If they delayed the full gingerbread release and 2.4 came with SIP calling through voice and gtalk video calling along with full hardware acceleration i'd be happy to forgive.

Honestly the market in general is behind where some of geeks thought it would be. In reality most of us are still where we were last fall, and will stay that way probably for Q1 and maybe Q2.

I mean realistically speaking gingerbread just hit, and is hardly really out yet. Heck most phones just got or are getting their froyo updates. This isn't a Google only thing either.

Apple had to play catch up with iOS4 on the ipad. MS is obviously working on bigger things for WP7, but it's taking time so don't expect much feature wise other than copy and paste till probably Q2 if not Q3 or Q4. Rolling out a nationwide LTE network isn't gonna happen over night either for the likes of Att or even Verizon outside of major major metro areas.

I think what most geeks wanted hopes for or maybe expected now is more of what will happen in the 2nd half of the year verses the first.
 
Game Fucking Over. Atrix 4G is now the phone to beat. They (meaning Moto) have figured out how to do file management. THIS IS HUGE!

This isn't evolutionary, this is revolutionary.... like Apple style revolutionary. It will be very interesting to see where Steve takes the iPhone after this.

yeah, December was the timeframe when reality checking hit. LTE phones were going to be 2Q to mid of 11, etc. Google music hitting issues, google TV hitting issues, gingerbread slowed down. Thats just on google's side, like you said, all the time spent bring IOS4 to ipad, etc for apple

such a shame the x10 has like 384MB of RAM, it should handle 2.2 much better than my milestone
 
Damn it. I'm getting hosed by this lull in product advancements.

I recently switched to a Verizon family plan to capitalize on their limited time offer to waive the $9.99 fee for an additional line. So that I can wait for a newer phone, I activated a friend's old BlackBerry 8330, thereby hanging on to my discount to use at a later time. I thought I would get the Thunderbolt right away, but it's single core -- and now I'm thinking I need to wait for the Bionic, which is probably 5 months away. I don't know if I can do 5 months on a BlackBerry, and a really underpowered one at that.
 
any indication on how well (or long) the nexus one will be supported with future android versions?

The cel provider I am looking to switch to (Videotron) only has the nexus one, I am hesitant to lock myself down on a phone that is technically discontinued.

I feel the sting of having a second gen Ipod Touch with the new apps that are now available. I know nothing of Android but do not want to repeat the experience,

I really like Dual Core too but if that's the only thing holding you back then just get the thunderbolt. Dual Core is great, but at the end of the day, you're not going to be on your phone and thinking, "damn, If only I had dual core, I can do this much better"

besides, htc sense is much much better (and smoother) than motoblur anyway with better support in the community if you ever want to put a custom rom on it or root it.

Well, I think something happened. It is clear that Gingerbread was basically done, when they put the big gingerbread cookie on the lawn. You don't really do that, unless the project is milestone delivered. Someone or something put the brakes on the Gingerbread time line.

It all respects, Android domination has out paced even the most optimistic forecasts from just a year ago with the original Droid release. The manufacturers and phone companies are all on board.

Is Google laying low, so as not to blow out all of the other tablet showings? Are they delaying Gingerbread's general release, to not make the telco's look even worse, by showing 2.1/2.2 phones when gingerbread would be fully out (caused by Google's time line slip)?

Now this is really, really cool, I agree. But doesn't make it ChromeOS obsolete? Especially with the Notebook/Netbook dock. I'd take this over a cOS device any day.

If (when?) I do root, I'd probably get rid of Blur or Sense -- I'm too much of a fan of stock.

And, yeah, I don't think I would miss the processing power of a dual-core CPU, but I was thinking about the battery life it would potentially save. That's probably just hear-say for now, though.

well that's what I mean. Motorola has locked down the bootloader so it is much harder to get rid of Blur and load a custom ROM. Now it is finally possible with the Droid X but who knows with these newer devices.

That said, I do like moto's hardware better and I do still have concerns about the thunderbolt's battery life, but we won't know until it's officially released.

there were rumors a few weeks ago that there would be a big super bowl coming out for the tablet. so it looks like that could be true

I believe it's packing 32GBs onboard. Thinking about it, No way is that gonna drop at $400. On contract maybe, but still. Feb is good news if it happens. That means devs get their hands on honeycomb next month!

yeah there is almost no way that thing is going to be 400 bucks. i guess i'll be content as long as they match the ipad pricing

I use a [free] third party app from the market. I try to use it sparingly. Hopefully I don't get charged outta nowhere. :/
 
The arc looks stunning. Sony make some sexyback hardware.

But oh Sony...just as your looking like your getting your arse into gear you post nonsense like that. Sony's android team need to be fired. All of them. Keep the hardware guys though.

I bet XDA guys end up putting Honeycomb on the X10. Lol.

right now you do, lots of hope that google voice gets updated to allow sip calling. After my initial wow dual core excitement settled, i dont know if i can give up my "nexus" phone for a locked down carrier phone, especially on ATT where they disable non market apps. Definitely probably not a day 1 purchase until XDA roots it and fixes it
 
Add me to the list of people who will grab the XOOM if there's a wi-fi only version. I can just tether it to my Droid X if I'm not around a wi-fi hotspot.
