How come he keeps saying 2Ghz just because it's dual core 1Ghz.

Marketing speak of course. I personally thought that form of "analogy" had died out a long time ago alongside the "64bit" Jaguar, but apparently not.

Anyway, these devices are really cool, annoying marketing or not.

That was a video playing on the actual tablet? What's the point if it's playing a segment of the video moments before?

So it's a video.. of the maps app?:lol

I was on GAF so when I switched back I thought he was actually using the Map app. Then I realised the twist

fail

Pretty much. You have a shell laptop (screen, keyboard, battery) and you just plug it in and use the phone as a computer.

Honeycomb looks like a tablet exclusive OS....so what's the point of ChromeOS?????

I don't think 3.0 will be on phones :|

Yeah but it's definitely not Android. Some kind of desktop Linux build that either the phone switches to when it's docked and then virtualises an Android instance, or runs off the internals of the dock itself. I'm tempted to think it's running off the dock itself, as perhaps running a desktop and an Android instance on top of that might be too much for the phone to handle.

no they made it pretty clear that everything is running on the phone. they swapped docks from the TV dock to the laptop dock and it resumed the same instance.

Oh OK, interesting.

Xperia Arc hands-on by Engadget.

The cat is out of the bag, Sony! We just walked into Sony's CES press conference and look at what we found hanging around in the back? It's Sony's Xperia Arc, and it is one slim smartphone with a concave back. According to the placard it has a "Reality Display" with a Mobile BRAVIA Engine. We're not sure what those fancy words mean, but the display is definitely extremely bright and crisp -- like AMOLED bright and crisp. We don't know the exact measurements of the handset, but it looks just as thin as the iPhone... if not thinner. Other than that we know it has an mini-HDMI port and runs Android 2.3. It also has a Sony Exmor R camera. We should be learning much more about this thing as soon as it becomes "official," but until then hit the break for some hands on shots.

The ASUS Pad and Slider both seem really interesting right now. But both are Android based. If you're interested in Steam, you're going to need something running Windows. Plus I'd like to see how both ASUS devices pan out too. Too early to say, so for now, I think something traditional is the safer bet if you need something sooner than later. I don't think a lot of this stuff will shake out in feasibility until Summer at the earliest with delays pushing a lot of stuff until the Fall.

They are just trolling on me today...

j/k, I think will wait and end up getting a really cheap incredible once all the new phones are out or just get the Bionic

+

Netbook running on Amd fusion or w/e Intel can cook up to compete with it

Very, VERY exciting. Can't wait to get a new phone this November!
Holy fuck that Gmail app on honeycomb is godlike... the rest of the UI I'm not so sure about yet, I'm not even sure what was going on in some of those little clips.

Uhm, google has said many times that ChromeOS is for devices with keyboards (laptops) and Android is for touch devices.

T-Mobile's press release announcing the "G-Slate" Tablet in conjunction with LG just hit the wires. Not much info on it though, other than that it will be 4G and will be available in "coming months"

http://press.t-mobile.com/articles/T-Mobile-LG-Announce-First-4G-Android-3-0-Powered-Tablet

The T-Mobile G-Slate will be among the first 4G tablets to fully benefit from the tablet-optimized Android 3.0 platform, which was designed from the ground up for devices with larger screen sizes and addresses the unique aspects of tablet use cases and form factors. The Honeycomb user experience improves on Android favorites such as widgets, multi-tasking, browsing, notifications and customization. It will also feature the latest Google Mobile innovations including Google Maps™ 5.0 with 3D interaction, collection of more than 3 million eBooks and Google Talk™ with video and voice chat.

It sounds like the perfect netbook replacement IMO. Keyboard, 4G (kinda), super light (since it is just a shell).

If it's cheap enough and the Webtop software implementation doesn't suck, sure.

Icognito mode and Chrome bookmark syncing are apparently in the Honeycomb browser

Honeycomb is the next version of the Android platform, designed from the ground up for devices with larger screen sizes, particularly tablets. We’ve spent a lot of time refining the user experience in Honeycomb, and we’ve developed a brand new, truly virtual and holographic user interface. Many of Android’s existing features will really shine on Honeycomb: refined multi-tasking, elegant notifications, access to over 100,000 apps on Android Market, home screen customization with a new 3D experience and redesigned widgets that are richer and more interactive. We’ve also made some powerful upgrades to the web browser, including tabbed browsing, form auto-fill, syncing with your Google Chrome bookmarks, and incognito mode for private browsing.

Damn you Tmo. I need more.

Bah. I don't care if the mobile internet aspect of a tablet is tied to a specific carrier; once I don't have to pay Galaxy Tab money ( with contract!) I'm for it.

Wow, the Cliq keyboard looks awful :lol

I think it looks pretty neat actually, may not be bad to use either. Of course I wouldn't consider it, but it might work for people who want a little spazz in their phones' design.

God, Android is still fucking hideous. I'll stick with my iPad for a tablet.

Troll elsewhere.
GTFO. I was one of the first on GAF to own a Nexus One. Doesn't change the fact Android is hideous. It looks even more horrible on the larger tablet screens.

As was I and I haven't the faintest idea how you could think that one grid of icons looks so much better than another grid of icons.

Well, to be honest it's all about the polish. Android kind of reminds me of Windows 95 in some visual ways. Needs a visual update.

And a wall of random icons.....isn't?

At the very least, one OS will let you change the hideousness, and the other mostly wont.

.

edit: Windows 95?!?

I highly suggest anyone bitching about the android "look" (whatever that may actually be) look here:

Elegance, polish, finish, consistency. Android has none of these. It was supposed to be coming for a long time and we haven't seen much of it at all.

Great, I can rely on other people to fix Google's mess! Like Sense, Blur, TouchWiz...
