3.0" for phones?

Apart from a widget enabled desktop, the UI is pretty similar to iOS for iPad.

Motorola's press conference is in about an hour hopefully their tablet will be there and will show more of 3.0.

Well, it makes sense, doesn't it? To announce it just before...

I have a hard time rooting for Motorola despite the fact they're the one who really pushed Android... The Milestone got me hooked but it was so buggy. :/

Damn, Honeycomb looks awesome. I might be giving my dad my iPad and switching over to the new tablet when it comes out in June. <3 my Droid X and Android.

Widgets definitely suit the form factor but other than that it's not really anything that exciting, wonder if they'll show it off on 9 or 7 inch.

OH MY GOD I WAS OUT NOW I'M BACK! OMG ALL OVER MY TITS PLEASE!

jesus that looks gorgeous! I knew android wouldn't let me down and holding out on an iPad for this would be worth it.

And yay! appropriate widgets!

How am I going to live without the MoPad now? I WANT ONE NAAAO! Also, how long till their thing?

I must be missing something. I don't see anything in that video that's superior to iPad in any way, aside from flash support. I mean, it looks great, but it looks equivalent.

(sent from my iPad, which I use as my primary home computer...)

as time goes on, the android os looks more and more impressive. if only it had the mass amount of users that the idevices has

I wouldn't say its better but more desktop like.

I personally like how it handles home screen setup. That's what stood out for me.

The UI layout is still pretty standard for the most part in that video, but the graphics are pretty nice looking for a change. Definitely would like to see more.

That feature alone would make me switch. But that's me.

I'm using it in the background right now. Maybe there are glitches with certain apps, or maybe those reviews are for an old version.
