Great, I can rely on other people to fix Google's mess! Like Sense, Blur, TouchWiz...

A change for preference is good. I agree. But what Android puts out isn't good. You're changing because of a subpar effort rather than changing based on preference.kinggroin said:....huh? Maybe im just missing something here, but I thought that being able to do exactly that was android's strength? Don't like what you see? Change it however you like.

I'm in CES mode right now, so I won't go into detail, but you might want to check out these apps:ItAintEasyBeinCheesy said:Gaf i got a HTC Legend, whats some good shit i should put on it?
No you didn't. I'm assuming all other manufacturers found out about NFC just last month too. Many of the devices announced today are still at 2.2 froyo anyway so a nfc chip was never on the agenda for them.Bboy AJ said:I've noticed no phones with NFC. before any iOS fans start gloating:Bboy AJ said:]There's no way to change some UI inconsistencies either, like copy and paste. At least to my knowledge. Guaranteed Honeycomb will have several such UI inconsistencies. I'll eat my hat if it doesn't.
Chris Clark said:The quote is from Engadgets review of the latest device in Android land. John Gruber pulls it from a mostly positive review as a small example of whats wrong with Android: lots of tiny inconsistencies stacked high enough to be infuriating. I cant pass much comment because I dont have an Android phone: the iPhone is the only smartphone Ive ever owned and used day to day, so my opinion is pretty worthless in comparing platforms, but this segment of the quote, as cherry-picked by me from Johns larger cherry-picking, applies just as much to iOS as Android.Joshua Topolsky said:In the browser, you long press on text to bring up your anchors, then drag and tap the center of your selection -- boom, copied text. In text editing fields, however, in order to select a word you must long press on the word, wait for a contextual menu to pop up, and then select "select word" -- a completely counterintuitive process. In the message app you can long press to select only the entire message, and in Google Reader?
On iOS, text selection is largely up to the app developer. Theres a lot of text you simply cant select in apps; try selecting a song name in the iPod app, for example no dice. Sometimes long-holding an element of the UI lets you copy the entire text of the held element, such as in Messages and Calculator, with no fine-selection mechanism. In Safari and other web views you long-hold and it selects the nearest word (or contents of the nearest DOM node, it depends on your zoom level) and then you can fine-tune your selection by dragging handles before hitting the Copy button. In text fields, long-hold doesnt give you any selection, but gives you a menu to select the nearest word, or select all text, then you can copy. Still on text fields, if you double-tap-and-drag in one motion you get a selection over the dragged area, and you can then hit Copy.
iOS is probably a better mobile operating system for most people, the same way (to borrow an example from Steve Jobs) a Prius is probably a better vehicle than a pickup truck for most people. Be that as it may, consistency of text selectionor just lack of small infuriating inconsistenciesisnt something it can brag about.

Knock yourself out.
I suggest trying out different home launchers:
Launcher Pro
ADW EX
GO Launcher

And the bar is ugly as balls. Frankly I'm not fond of 3.0 at all so far. Gingerbread was going places with the green, and honeycomb just feels totally separate...and not in a good way.giga said:So if you havent noticed yet, 3.0 always has this bar on the bottom of UI. I assume this is to compensate for the demise of physical search/back/home buttons? Not sure if killing all physical buttons is prudent.

I guess the buttons on the bottom bar are Back, Home and Menu?giga said:So if you havent noticed yet, 3.0 always has this bar on the bottom of UI. I assume this is to compensate for the demise of physical search/back/home buttons? Not sure if killing all physical buttons is prudent.

My friend has a Droid X and it seems to be slower than it should be. Is there anything I could do to it to make it snappier and just an overall better experience for her? She is updated with the new software, but should she be Rooted or whatever?
Thanks

They're saying Q1 for the Atrix.. but that could be as late as April. And I don't want to wait that long.![]()

I suggest Launcher Pro the most, and if you like it buy the Pro version. It sped up my X.

I really wish more Android tablets would be 4:3.
I really want a 4:3 tablet with widgets. Is that too much to ask for?
